Detailed Reviews
I was perfectly happy with my stay at this hotel. I stayed for 19 days, so I had a good amount of time to fully assess it! I got the room at a very reasonable rate considering its central location in Tokyo, and for the quality of stay I received. This is by no means a glamorous, luxury hotel, but for the price you will probably be paying, you get EXCELLENT quality and value for money in my opinion! My overall impression was fantastic and I will definitely use this hotel again for any stays in Tokyo.
Starting with the significantly smaller negatives, the only points which I would want to see improved were: 1) no kettle in my hotel room but I probably could have had one if I had asked 2) my hairdryer seemed a bit dodgy, the plug heated up when I used it and that worried me a little! 3) Most importantly, the internet service was quite poor. There was a new password every day which was fine, and there seemed to be a lot of wifi network options to join within the hotel, but I could never connect using my laptop in my room, only a little bit on my phone. If wifi is extremely important to you (bearing in mind it is almost impossible to find free wifi anywhere in Japan) then this hotel may not be such a good option, although I think that reception might have been better in the lobby? I really think it would be in the interests of the hotel to improve their wifi bearing this in mind! 4) no view, but this is Tokyo, where buildings are rammed up against each other, so good views from windows are far and few between! If you spend your days out and about exploring Tokyo you won't have any need for a view from your room! The lack of view actually led to my room being very quiet, I think!
Otherwise, everything was great. The bed was clean and comfortable, the room was small but if you expect anything else you probably shouldn't be visiting Japan! The TV worked well, there was also a working mini fridge. The water was hot (and yes the bath was Japanese style - small and rectangular, but again this is standard in Japan - when in Rome! Leave your preconceptions about what size a hotel room/bath should be in your home country! There is no point in complaining about the size of these things in Japan, where everything is much smaller!) and bearing in mind the hotel was in Ueno, my room was perfectly quiet at night. The staff were friendly too! The housekeeping staff were fantastic, always working hard and always saying hello. The reception staff also made an effort to speak English even when I spoke Japanese to them, and there was always someone around to help (even to lift my suitcase down the short flight of stairs at the front of the hotel as I was getting quite heavily pregnant when I stayed - oh yes, this hotel isn't step free for any disabled visitors, there is a small flight of stairs at the entrance, maybe 5 or 6 steps). The area was quiet and safe even late at night (some parts of Ueno, south-west of the Keisei station, are quite unsavoury, but the hotel was right on the other side in a quieter, less lively area so I felt perfectly safe as a lone, female traveller! Most parts of Ueno are totally fine and family/tourist-friendly!).
Best of all, the hotel was very close to the station, and if you take the underground route there is a 100% stepfree route from both the Keisei station (which goes to and from Narita airport) and Ueno station. It takes a little while to get used to the underground route, but if you leave the Keisei station, and follow signs for Ueno station and the Hibiya line, then head for exits 2 and 3 at the main station (the lift you want it somewhere between the two exits so you don't need to follow all the way to these exits), and start to follow signs for Lost Property, you should see a lift down a short passage, halfway along a corridor where the lost property office is. Sorry, these instructions are not very clear but if you do manage to find the lift it is perfect as you are brought up very close to the end of the road that the hotel is on and it cuts out having to go outside and battle the crowds or go up and down the steps on the huge overhead walkway with your cases!

Stayed here twice during our trip to Tokyo. We were a family of five and our room had two single beds plus three futon which could be closed off by sliding doors. Stafff were very helpful and polite. There is a restaurant downstairs and bar. Lift only goes to the 6th floor and our rooms were on the 7th so you need to carry your bags up one floor. Rooms were serviced each day with clean towels and pjs were provided along with shampoo conditioner and body wash. Bathroom is very small. My only disappointment was the room had a smoking smell. The hotel is located within a four minute walk from Ueno station and Ueno Park. Lots of restaurants and shops close by. There is an overhead walkway or underground tunnel to get to the station. The station has a great supermarket and bakery. There is a family mart in the same street as the hotel.

