we stayed at this hotel so many times, during our trip to Japan. what I like about this hotel is first location, close to Ueno both Hibiya & Ginza line, and a bit walk to JR Ueno & Keisei line. So travel from Narita to this hotel is very cheap, just take Keisei line abotu 1,xxx yen. Lawson convenient store...

First time in Tokyo and it took me a lot of thinking and planning to decide which area to stay. Tokyo is big and has many different districts with various hotels. Eventually I chose this hotel and I'll explain you why. I stayed in a single style western room with priv bath/toilet. Let us begin with the most important aspects:...

I booked this hotel at the last minute as I had a couple of nights in Tokyo before flying out. I was very happy with it overall, as it is clean, good value, and is in a good location for getting around and to the airport. It was slightly tricky for me to find initially, but one of the approach...

Checked in to this hotel in December 2011 for 2 nights. Location: Near JR Ueno station. Behind the station, you will find Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo and Tokyo National Museum just to name a few. Located diagonally to the hotel is a hospital and Lawson convenience store is adjacent to the hotel. Nearby, you will find Ameyoko, a market that...

Small hotel within a short walk from the Ueno train station (use the 2nd floor overpass from the station and stay to the right). As many already notede, the rooms are small. I checked a few other hotels in the area and their rooms were about the same size for a similar price. Anyhow the bed wais fairly large but...

Ive stayed here multiple times and this hotel fits the bill perfectly for a perfect base in Tokyo. New Izu is a small hotel with personal service by very friendly staff. The rooms have all conveniences ie. TV, hairdryer, kettle, bathrobe, slippers etc and with coin operated washing machine and a convenience store next to the hotel it pretty much...

New Izu Hotel has a great location right near the Ueno Station. It has easy access to the trains heading to the different parts of the city, and the Ueno line links directly to the airport and the snowfields which cuts down on transfers. Ueno itself has a great market area, and a wonderful park with a zoo and museums....

I've been in Tokyo some 10 or 11 times and New Izu Hotel is some kind of a second home for me! The staff is very kind, always helpful and considerate. Location is very convenient since it's just 5 minutes away form Ueno Station in which you will stop directly from Narita Airport via Keisei Liner and you can easily...

This was our first accommodation in Japan, very cheap for us student travellors, stayed 6 nights with 3 friends (2 rooms of 2). Very neat and organised, this place doesn't have fantastic English, but definitely enough to get by and they were very helpful whenever we needed anything. The rooms were tiny, but we only really slept in them as...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
