nice place, but there are many bunkbeds on very litle space. It felt very close and we dident sleep very well. People who stayed there was very noisy at night. The rules are very strickt, you cannot bring water with you when you sleep. The area is very nice, the best we found in tokyo.

I stayed at RetroMetro for three nights with my girlfriend and found the experience to be pleasant. The hostel is very quiet (there were only six other people in the whole building, apart from the two of us) which is lovely, as it means you'll probably find yourself becoming closer to your dorm mates than you usually would anywhere else.... This was my second stay in Retrometro. This time, I also stayed for 2 nights. Yes, it was great the first time. That's reason why I came back. This is lovely hostel with everything you need in a hostel. However, I did not feel the staff as friendly as my first stay. Even I felt cold. Maybe, that was because... More

We stayed here for two nights. The location is good, near Asakusa Temple area , and the facilities are clean as well. However, the staffs we met were not that friendly;I thought they were quite strict to guests if guests didn't absolutely follow whole rules they set, and that made me feel very pressured. I'll find the other place... More

This place is quite close both tawaramachi and asakusa train stations. Walked to sensoji and skytree from the hostel as well. Great location. The staff are really friendly and the whole place feels really cozy. There was also enough privacy in the dorm. I really enjoyed my stay here. However, if you are staying with a parent or elderly, you... More

Retrometro Backpackers was my first experience at hostels, and also my first place in Tokyo. Was really easy to find, and the girls at front desk was very kind. I felt very comfortable and safe at Taito. It's close to subway and train stations, and have nice and beautiful old downtown. I was very impressed with the beauty. The price... More

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
