Sadly the Anchor has now closed. It will not reopen as a pub. A great loss to the village as the Forge Hammer is now the only pub open every day. The Jovial Colliers is open Thursday to Sunday only. The Royal Spring outside the village is open every day.

This is definitely the cleanest country pub I have ever been in. The staff are great and very friendly but the food let it down for me. I had a roast beef dinner which was not up to scratch while rest of the family chose meals from the menu which they all enjoyed. Would return but not for a meal.

I've stayed at The Anchor numerous times over the past three years or so both with my son and on my own when visiting to fish the local River Wye. I've always found it to be be friendly, clean, comfortable and recently had one of the best steaks I've ever had. The homemade pies have also got to be tried....

The Anchor is easily the best pub in Lydbrook. There is always one real ale on offer, rotated regularly. Bar food is available, and the restaurant has a more extensive menu. Accomodation is available in en suite rooms. The pub has a pretty garden in the middle of the beautiful Forest of Dean.

Lovely, clean and tidy bedroom, breakfast was very nice - the proprietor was a man of very few words - I had to ask for all the details of times of breakfast, when to pay etc. Perhaps he didn't want to put any pressure on us! Our son booked the room for us by phone and no deposit was required...

Alan was always very accomodating and always so friendly. The food was good. We came here quite a while ago and have to say the food is to the same...

We recently went to a private party at the Anchor. A hot and cold buffett was prepared by the Landlord, Alan. The food was excellent and honestly one of the best buffets I have had. Could not find fault with anything. The staff were welcoming, particularly Erja, the landlady and the facilities were very good. We did not stay there...

In my opinion easily the best pub in Lydbrook. Normally one real ale available, rotated so impossible to say what at any time. Very good food, cooked by the landlord. Closed Tuesdays. Lovely garden. Very friendly pub.

Advertised as real ales and homemade pies. Only Ale was off when I visited. Local couple in the bar having a conversation with the landlady; no effort to welcome me. Had 1 drink (lager) and left woithout eating. Not sure of their opening hours either. I went on a Thursday: they were closed at 12 noon but open when I...
