Detailed Reviews
This guesthouse is of a higher quality than many of the big name chains,we recently stayed here whilst meeting cousins that we hadn't seen for many years. The rooms were spacious, very clean and an abundance of towels in the bathroom with ample toiletries.
In the room there was a hairdryer, iron etc .The bed was a huge 4 poster which was comfortable, plenty of seating lots of lighting and more than enough teas and coffees.
The cooked breakfast was of a high standard with plenty of toast and cereals, and when we came back in the evening it was great to join in with the locals.
All in this was a very nice place to stay, and is a credit to the proprietors

We only noticed this place for food on the last night of our stay and it was great. Under the current Covid conditions there weren’t too many places in Aberporth to feed a family (lovely chip shop and pizza place) but they nailed it. Swift table service and really friendly staff. Both children (ticking time bombs) devoured their meals and my reluctant burger eating partner couldn’t speak highly enough of her chicken burger (with halloumi). I had a burger with bacon and cheese and it was lush. The staff were great and took the current guidelines seriously. If you’re in Aberporth it’s definitely worth a stroll up the hill. Looking forward to taking the kids to the mini arcade upstairs once all this blows over.

We booked online and as it was a dog friendly hotel we emailed them to let them know we had two pugs which we would be coming with us. We had an email back saying it was fine, but the dog friendly room was booked, however, we could still have the room but there would be a ÂŁ20.00 fee to clean the room after we left, payable in cash upon arrival. When we arrived at the "Hotel", there were a quite lot of people out the front drinking, it was very noisy. The interior was quiet full too, and social distancing rules were not being adhered to. This concerned me as I have been shielding since lockdown started due to my health. My wife checked us in and paid the ÂŁ20.00 and had no receipt from them for the money, obviously tax free. We were given a key to the room which was up very steep steps. The room was quite large and it looked OK. After a while, my wife was looking for any welcome pack in the room that tells you what there is in the area etc. However, when my wife opened the chest of draws the top draw was full of sweet wrappers, so obviously the last people to use the room, room 2, before us were tramps who need a lesson in cleanliness. My wife opened the draw below an in there was what appeared to be something brown similar to melted chocolate? We have no idea what it was! After finding this, I looked around the room further only to find orange pips and screwed up paper on the floor too.
We were going out to find a place to eat and we were going to let them know about the room but as the bar was so busy and social distancing was not being observed, we decided to leave it untill we checked out. We found a lovely pub, The Ship, just a short walk away, dog friendly, and observing social distancing, the food was wonderful and the staff were so friendly.
The next morning arrived and we went to check out but the place was locked up and no one was about.
I would have thought that in the current climate cleaning a room thoroughly before guests arrived was most important, we are told corona virus can live on surfaces for up to 72 hours but it was obvious to us this room was not cleaned thoroughly otherwise the draws would have been cleaned out.
My wife emailed the hotel to let them know it was not us that had left the draws in the state they were in but a previous customer. The reply she got back was poor to say the least, she was told they have " high standards of cleaning and we do have a new cleaner maybe no longer ", surely if the cleaner was new, work done by the cleaner would have been checked upon completion and it is not the cleaners fault they missed the mess but their supervisors if there ever was a"new cleaner". I would not recommend using this hotel to anyone, especially in the current climate.

Absolutely terrible place. Mid summer, yet cold and damp. Went for a meal expecting fantastic service, but it took ages, condsidering how few customers that were there on what should be a busy summers evening. Got to our table to find a menu that was quite literally minimal, only 5 dishes to choose from. Still, we decided to make the most of it and ordered our meals. I am no cook, but even i could have done better, everything on our plate tasted and looked microwaved! The chef must have gone to college to learn how many minutes he/she should cook it in a microwave! The bill came afterwards, and i almost died through shock, i thought, shall i pay for the meal, or buy a villa in the south of france!
If you want a decent meal/drink, go to you local shop, buy a ready meal and a bottle of wine and i swear, you will have a much better experience!
STEER WELL CLEAR!

Our 2nd night in Wales and we decided to try this restaurant on a Sunday. Wow. The loveliest service. We were made to feel welcome from the start. The food was beautiful. Well seasoned and cooked. Good value. It's not flash but it's what you want from a curry house. Would definitely recommend and we will return before we leave the area for sure.

We booked a table for 4 people with high expectations following the recent refurbishment of this pub. Although we all ordered the same Starter (garlic/Stilton mushrooms on toast), they all came out looking very different- some had obviously been microwaved longer than others! Two of us ordered the special for our mains - rib-eye steak (medium rare), and the other two ordered a steak pie with garlic mash and chicken in a Stilton sauce. Firstly, the waitress cleared away the plates while one of us was still finishing their starters. Then the mains came quickly, but only one very well done steak and two steak pies. The waitress told us they had run out of steak and claimed we had ordered two steak pies. The mash was very salty and the vegetables had no flavour.
Although it’s good to see the Morlan open again and looking fresh and clean, the bar staff and kitchen staff need to communicate better to improve the service. The kitchen staff need to improve the quality of the food and give the customer what they ask for. We will not be returning for food here./

Response from x23jeff, Owner at Morlan Guest House
Responded 10 Aug 2018
We have been open for a week and have been very lucky to take on an excellent chef with a wonderful reputation who is already making a very good name for himself here at the Morlan. We and many customers are happy with the quality of food that he produces and we also have excellent bar staff who take customer service very seriously, not everyone gets every thing right all of the time and we are no exception how ever at no point through out the evening did you ask to speak to anyone or complain,we take criticism very seriously when given but fail to see how we can improve on something when no criticism is given when the question is everything alright with your food is asked to receive a yes thank you and empty plates. The till receipt clearly shows you only paid for one steak not two and the waitress came across to you and showed you the food receipt, you then said you would have the steak and ale pie and proceeded to eat all of it.Your review says you ordered 5 meals yet there was only 4 of you . It is you that got it wrong as your own review proves this. After this you went up to the bar and asked for a refund for a steak you had not paid for confusing the bar staff into thinking that we had run out and therefore needed to refund you as you had not eaten when infact you had,you had 4 meals which were all eaten and only paid for 3 meaning you left our establishment without paying for one of your meals that you ate. We intend to carry on giving excellent customer service and producing excellent quality food to our customers who pay for their ordered food and thank all the many people who have supported us already with the bar restaurant and the rooms and look forward to carrying on providing those customers with good food drink and customer service.
