Great staff, very friendly and helpful. Rooms basic, but clean and secure. Toilet a little cramped, but that is part of the true Japanese experience. Close to shops and transport. Quiet location and close to Sensoji temple complex.

It's in a pretty good location. Not far from Sensoji Temple Asakusa at all and about 5mins walk to Tawaramachi station. There are convenient stores nearby and DonQuijote is 3mins walk. Staffs are very helpful and friendly - and most importantly they speak very good English. I stayed here for two nights. I'm a girl traveling alone and this place...

This ryokan is clean and is situated at a great location. You get value for money. We arrived early and unfortunately we good not book an early check in without booking the night before. So we stored our luggage and checked in later. The rooms are very small, but clean and everything that you need is there. Including a good...

Fantastic location, a few minutes walk from Sensoji Temple, Kappabashi shopping street, lots of places to eat, konbini and 24-hour value dept store and grocery store a block away. Staff spoke English very well and were very helpful. We had Japanese style private room -- was small but very efficiently laid out; very clean; had all amenities needed (towels, toothbrush,...

This hostel is close to the main attractions, conveniently located just a few minutes' walk from the Tawaramachi station. But it's not at the main tourist hub so we can really feel the Japanese neighbourhood here. There's also a 24/7 supermarket nearby with really nice lunchboxes and fruits so our late night craves are satisfied! As we stayed in both...

I loved this place, it is totally central (20 min to Akihabara on foot!), cheap but clean and cosy, staff is extremely friendly and helpful, there is free w-lan, soap, towels and hairdryer and air condition in the twin room. Asakusa is a very traditional part of Tokyo with many shrines, nice little restaurants and traditional Japanese shops. I can...

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
