20 yrs since I last visited this little hotel, so slightly anxious as had no idea what was awaiting us. Well I had no need to worry - what a gem of a place! A very warm welcome on a very wet and windy evening from the helpful staff, lovely clean, cosy room with Molton Brown toiletries, and after a...

We'll hold you to that, 20 years is far too long! Thank you for reviewing, and for such glowing praise too! Our staff will be delighted, particularly Jack, the Chef - his menus are certainly creating a lot of interest amongst our guests. See you back for more soon we hope.

We had a wonderful one night stay at TSH. Our room was spotlessly clean with a very well appointed bathroom. The spa bath is terrific. We enjoyed a delicious meal in the restaurant and both agreed that having eaten in many Lake District restaurants that the quality of the food at TSH must make it one of the best around....

What a lovely review, thank you so much! I've passed your kind comments on to all the staff, who work hard to ensure all our guests enjoy their stay. In particular, our Chef Jack Bradley has been with us just 3 months and his food is certainly outstanding, so this is great feedback thanks. Hopefully see you again soon for...

We chose this hotel for its convenient location to Penrith and its reputation for good food, as we particularly wanted to spend an evening 'dining in' to celebrate a family birthday. It fitted the bill perfectly. On arrival we were able to gather in a cosy sitting room (and take over a corner with my bag of presents and a...

I new it would be good as was booked by friends, but what a treat when we got there. A warm welcome and made to feel at home straight away. Very accommodating, waiting for more of our party to arrive for dinner due to Friday traffic. Dinner and breakfast were fantatsic. Fine dining without the fuss, with a superb attention...

Fantastic room (ours was a superior suite) dinner out of this world, great service and prettiest breakfast I have ever had (pictured, and tasty too). We would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

We have just spent 3 nights at TSCH and dont think we ve ever eaten better anywhere. Service was excellent and the manager and waiting staff friendly and helpful. Its a lovely old hotel tastefully decorated to a high standard. We slept like logs because the village is so quiet.

Thank you so much for your kind words, glad you enjoyed your stay, especially the food and 'friendly' glasses of wine! Temple Sowerby has been so peaceful since the bypass opened in 2007 and rush now involves nothing worse than a flock of sheep being shepherded down the main road! Come back soon...

Marie and I were heading to Carlisle, and needed to be no more than 45 minutes away from our overnight stop. Decided to give the Temple Sowerby House Hotel a go. This is the sort of place where you forget what is going on in the world, and just relax! We had a lovely front room overlooking the village, that...

What a delightful review! I think you've summed up the essence of what we strive for here at TSH - comfortable rooms, great food, interesting wines and relaxation! We've passed on your comments to the chef, Dan and also to our assistant Tilly, who was your waitress that evening. Very good of you to take the time to write and...

This hotel was the third we were to visit during a trip through Rutland, County Durham and Cumbria. On arrival we were met by a polite but cool reception from the proprietor and after a brief exchange of pleasantries we were whisked away through two elegantly furnished lounges, past reception, a cosy bar, across a corner of the dining room...

WOW, what a stinker….and also, for the most part, either false or totally unfair! I can only refer to the previous review below entitled ‘Dog friendly overnight stop’, written by a couple who stayed in the same room and ate from the same menu just 2 days prior! We well remember these people and to say that they were determined...
