In our past couple trips, we always stay at Ueno as it directly connected to Narita airport without further train/subway transfer. Furthermore, the Shinkansens to major destinations starts here that you, for sure, to get a seat without reservation.
Staffs are friendly as you expected in Japan. We had day ski trip and needed to leave hotel before breakfast hours, they prepared fresh bakery and coffee/tea outsides of breakfast area for early bird.
Not even mentions the shopping & dining options at Ameyoko and Ueno station.
The only downside is they won't keep your luggage overnight before or after check in. If you are going to have side trip from Tokyo and don't want to carry your luggage around, Guest 1 is not for you.
Hotel is using machine to handle payment. First you insert the card hotel provided, pay the amount using cash and you can go to your room with that. English version interface is available. If you want to pay the bill with credit card, you have to tell the staff to arrange as the machine does not seem to support oversea cards.
Room is small as expected, but the bed was nice and comfortable and extra stuffs like integrated humidifier and air purifier, coin-laundry were provided. Do not expect any views - as the hotel is located in an alley surrounded by buildings, which is normal as city hotels.
Just forget its breakfast - too few options with undesired taste and it is better to get a sandwich or Origiri in Lawson around the corner.
Excellent location in Ueno with an easy access from Narita Airport by using the Keisei Line ( I did use the ordinary train Limited Express and it was just great). Once at Ueno Station is really just very few steps away and very easy to find it. That is very useful for the following days to take the metro and visiting Tokyo. The area has hundreds of good and well priced restaurants. A lot of convenience stores such as 7 Eleven as well.
It is probably a new property , everything is shining brand new and extremely clean. The room was quite small but it had all the comfort and amenities you would expect in your hotel. True may be too small if you have more than 1 piece of luggage. The bathroom had a great shower and free toiletries were offered on a daily basis.
A small breakfast was served every morning downstairs in adjacent room by the reception area. Wi-fi worked really great while in the room much less in the ground floor. The staff speaks English and I had no communication problems at all.
The room is small (typical of most hotel in Japan) but comfortable and clean. The hotel faces a small street, so there's no noisy traffic even though I was at a room on the 3rd level and faces the road. Breakfast is served at the small cafeteria at lobby, though I did not utilise it as I was usually out and about before breakfast timing.
Hotel staff speaks fluent English so language is not an issue. They also offer you bottled drinks in return when you don't require housekeeping.
Ueno Station is one of the station where you can collect your Japan rail pass, so if the airport queue for Japan rail pass is too long (which it usually is, and queue is at least an hour long), you can consider collecting at Ueno station where the queue is much shorter.
Location - right opposite a chinese restaurant, Korean and Japanese restaurant. A 10 mins walk to the nearest 7-11 convenient shop and further down the road approx 15mins walk to huge local TAKEYA hypermarket building blocks where you can get all you want souvenier, drinks, fruits and many other local foods..
Reception speaks little english but very helpful and polite.
Breakfast was good enough. Staff very friendly and speaks good English. Close to the station. Can recommend.
