After a long hike we decided to have a couple of drinks to relax and rest our feet. Although the bar was not yet fully open we were welcomed in with a warm service and allowed us to unwind after a long day of walking.

We stayed at Bell fir two nights in early October for two nights. Squirrel bedroom was lovely, cushions abd mugs with squirrels, a nice touch. Clean well equipped bathroom. All compact but excellent. The breakfast offered a good choice, the full English was very good and we were impressed with two muffind and eggs with the Eggs Benedict and Royale Alsoo enjoyed a pint if local ale in the bar which fekt very much like a well loved local. We didn't eat in the restaurant but it looked cisy and inviting.

Monday 5th September 2022, We drove up to Bardwell to the Six Bells Inn, which was to be our home for the next four nights. The Six Bells Inn is a perfect country escape and is set on the edge of the village green near the duck pond in the pretty village of Bardwell. Dating from the late 15th century, the Six Bells Inn was enlarged in the 19th century and again in the 20th century. The pub offers a character full blend of old and new and is totally surrounded by countryside. The Six Bells was used in the filming of several episodes of the famous TV series ‘Dad’s Army’. It was used for the following episodes – ‘Ring Dem Bells’, ‘Wake Up Walmington’ and ‘All Is Safely Gathered Inn’ The Old Barn and Stables (now the bedrooms), were also used in the series. We were greeted by Paul, the owner of the Six Bells Inn and given a warm welcome and given the keys to our rooms. Jackie’s Room No 1 and Our Room No 5 were situated in the stable rooms which surrounded a pretty flower be-decked courtyard. Ours was a large room with a four poster bed with white cotton sheets and duvet with gold cushions and gold bed runner. The decor of the room was a soft cream and white. The room had cream and beige curtains. The furniture was warm pine wood with a lovely dressing table and seating area, which was in keeping with the lovely old world decor of the inn and had a large flat screen television. Our shower room was done out in black, grey and white with modern style bathroom fittings. It had a walk in shower cubicle with lots of lovely hot water and white fluffy towels and complimentary toiletries. Mark and I unpacked and settled in. We then rested on the bed and then we then later dressed for dinner. We then met Jackie and went to dinner. We were then served to a nice meal in ’The Six Bells Restaurant’; we had a nice cosy table for three which overlooked the garden. The décor of the restaurant was old world with dark timber beams and white walls with pictures and mirrors. The wooden tables were all laid with white tablecloths, shiny cutlery and there were flowers on every table with lovely comfortable red upholstered chairs. Our waitress for the evening was Polly who was very friendly and very professional in everything that she did, and nothing was too much for her. Jackie, my husband and I were given menus to peruse and there was a small but very nice selection of meals to choose from. My husband drank IPA bitter, Jackie had a lemon and lime drink and I drank chilled Aspinalls Cider with our meals, the food was delicious. Jackie, my husband and I for our starters had the flat garlic mushrooms with a cheese and garlic crumb top and served with a nice fresh side salad, which were delicious. The starters were just the right size to get the palate started and was a good start to our meal. Jackie for her main course had scampi served with salad and chips and served with a tartare sauce dip. For his main course my husband and the chicken in a port and stilton sauce and served with mashed potato and a nice selection of vegetables, which he said was delicious. For my main course I had the rack of pork ribs with a sticky BBQ sauce served with onion rings, chips and a nice fresh crisp salad with a lovely dressing on it. The pork ribs just melted in the mouth and were delicious. We all had desserts; Jackie had the apple crumble served with ice cream. My husband also had the apple crumble but he had his served with creamy custard. I had the sticky toffee pudding served with pouring cream, which was really delicious. Jackie at this point decided that she had, had enough and she wanted to go back to her room and go to bed. My husband and I both then moved into the bar lounge with its lovely comfortable red leather chairs and let our dinner go down. We sat talking to Polly and Paul till quite late in the evening. Afterwards, we went back to our room where sat talking and then we curled up in our lovely comfortable four poster bed like a pair of sleepy kittens and had a good night’s sleep. Tuesday 6th September 2022 – My husband and I awoke to a lovely warm humid and sunny day. I had a nice hot shower and then we both dressed and went across the courtyard to the Inn for our breakfast, where we met Jackie. We were greeted by Rung (Paul’s beautiful Thai wife) and seated in ‘The Breakfast Room’ which overlooked the pretty flower be-decked courtyard. Rung told us what was on the breakfast menu, and we made our choices. Jackie had orange juice followed by bacon and mushroom toasted sandwich. My husband had a full English breakfast of Bacon, runny poached egg, sausage, grilled tomato, flat mushroom, baked beans and brown toast and butter. I had apple juice followed by bacon and egg toasted sandwich. The food was served piping hot and was very tasty and set us up for the day. We ate here every night, and the food and hospitality were wonderful. We would recommend staying here if you are in the area and want a peaceful retreat from the world.…