Two months ago, I stayed on & off here over 15 days during a month of travels in Japan. Upon reflection, my deep respect for the staff & management grows. A manager/owner taught me how to to use Skpe to reach my wife. In the evening, this manager wears kimono while attending the restaurant. When I misplaced my notebook recharger, the desk staff immediately lent me a spare, When I left for an interim week of travel to Kanezawa & Kyoto, staff kept my 2 large & heavy bags in a secured room. Later, they lent me a bag scale for distributing weight among boxes being mailed to the USA & lent a cart for rolling the boxes to a neighborhood post office. They even offered tape (that great Japanese packing tape) for binding the boxes, but I had already imposed mightily & purchased the tape at a nearby store. I cannot thank them sufficiently for their thoughtfulness.
There are two breakfast options & I tried both. The Japanese option (at $10) includes many delicious dishes; the miso soup is arguably the best I've had in Japan. It was served at a very quiet bar. At night, this Japanese bar was recommended to me, as well. There is also a separate Western-style cafe & bar called Pronto. Remember "Pronto" when first arriving because its signage is more evident in English than the hotel's signage. Pronto serves a light breakfast-- salad, Texas toast, boiled egg (or a replacement), yogurt & drink (coffee, for me). It appears to be gratis for hotel guests after securing a ticket at the hotel front desk each morning. Because I extended my booking while at the hotel, the clariity of automatically receiving a free basic breakfast at Pronto is not clear to me. I'd recommend contacting the hotel if this breakfast is important to you.
There are two nearby convenience stores for quick groceries, a snack or drink--
a 7-Eleven & a Lawsons.
Windows actually open (in the two rooms where I stayed), which helped for drying laundry & enjoying the chattering sound (when I chose) of walkers on the street.
Cheerful management & desk staff, Western & Japanese-style restaurant staff, & room attendants make staying at the very conveniently located Ueno Terminal Hotel a confidently relaxing pleasure

+1
Old-fashioned, dirty and small room. The door was really damaged inside. Some doors in some other rooms were difficult to open, and that caused neighbours to produce lots of noise at the time they wanted to come into the room.
Staff mood was depending on who was there, but nobody could speak a word in english. You could find people who did not care about who you are and people who were really aggressive when they wanted you to pay.
The room they gave us was beside a wall, and that's what we saw through the window. No reallocation was possible (so they said) and we had to stay there 7 days with no sunlight. It was a cave.
Wifi is in all the hotel, but I had to spend some minutes in the corridors because the signal was not powerful enough to pass the door. Besides, it works with passwords that expire every 24 hours, and it's different for each device you want to connect. So, I had to ask for 3 passwords every night. The number of connections of their service is limited, so if many people in the hotel is simultaenously connected, you have to wait for a slot to be free.
It's located 15 minutes away from the Ueno main station. The fact is that it's only 5 minutes away, but the streets have no name and it's really complicated to go there if you get no help from some local people. Stairs and pedestrian overpasses will make it complicated to get to the door the first time. Worse if you carry luggage.
Cleaning was not daily, since the last day I found a watermelon seed that had to fall the second day we were there. Bathroom was big enough for you to put your shampoo, but you had to take it out if you wanted to have a shower. It's EXTREMELY small. I've been in several hotels in Japan and this is definetly the worst.
The room stank to tobacco, and we requested it to be non-smoking. The bed cover (bedspread) had cigarrette burns.
The laundry service was expensive. No closet in the room, so our stuff had to remain in the cases, and they had to be in a corner bothering our movements. Not a hotel for more than 2 days.
I'll never NEVER repeat.

