Dalhousie Castle Hotel and Aqueous Spa is a magnificent 13th century fortress set within acres of wooded parkland on the picturesque banks of the River Esk. From the moment you arrive at Dalhousie Castle a warm Scottish welcome awaits. Whether relaxing in the the Spa, gathering in the library next to the open fire, dining in the vaulted 2 Rosette winning dungeon restaurant, or retiring to your chambers, you will always feel as welcome as the 'Laird'. Brimming with over 700 years of history, Dalhousie Castle is the kind of place that could have been plucked from the pages of a fairy-tale. But make no mistake, this ancient castle with its complex arrangement of turrets and towers is very much the real McCoy. Once the seat of the Ramsay Clan, the castle boasts an illustrious guest list that includes King Edward I, Sir Walter Scott, Oliver Cromwell and Queen Victoria. Today the castle’s long tradition of hospitality continues and you can still be assured a royal welcome and the highest standards of food and service at this fine four-star hotel. Please note that despite our best efforts it is has not been possible to install a lift in the castle. Instead we invite you to start discovering the castle from the moment you arrive, taking in every nook and cranny and peeking behind unlocked doors and to satisfy your curiosity on the way to your bedchamber.

Fabulous location and of huge historical interest. The food was excellent but we had to wait an hour after the booked time before we were even seated. Presumably there had been a kitchen problem but no-one told us what. Room was excellent and very comfortable

Wonderful atmosphere, great walking paths and attentive staff! We enjoyed our 2 night stay very much. On our first day we took a taxi to Royal Brittanica, came back to the castle and explored the walking paths and had a superb dinner in the dungeon! We also enjoyed an excellent dinner in the Orangery. It was nice to have wonderful dining options with no driving involved. Our room was lovely….comfy beds and modern bathroom. Only one thing to be aware of is the noise of the hall doors closing off and on as other guests arrived and departed. For some reason the sound really carried. Was really only a problem if you’re a light sleeper…did not bother my husband. I wore earplugs the second night and slept great.

When visiting Scotland for my 30th birthday it was really important to me that we stayed in a castle! Dalhousie Castle ticked off every single box. It was like stepping back in time yet provided the comforts of a modern hotel. Beautiful building which was well maintained. Exploring the grounds followed by a lovely dinner in the dungeon and night cap in the study. It was truly magical and I can't wait to come back!

I stayed two nights at Dalhousie and had a lovely experience. The staff was excellent and my Alexander suite was beautiful. The grounds are breathtaking and there are many pathways to stroll. With one exception the food in the dungeon was very good and beautifully presented. My friends and I signed up for the falconry and archery . Do this if you go!!! Georgie, the handler and the archery coach was so knowledgeable and also very funny! We had a spectacular time with her and learned so much! I do recommend a stay at Dalhousie Castle!

A beautiful castle in a beautiful location. Stunning grounds, perfect for relaxation, with amazingly friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant food was devine, breakfast was lovely. Rooms could do with a refresh, but well presented and incredibly comfortable. Only downside was that their EV charger was broken and it's provided by a company that offers no support. I wouldn't recommend relying on it if you need to charge.

We found this location by searching "Best Castles To Stay in Scotland" on the Internet. It was benchmarked with The Glenapp Castle, Inverlochy Castle, Fife Arms Hotel, and The Balmoral Hotel, all of which we stayed at and were on the search list. The Dalhousie Castle web site is well done and one of the reasons why we selected it. We thought it was a five star accommodation location based on the search and their webs site but it is only a four star location (per the castle manager). We stayed two nights there. We had some concerns with the location in the beginning but I will say the management responded brilliantly. Kudos to Kim, the castle manager! We arrived and the reception was very good. However, the receptionist started to show us where our room was but did not take us there as have been done at the other locations we stayed at. The castle itself has many different hallways. There is no elevator in the castle. We eventually found our room. The only issue with the room (room # 40 - Sir Alexander) was the bathroom. The sink overlooked the back of the castle, and since there was no frosted glass or curtains, you were totally exposed to whoever was in the back. When we arrived, someone was flying a drone around the castle and then some people were in the back with a telephoto cameras taking pictures. That felt uncomfortable. A section of the bathroom window pane was cracked. There were limited toiletries and we had to ask for lotion. They normally do not provide lotion as we had that in our previous accommodations. They made an exception in our case. We only had one washcloth in the room. We spent one night in the room and addressed it the following day with the castle manager, Kim. She immediately worked to correct the situation and moved us to a different room in the hotel (room # 22 - William Wallace). It was welcome upgrade to what we had before. Well done and thank you, Kim! The food quality was excellent in their restaurant, The Dungeon. You can look at pictures it on their web site. Loved the atmosphere! Service was very good there. Breakfast had two sittings - 8:45 am and 9:30 am. We chose the 9:30 am sitting. We were able to order a hot breakfast as well as select fruits, pastries, and drinks from their self-serve area. Since we did the later sitting, it seemed the staff did not ensure the food and drinks were kept full in the self-serve area. We felt a little rush as the staff started to spray down table tops near us.

We enjoyed our stay at the Castle. It was a great way to end our trip to Scotland. The staff goes out of the way to make sure that you feel welcome and comfortable. Our dining experience for dinner was awesome.

This is an amazing place to stay - can't recommend enough. Gorgeous old castle on beautiful grounds. We took advantage of the falconry experience as well. The dinner appeared to be shaping up also, in the atmospheric "dungeon." However, we were given a terrible table by the kitchen where my husband had to look at an unattractive sign and the servers walked noisily by constantly. The food was fine but we hated the dinner. So be careful