We booked here for a couple of days over the Bank Holiday. The Inn is stunning, set in beautiful gardens surrounded by farmland in the pretty village of Bardwell. The accommodation is converted stables in the grounds. The rooms were lovely, comfortable, clean, good comfy bed and quality linen, with a nice en-suite. The usual tea, coffee, toiletries and towels were provided. Outside the rooms was a lovely seating area to enjoy the sunshine and a drink. Breakfast was good, a nice full English with tea, coffee, toast etc, cooked well with quality ingredients. We dined in the Inn on one night, the wait was quite long, but was worth it, food was yummy and service was good. Will definitely be back as the whole place was so chilled and relaxing. Definitely recommend.

We booked a 4 night stay and wanted somewhere that was dog friendly. We found the Six bells on the Internet and it seemed to fit the bill. We had some reservations, as it was nearly 200 miles away. We had no need to worry. When we arrived, we were greeted very warmly and check in was really straightforward. We used The Six bells for breakfast and decided to have our evening meals there too. All of the food was excellent and freshly cooked. Every staff member was friendly, helpful and pleasant. We also bought wine while we were there and we were pleasantly surprised how fairly priced it was. We would have absolutely no hesitation booking to stay here again and we will definitely be returning. I stayed here weds 30/03/22 for 1 night for a family member who was graduating from RAF Honington. I arrived around 4pm. No problem parking or checking in. The room was a double with ensuite (Room 1) it had everything you would expect.. Kettle, tea, coffee in abundance, TV, desk, info sheet, bed was fine. En suite was fine shower, sink, toilet the usual. Room was warm Nice village.. I went for a run round the village.. Friendly people. Went to eat in the bar by the fire.. It was quiet in the bar not noisy or rowdy. The food... I had a burger, salad, chips.. Lemon meringue sundae (all very nice) 2pints of Old Speakled hen.. £25. I also ordered a bacon sandwich for takeaway breakfast (0730) the next morning (included in room price) I checked at breakfast with no issues. RAF Honington is 10mins away by car. Staff very nice /helpful. Couldn't fault the place really.…

Found this place on Booking , we wanted somewhere to stay overnight as visiting family, situated right out the way in a beautiful location, peaceful setting, car park , little outside area to sit and relax , lovely warm welcome when you arrive, bar and restaurant area clean and cosy, breakfast lovely, hot and fresh, nothing too much for them if you want anything, rooms cosy nice and warm (heating left on day/night) shower works well, rooms clean , comfortable and has tea and coffee facilities, would definitely use this place again.

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was fantastic. The staff were all so friendly and accommodating. The food was tasty and plentiful. The room was perfect so all in all, an amazing time was had plus, it was dog friendly too which was great as we'd brought our bulldog puppy Bobby who was loved by staff and locals alike.

We stayed here for the one night but this was long enought to see what a lovely place it is . The room was spotless and very comfortable and the food was amazing . Set in a beautiful village with lovely walks and a windmill . Some of the accomidation is outside motel style it was lovely to come back in from the weather to a lovely warm room .

This is a lovely traditional inn with a small selection of rooms surrounded by Suffolk countryside on the edge of the village. The staff were very attentive during check in taking us to the room and explained about breakfast times. The room was clean and a good size the only point I would raise that there is a step in to the shower and the tray is thin plastic (safe) but feels off putting when you step in as it flexes. The evening food is reasonably priced and very good. Breakfast is very good but I would prefer to have a selection card to avoid confusion and allows you to make a simple selection. The hotel is a good place to stay to visit Suffolk and the owners/staff are very helpful