I have mixed emotions about this hotel. The price is good, the location is very convenient, the staff is attentive, but the room wasn't nice. Directions: the hotel is in an alley, not a street. Exit the Asakusa exit, walk along the left, past the homeless, Family Market, cross the street to Fedex, cross the street again. Keep walking straight, past an alley. In the alley that has a banner sign that says something is on the 1st Floor, look down the alley. If you see a blue Sankyo sign in the distance, you are in the right alley. The hotel is on the right, just before the Sankyo.
My room had no view, just another building, but I'm sure other rooms have a view of something. The room had a musty odor until I turned on the a/c. I think people sneak pets into the rooms, as I had difficulties breathing. Note: on my way to this hotel, I did walk into another hotel for directions and that hotel looked pretty nice, but it was small and probably wasn't on the internet. I plan to stay in Ueno/Asakusa again, so hope I get a better hotel next time. I don't know why Travelocity charges 9 dollars a day for taxes and fees on this budget hotel. Other fees in Kumamoto were 3 dollars a day.

Our family spent 5 nights in Ueno Terminal hotel about two weeks ago. We had two twin rooms. The rooms were very clean and everything in good shape , and there was sufficiently room, but a closet or a drawer would have been nice to have. The bathrooms were ok, small but contained everything that was necessary, even shampoos, toothbrushes, and hairbrushes. We had orderred two non-smoking rooms, but as we arrived the hotel was so full that only one of the rooms was a non-smoking one. The receptionist told that the other room was deodorized well, and as we stepped in, it really seemed ok, but by the night the deodorizing had lost its effect and we felt the stinky smell and uncomfort in our eyes. Fortunately the next day we could have our luggage moved to a non-smoking room for the rest of our stay. The personnel at the reception was very helpful and everyone spoke sufficient English. To all of our our questions they had an answer and an appropriate map to give within no time. I.e. the nearest coin laundry, direction to different places, schedule and price of the Keisei-train to the Narita airport... As we leaved on a rainy morning the elderly gentleman even gave us umbrellas as we had packed ours to the suitcases.
As we stayed 5 nights we had a free breakfast in the cafe Pronto by the hotel. The cafe seemed to be quite popular amongst many salarymen by their way to work. The "western style" breakfast could be chosen from three set options. Ours contained toast, salad, two bits of sausage, tiny cup of youghurt, small piece of fruit and coffee. Ok, and probably quite trendy, but not very special. A non-smoking area is located upstairs.
The location of the hotel is really good, 3 minutes walk from the Ueno station, just as close to the Ueno park and museum area. Also there is a reasonable price shopping area by the station, and short walk to the direct train connection to the airport. In spite of the location the rooms were surprisingly quiet, at nights there wasn´t any traffic noise at all, nor was there noise from the other rooms. I believe this hotel is as good choice as many other hotels in the area, Nothing truly special but definetely nothing to complain.

A good budget hotel. Room are comfortable and clean. Staff were helpful (but may not speak much English) and friendly. The breakfast was nice with some traditional Japanese breakfast. The restaurant-bar serves delicious matcha cake. The hotel is walking distance to the Ueno Train Station and very convenient. Hotel is also walking distance to the night market and there are halal restaurant/cafe at the night market stretch of streets.

This unassuming hotel is within walking distance (about 10 mins) from the two main train stations, i.e. Ueno Station (JR station) which connects to the monorail to Haneda Airport and the Keisei Ueno Station which connects directly to the Narita Airport. The hotel’s staff are all friendly and helpful and able to communicate in English, some are better than others. Rooms are small but clean with good shower system. The restaurant cum bar, Pronto is connected to the hotel and serves great desserts and there is also a Japanese restaurant, Suisha Hoten, at Basement 1, serving traditional Japanese food. The hotel is also walking distance to many famous tourist spots of Ueno, e.g. the National Museum of Nature & Science, the Ueno Park , Royal Museum and the Zoo. The Hotel about 20 mins walk to Ameyoko Market which opens from 10am to around 9.30/10.00pm. You can buy a lot of stuff here from food to toys. There are also a couple of Halal eateries there for Muslim visitors.

We have just completed our stay at the Ueno Terminal Hotel and were extremely pleased. The room was spacious, clean and provided all toiletries. The staff was fantastic - friendly, helpful, English speaking. The location was perfect - practically connects to the Ueno Terminal, a 5-minute walk to Ueno Park (which is a must-do), and central to all other neighborhoods. The on-site restaurants were wonderful - I especially recommend the Japanese breakfast.
