Visited for dinner early week, fairly quiet as expected. Decor is good, recently refurbished in a modern pub/shabby chic style. Just as you would expect from a large pub chain (Greene King). Service was slow but friendly. Food was very average, both had steaks - one was cooked perfectly, the other was under done and very, very tough, which for...

This is a beautiful building, and important location in Castle Cary. It is very average, and could be better. I wish it were. I have lived in Cary for a long time, and I would love it to be better. The service needs to be smarter , look better, more professional. This is a special place, step up to the...

Came to Castle Cary for a family holiday. We ate in the George 3 times, and every time it was fabulous. Food is brilliant and the chef likes to experiment a bit. Service can be a little slow, but that's a price worth paying to know the food is cooked from fresh. Not cheap, but I highly recommend.

This is a wonderful old Inn in a great position in town but it has been spoiled by an attempt to modernise it. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, lots of so called industrial lighting everywhere etc. and it just looks wrong and spoils the place. The food is generally good but the specials on the board are...

I have stayed here the past 4 weekends on business. I can't rate it highly enough, rooms are comfortable, food is very good and staff are accommodating. It's a sport friendly pub which shows free to view matches and has final score on tv. Locals are also friendly. Would go back.

I'm not from this area and booked without even knowing really where it was in relation to work. Wow what a find. Warm welcome, young gentleman asked to carry my bags ( hope it was the norm and not because I looked dishevelled and old! Lol ) Room very clean tidy ( I have a bath!!!!! Yay ) I have...

Very pleasant lady who served us and nothing was too much trouble. Most of the food was OK but I was disappointed with "buttered chicken". Was smothered in tomato so that was the predominant flavour, everything else fought to be identified. Reasonable price and did the job for an impromptu visit but doubt whether I would plan to go again.

Visited The George today for an impromptu roast with a friend. He had the roast beef and I had the nut roast. Both dishes came with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and a bowl of veg to share. All the trimmings were very tasty and the nut roast wasn't bad. It was very filling and unlike any nut roast I've...

Happened upon the charming George Hotel by accident while roaming aimlessly around the English countryside. There is a proper bar with a proper log fire and proper friendly locals. The interior has been modernised a bit but there is still enough of the original to be welcoming. The big win is the menu, which is excellent. However, we opted for...

The George is designated a 2 star hotel, but it is 5 star in welcome, warmth and atmosphere. The food is brilliant, the attention to detail and kindness great. I can highly recommend it after a four night stay. I shall definitely go again.
