I was fortunate enough to arrange a short visit at the Prince John Resort. The natural environment of this resort is magical. The owner Ridwan is obliging, helpful and polite, as are the other staff. The food is tasty and satisfying. Great coral and snorkelling only metres from the beach front. It is worth the trek there and I would return.

I had the chance to stay and dive at Prince John's Dive Resort during a back to back live aboard trip to Indonesia. I spent 4 nights. The accommodations are somewhat rustic, but the bungalow was clean. There is no AC but the nights cooled off enough to stay comfortable. The camera room does have AC - so a good place to keep a dive camera and batteries/chargers. The staff is friendly. The diving was quite good. The house reef offers a lot of critters both for day and night diving, and a number of other sites are easily accessed via a short boat ride. The lead dive guide is excellent and the others varied from dive to dive. Meals were quite good, breakfast made to order, lunch a la carte and dinner buffet style. Overall the experience was a positive and pleasant one. My understanding is that management is relatively new and appear to be doing their best to keep a solid business going.

Great place and great snorkling! The new management was very accommodating and friendly. We'd heard rumors that things were not the same during the past year, like food and service, but this trip proved otherwise. The food was fresh and delicious. Garrit and his lovely wife were great hosts.

Nice place to chill out after/during a trip throughout Sulavesi. Perfect location. A beach with white sand, crystal clear blue water and corals 10 meters from the resort. You can also take a speed boat for a half-day trip. Very kind staff always ready to help and make guests happy. Very quiet and peaceful. Nice views from the rooms. The food is good. I had a masterclass on cooking Indonesian meals. They always ready to prepare what you prefer. A bit noisy on weekends when people from town coming for holidays, but it’s a way to socialize. No AC in the bungalows which is a bit difficult on sunny afternoon but still guarantees you enjoy the fresh natural air from the sea. I think the best place in this part of the island. We spent there 5 nights and wish to have more.

This was my third dive trip to Prince John in one year, being one of the easiest to reach diving spots in Indonesia. It is located just outside Donggala, which is just one hour away from the nearest airport in Palu. Arrived early morning after an overnight flight (my preferred way of traveling dive trips) and arrived at the resort at 8AM, just in time for coffee and light breakfast. Diving was always very flexible at Prince John, and I found out that I had 100% flexibility because unfortunately (or fortunately) we were the only guest that weekend. Immediately the Dive Master came to us to discuss the dive plan, I stated that I wanted 9 dives in 3 days of diving (the package was for 6 dives), no issues, and just get on to the dive plan, time, which spot and which guide. First day dive was a bit ordinary, just three spots around the resort itself, mostly for macros, but managed to find a Pygmy Seahorse on the first day. Second day of diving was a lot more exciting on the spots further away. Two drift dives (current was strong due to the time of the month), fantastic corals, large Napoleon Wrasse and some more nudibranch. On the third day, the Dive Master decided to offer us to go to the "Outer" dive spots, my first time ever. This means some spots on the edge of the bay where the resort is situated, facing the open Makassar Sea. About 40 minutes speed boat ride, and we were rewarded with the largest number soft corals I have ever seen in one dive spot! Beautiful. Ended the days of diving satisfied packed up the next day and being picked up at the time we expected to go back to the airport. Breakfast and dinner were not in the buffet manner as usual due to lack of other guests, but nevertheless quite good, especially the dinners (I am not fussy about food). What I am fussy about though, and as a note to the resort management, is air conditioning (well, the lack of it).I know that the resort is promoting itself as an 'eco' resort, no TV, just enough lighting etc. Fine. I have no quarrels about that. But I always found it was not not easy to try to sleep in the heat and humidity of Palu Bay. Well, probably the owner and management would put this into consideration :)

Staying at Prince John was an amazing experience. The Owner picked us up in his boat at the Coast Guard pier in Port Barton. The trip, which took 15 minutes, drive you directly to Paradise: an ashtoning beach with bambu sunbeds and palm trees with small cottages. He organizes  hopping islands directly from there which is very convenient and comfortable...including the best corals we've seen in Philipinnes! Also you can visit the nearby waterfalls (by a long walk have to say) or get a massage. The accomodation mixes cuteness and nature without luxuries, you feel like you are in a Robinson Crusoe book.  During the weekend John organized a special dinner at the beach with all the guests along a table, with typical food and surrounded by torches. The only drawback was that we ordered an extra red wine bottle, that was quite expensive and it was shared with the other guests without asking us for. Definetly, this is a highly recommendable place! Thanks for the experience John!

The place is awesome! Nice rooms, good food, lots of food, lots of street food in the vicinity, and always good service and community. The dive center is well managed and safe, the guides are nice. You can meet the manager everu now and then. Qute far from the airport but also from the city. Over all great place.

We stayed 4 nights in the Prince John. There are about 15 bungalows with a lot of space between so you have a lot of privacy and all have a beautiful view. We opted for a delux bungalow, just to have some more comfort (and hot water) after 5 weeks in Raja Ampat and Togian islands. Dinner and breakfast are included and is plenty and enough choice, including vegetarian options. And at 4 you get a nice coffee and afternoon snack. If you want, you just join other guests at the table. All the staff is just great, very friendly and efficient and there is a nice atmosphere. During our stay, Elmar and his wife were running the resort and they are great hosts and very informative. Playing games and music after dinner in the bar with the guests was always fun. Diving is very professional, good gear and very knowledgabale dive masters. There is enough to see just in front of the lodge so if you are not into a boat trip, you just walk into the sea and dive (or snorkel) in front of the lodge. Also 1 afternoon we rented a scooter from 1of the staff members and went around on the peninsula, which we really enjoyed. Around the Prince John is a small village, which attracts many local people for holidaying, especially in the weekend. To us it was just fun watching how the local people enjoy there holiday, maybe not the way many western people do, and it did not bother us at all. It can get a kind of crowded on the beaches around, but if you want to go away from it, Prince John organises boattrips in the weekend. To us it was a great place ending our holidays. I stayed in Prince John 22 years ago and always had good memories of it and although the area changed a lot, also this time I left with very good memories. Thank you very much Elmar and all other staff of Prince John, we will be back (and within 22 years). Nb the roosters start at 03.00 announcing its morning, the mosque at 04.00. If you are a light sleeper and you find these sounds annoying, bring some earplugs.

I'm amazed by the wonderful bungalows, the fantastic food, friendly stuff and well organized place and the beautyful fews of Prince John. But i had the feeling that the most tourists (mainly from germany) here, coming for diving only, do neighter explore the Indonesian live, their culture, nor much of what's goin on outside of this resortbarriers.I wished the management would support contact to the local people or give advices to attractions beside the diving. Beside the fantastic underwaterworld here is a lot to explore also on land. Don't miss it.It is an awesome area and outside of PJDR are almost no western tourists! But the finest commodation in the bay of Palu is this place.

We stayed six nights at Prince John and had a great time. Our daughter is a vegan and the awesome staff always made sure that there were much to choose from. Often she got a special sallad or special dish. When she got an ear problem we got some great help at the bar :-) The diving is very well organized and you get your own box for all your stuff. Some of us weren't that experienced, so we only did our diving at the inner circle. But we got to see crocodile fish, cuttle fish and a bunch of nudiebranches we had never seen. All in all a really nice stay.
