We really enjoyed our stay at Asakusa Ryokan. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We stayed here for 2 weeks and couldn't have asked for more. This ryokan is in a great location, close to the subway and in a lovely neighbourhood. Some people may consider the rooms to be small but for us it was perfect. Separate...

This is the second time I have stayed at this hostel. The staff are super friendly and helpful. It is in a very good location, quiet area and very close to public transport, restaurants and shops. Small but comfortable rooms. Perfect to sleep and leave your bags while out and about exploring Tokyo. Very clean and quiet. They will even...

Been coming here for over a decade now. Always pleasant, quiet and welcoming. It's like home away from home. The wifi seems to have been upgraded recently. Asakusa is a great base for exploring Tokyo. The Tsukuba and Ginza lines are a few minutes walk from the hotel and take you directly to Akihabara, Ueno, Tokyo station, Shibuya etc. The...

Last week was the 5th time we travelled to Tokyo since 2009. And every time we go and stay at Toukaisou. Why? Because it feels like home. We had a ryokan-style room with a bathroom (shower+bath) equipped with big bottles of shower gel and conditionner, and toilets separated from the bathroom. The staff is really helpful and lovely - most...

Good green tea and tea set. Location: convenient within 5 minutes walk of eateries and Asakusa and about 5 -10 minutes of various stations nearby. Skytree, Ueno and akihabara within a...

Perfect location (Asakusa), close to Tawaramachi subway station. Nice single room for a good price, with private bathroom and toilet. They provide hot water and green tea-bags. There is also a yukata. Clean and comfortable room. You sleep on a good mattress on a tatami. You have a good blanket and pillow. There is also a hairdryer and big mirror....

I didn't expect it to be very nice, but I actually didn't realize it was just a youth hostel and not a ryokan in any way. There is not much privacy since every room opens up to the common area (and anyone in there turns and stares at you each time you walk out). It is kind of rough around...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
