Lake view, relaxing at the terrace in hammocks and comfortable seats, possibility to have dinner (a must), good and varied breakfast, WiFi (though sometimes weak signal in the room), friendly, helpful and enthousiast staff, quiet location, nice setting, near El Castillo, Arenal Observatory Lodge (great hiking) and SkyTrek (canopy), pool for the hot days. If you have your own car:... More

Nepenthe is an ancient Greek word for a "drug of forgetfulness" and that's what this place does for you. Ryan and Rebecca are the couple that run this place and you veel right at home. The view is amazing. The rooms are big and clean. The food made by Rebecca is truly delicious and the music from Ryan is pleasant... More

When we arrived, it was dark and you couldn't see much, but you were certainly aware of the ROAD driving there. Be prepared for a bumpy ride. But in the morning, the sounds of the jungle greet you early which is very nice and it's cool with the windows open (keep the screens closed). The bungalows are quaint, nothing too... More

Just returned from our trip to Costa Rica and already missing Nepenthe. The view is out of this world, the pool and hot tub are perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring the area, and the cabins are perfect. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning to the sounds of the jungle. Ryan, Agustin, and Rebecca... More

Nepenthe is worth the drive up the hill. The view of the Laguna Arenal is breathtaking and almost outdoes the volcano itself. The rooms are comfortable and Augustin is very helpful at the front desk. Any time we needed transport or tours booked we only had to mention it at breakfast and he was on it. Close to the hot... More

This is a very special place in a gorgeous area. The views of the volcano and the lake are spectacular, and this area of Arenal is less touristy than Fortuna, and was quiet and peaceful. It is close to the ziplining which was scary good. The staff were wonderful, and the addition of the restaurant really made it a great... More

The best view in Costa Rica. Overlooking the Arenal volcano and the Laguna the Arenal. The newly build complex is a high-end B & B, with excellent service and very helpful staff. Here you get the little extra help and friendliness that makes your trip perfect. Augustin was very helpful and have to thank him again for the extra effort... More

The views from Nepenthe really are as nice as the pictures. Lake Arenal to the North and Arenal Volcano to the East are spectacular. It is remote, but the trip was not a difficult as some reviews make it seem as long as you take your time and have a 4wd. We even were even treated by a band of... More

We stayed here for 1 night and wish we could stay longer. This place is perfect for those looking for a quiet serene hideaway, away from the regular crowded touristy areas. Please do make sure and get here before sun down, as the roads are unpaved for a few miles and if you are used to driving on the US... More

My wife and I made our way to El Castillo @ Arenal Lake in CR for part of our Honeymoon. Nepenthe, a quaint but super functional B and B was one of the most amazing places we stayed in CR. Not only was the view great, but the Staff was first class. We had couple massages in the Spa, hung... More
