Recently stayed here and must say cannot wait to return.Pam and Tom are amazing hosts, the rooms are clean, well presented and so comfortable I’d go as far to say it’s the best night sleep I have had in a long time. The house is beautiful and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery and wildlife. Would 100% recommend and would also like to recommend the tour they provide on their trike absolutely fabulous for seeing your surroundings and amazing views.

We stayed in the attic two bedroom suite, it was perfect for us and our two teenagers. The rooms are huge, clean, very comfortable and equipped with everything you could need. The farm is beautiful and the area is stunning. Our hosts were kind and friendly and went the extra mile, our eldest really appreciated the oat milk. The breakfasts were delicious and very very generous. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend.

My partner and I recently enjoyed a 3 night stay at Abbotshaw and had the most lovely time. The house is gorgeous and our room was clean, comfy and full of character. The en suite bathroom was enormous with a beautiful, luxurious bath. Breakfast was incredible!! The choice along with the friendly and attentive service from our hosts made us feel thoroughly spoilt (and full for a day of sight seeing). The location is stunning and ideal for exploring the border towns, Kielder and Hadrian's Wall. Lots of nature to be spotted too. Pam and Tom have run an exceptional place and I would recommend a visit- we didn't want to leave!

My family and I have just returned from Abbotshaw B&B. We can not fault the place . The owners Tom and Pam are attentive to your every need and have a great knowledge of the local area. Breakfast is amazing, every choice you can imagine , even Nutella pancakes for our son ! We stayed in the attic suite which is perfect for families consisting of two bedrooms and a bathroom with lovely large bath and also a separate shower. We were there to walk and cycle and were spoilt for choice of routes . The area is peaceful ,away from the hustle and bustle of life , with gorgeous scenery. I cannt recommend this b & b enough.

Our booking was cancelled at the last minute due to current hype over coronavirus. We were given details for alternative accommodation, however, we had budgeted for this one so an alternative at a much high rate wasn't an option. We had an event booked for Kielder Observatory which has now being effected. I'd planned this trip months in advance for my husband's suprise 40th Birthday present. We are very disappointed to say the least.

Response from Pam Akinson, Owner at Abbotshaw House - Farm B&B
Responded 15 Mar 2020
Dear Elvina, We are extremely disappointed in this review, we cancelled the booking due to my husbands underlying health conditions with the spread of coronovirus. As explained in the correspondence my husband is in the at risk group and also over 60, we did not feel it is appropriate to expose ourselves to this risk. Regarding alternative accommodation we contacted several options and gave you two alternatives; one hotel which was cheaper than ourselves and one with a higher rate. Again we are sorry that you did not get your first choice accommodation for your husband's birthday but no not think it is unreasonable to try and protect our family when we see the death toll in the rest of the world.

Pam and Tom made our stay feel like home from home...but better! Pam met us with a warm welcome and showed us to the amazing Reiver Suite, and immediately offered to make us a coffee. The bed is amazing; very large and soooo comfortable. Despite the miserable weather outside the very large room and bathroom were always warm. Chatting with Pam, she said she makes every effort to make her guests' stay the best she can, with the emphasis on the bed as well as the breakfast, and Pam achieves both in spades. The mattress, linen, quilt and pillows are all luxurious. In addition there are lots of extra touches; lovely bathrobes, fluffy towels, torches by the bed and lots, lots more. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. The bathroom is spacious and although the hot water takes a little while to reach the room; perfectly understandable in such a large house, the shower is powerful and there is lashings of hot water. Each morning we came down to a roaring log fire in the dining room. Breakfasts were fantastic. As many other reviews have mentioned, the 'overnight Aga porridge was delicious and the smiley face and brown sugar freckles brought a smile to my face. We visited Kielder Observatory on a windswept, rainy night and despite not being able to star gaze, had a very enjoyable and informative evening. A well worth visit. So many B & B's are let down by the quality of the beds, but this is definitely not the case at Abbotshaw. If you are looking for somewhere to stay in the Borders offering dark skies, peace, tranquility, quality and comfort I thoroughly recommend Abbotshaw House. Without doubt the best B & B we have stayed in. Thank you Pam and Tom for an amazing stay, we wish you both well.

Stayed for 3 nights. Lovely comfortable guesthouse. Very friendly owners. Room and ensuite very large. Great breakfast menu and able to mix to your own choice. Really good size portions. Only thing I would change are the pillows - much too soft.

Lovely warm welcome with mug of tea, huge room, powerful shower to clean up after a ride, comfy bed. Warm, homely house set in a lovely quiet valley and nothing but the occasional call of owls and sheep in the night. Super for spotting stars too! Ideal!

We stayed in the Reiver Suite. We walked into the elegant lounge area with its dining area and beautiful Chippendale settee. (I must say that the picture posted here does not do it justice and should be removed by tripadvisor). Then we saw the bed! Better than any 4 poster. It was like being on honeymoon! We had a further suprise when we went down two steps into a beautiful bathroom with a big bath all decorated around with Magnolias on cornflower blue wallpaper. Everything was spotlessly clean. I also loved the little touches. A torch on the bedside table so if a night time trip to the bathroom was needed there was no need to put lights on. Sewing kit, binoculars to study the beautiful views and the sheep in the next door field, as well as all the usual touches one expect from a 5 star establishment. In the morning we went down to the dining room were we were greeted with a warming fire coming the grand Victorian fireplace. We were greeted by the host and hostess and shown a sumptuous breakfast menu. There were four or five choices. I had the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, as much tea as l wanted, English or Scottish tea; a nice touch as we were literally on the border, Tom and Pam are down to earth friendly people. Nothing was to much for them. We really did feel like we had made new friends by the time we left. We will definitely be going back and recommending the place to all our friends.
