I spent a week at Villa Padierna Thermas on the recommendation of Wellbeing Escapes who put together a fabulous package for me. This gorgeous elegant hotel is located in a pretty and quiet Spanish village in the hills behind Malaga and was built to house Spanish royals who wanted to take advantage of the mineral waters of the spa. Meals...

I spent a weekend with my wife in August, to detox and recover a little bit from our holidays with our gorgeous but exhausting kids :-) And truly, we couldn’t have chosen a better place to do so, with its wonderful spa and all. The hotel is located in a quiet typical southern Spain white village, boasting cool nights (it...

Upfront, the reception areas and hallways smell like sulfur. This might come as a shock to some people, but the well informed traveller should not mind since it originates in the thermal springs. The hotel is one of the best I ever stayed. The exhibited art/ paintings are very tasteful and fit. This is very rare for hotels. The rooms...

Absolutely loved it! My friend and I stayed for a long weekend, as it's slightly out of season we practically had the whole place to ourselves. When we booked we upgradded to use the spa ficilities twice a day - definitely worth dpiing if you get offered to. We did not have any of the additional treatments and just stuck...

We went here as part of out honeymoon and we enjoyed every minute of it. The spa was amazing and clean and we always came floating out. Exquisite (but pricey) treatments too. The staff at the spa, the restuarant and the management are so wonderful and, from what I saw with other guests and ourselves, were always eager to accomodate...

We booked this hotel at the last minute. It seemed to fit the bill as far as what we were looking for in a relaxing holiday. We were not disappointed. The hotel welcomes you as soon as you walk through the door. Wonderful public rooms and places to sit. Our dining experience was mixed as ultimately the hotel promotes good...

Stayed here for 3 nights at the end of September. The hotel was lovely and the staff helpful and courteous. Big airy rooms, lots of areas to take yourself off to and have your own space. The terraces at the top have an outdoor (unheated) pool and lovely views of the surrounding hills. The Spa is wonderful, with some great...

If you are looking for bustling activity, don't come here. It's a place of quiet relaxation, of peaceful breakfasts, super-luxurious rooms and extremely attentive staff. The sleepy village of Carratraca never really wakes up but it's a lovely little village with friendly residents and quaint tapas bars. Note: the hotel does not have a bar. Healthy and leisurely spa activities...

I have just returned from a week at the Villa Padierna after booking a detox programme through Wellbeing Escapes. The hotel is in a sleepy little town up in the hills so there are almost no distractions. I was offered an upgrade to my room as my original room was too hot. The rooms are truly beautiful offering 5 star...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Villa Padierna Thermas Hotel will be regarded as the finest retreat experience of Holistic Healing in Europe. With a fine tuned combination of thermal bath treatments, chromo therapy, aromtherapy and organic cuisine. This historical spa retreat proposes three main and distinct healing programs to attract today's experienced spa aficionados: Balance, Relaxation and Detoxification. The hotel is only 45 minutes from Malaga International airport which receives all the major international carriers from Europe. Major US cities connect via Madrid or Barcelona. The town of Carratraca is situated in the northern part of the Guadalhorce Valley, between Ardales and Álora at an altitude of 540 metres right in the heart of the Sierra Blanquilla. The small and quaint village of Carratraca has been known as the Diamond of Malaga for its sulfur natural spring water famous since Roman times. Villa Padierna Thermas Hotel is set in an historic boutique building now completely restored and traces its roots to the early 1800's when the extraordinary healing powers of the sulfur waters and mountain springs surrounding the tiny village became almost legendary in their reputation. The healthful effects of the springs were discovered early on by the Romans, and centuries later by the Moorish settlers.A guesthouse was built between 1830 and 1832 to host a visit of King Fernando VII of Spain. Word soon spread of the therapeutic effects of the baths and mineral spring waters, and members of Europe's aristocracy quickly made Carratraca theri personal retreat. The Thermas was at the height of fashionable travel in the 19th century when it attracted such famous visitors as Lord Byron, Rainer Maria Rilke and Empress Marie Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III among others. Now stunningly refurbished, keeping the historical beauty of this neo-classical building, guests can have a great experience for the first time in a historical setting. A warm welcome in the cozy lobby of the Hotel, or if weather allows, in the Andalusian Patio. ... more   less
