From the moment I arrived, I was positively struck by the friendliness and welcome of all the staff. They made our hotel experience special and unique by also showing attention to detail. Clean room and breathtaking view. The comforts for accessing the sea are a plus. Thank you!

The hotel is located on a hill a few hundred meters from Porto Santo Stefano in a quiet position. The structure is dated but clean both in the common areas and in the room. It has a small swimming pool and a beautiful terrace on the top floor. The accommodation consists of a large living room with kitchen, bedroom and bathroom with bathtub. There is also a large balcony with a beautiful view that extends from the bay below to the Giannella tombolo. The presence of the kitchen with non-working appliances is incomprehensible. Excellent and plentiful breakfast (sweet and savory) with quality cakes. The staff both in the dining room and on the floors were very kind and friendly. Professional staff at reception

Hotel in beautiful location overlooking the sea. Surrounded by greenery and with private parking (no small thing in Porto Santo Stefano). We found hospitality and friendliness 'in all the staff, especially in Antonella beautiful Salerno and Elly an Albanian with the typical attitudes of a smart and nice Neapolitan who allowed us to take advantage of the room until our scheduled departure in the afternoon and offered free sun loungers and umbrella in the charming pier on the sea incorporated into the structure. Thanks from Titti and Ciro a Roman and a Neapolitan on holiday at the Argentario

Upon our arrival the swimming pool was not usable due to the leaves that had dirtied the water during the night with the wind, so they explain to us, in reality there was no hurricane that caused everything, it is not clear why it was not there are attendants who can fix it in a short time, even the sunbeds around the pool are in a non-use condition as they are mostly dirty with guano. The pier of the structure (for a fee) is truly splendid but at around 4.30pm the sun disappears behind the hill and is no longer usable and the swimming pool would be essential at this time as it is still sunny and enjoyable but unfortunately as already written it is in indecent conditions and not sanitized. The move of the double room with a splendid sea view to the second floor without a surcharge is commendable and they agreed to this to perhaps remedy the lack of pool service. It's a pity that the TV (with Sky) is positioned in the room opposite the double room, thus not allowing it to be fully used and that the double bed has two single mattresses pushed together. The bathroom is a little dated and the part in front of the terrace is dirty with bird guano complete with nests and chicks between the wooden beams but the view of the sea is truly splendid. Breakfast not at all unforgettable with annoying music coming from two different channels simultaneously. I point this out to the waiter who kindly excludes one. We didn't try the restaurant as we had time to go to an early dinner at the port not having had the opportunity to spend the afternoon in the swimming pool which was inaccessible as explained, a shame because apart from this serious shortcoming, with greater attention to detail the structure could offer a lot more than we used, we therefore preferred other accommodation for the following days of the holiday, paying attention to respecting the availability of the services offered in the booking, this place seemed to be definitively closed for management rather than being open for the season.

Then we stayed in this hotel x 2 days. We had booked a sea view suite , which was basically a room consisting of a double bedroom and a living room with a sofa bed , plus the ones with the very low mattress , where my children slept .
The hotel is nice xwhich is in a crazy location.
The “suite” that suite was not , it was really dirty , full of dust , bathroom encrusted by limestone , we had with us our dog who slipped under the bed and came out full of dust .
Mattress without mattress cover or topper , huge pillow covers and no closure .
The pier on the sea is very nice and well run by Paola, but on Sunday we ate on the pier ordering lunch and they brought us a cold pasta that even dogs would not eat. Breakfast, with little choice and poor service, we waited 10 min for the waiter to prepare the table previously used by other people.
Too bad!!! But it's not a 4-star hotel!

The relaxing stay planned in this hotel was unfortunately disappointing, mainly due to hygiene issues. The cleanliness of the structure does not reflect the standards of a 4 star.
The sheets were replaced on the sixth day of our stay, only after our complaint.
The terrace, although huge, and the two deckchairs present there were always dirty from pigeon droppings and therefore not very usable.
The breakfast offer is also disappointing and embarrassing, as it absolutely does not meet the criteria of a 4-star hotel because it is sparse and based on poor quality raw materials and probably frozen bakery products.
Reaching the town on foot is not advisable because there is a very busy stretch of road, as well as dangerous, as it has no pavement.
I also recommend, when making a reservation, to always have a written confirmation to avoid running into unpleasant surprises when requesting the balance: fortunately I had taken a screenshot of the cost on booking.
After all these negative sides, I still want to point out that when you request intervention from the staff it is always immediate.
The structure has a nice parking area and a fabulous rooftop view, which however are not enough to raise the prices of this now defunct hotel.
In conclusion, the hotel needs a general renovation, or a re-evaluation of the stars.
Paying 250 euros per night I would expect much more…
I will never go back there again!!!

I stayed in this facility for 3 days for my girlfriend's birthday, with whom I made a good impression:

Booked a park view suite through the agency. The "suite" is called such only because it has two separate spaces (bedroom and small living room).
The park view is actually a parking view, you have to keep the curtains closed if you want a bit of privacy.

The bathroom is not what they show in the photos on the site, in reality it is unwatchable. Very serious.

A suite with a white shower curtain attached with a plastic rod... we laughed a lot at this, then we saw that the curtain at the end was yellow and we didn't laugh anymore. (Photo)

There was a hair that wasn't ours upon arrival on the sink and it remained there until we left, we were taking it with us, we were fond of it.

To open the sliding French door on the terrace you need the help of the hulk, my girlfriend couldn't open it, laughter..

The bedside tables are two stools with a tablecloth on top, laughter.. (photo)

Poor and poor quality buffet breakfast.

I asked the receptionist how to get to the beach just below the hotel and he replied that he wasn't a local! Laughs here too...

The rest of the hotel staff are nice and I feel sorry for them working there.

In short, this hotel is saved only by the view which, unfortunately, I could only see when leaving the structure.

I stayed in the property for four days with friends. Upon arrival there was already confusion because the rooms had not yet been assigned and the problem was solved by organizing a lottery at the time. Once I got to the room I immediately noticed the lack of cleanliness: dust everywhere and in the bathroom limescale reigned supreme. When evening comes and I finally lie down on the bed, where among other things the top sheet was missing and had only been covered by a blanket, I can't sleep and spend the night sleepless because on my terrace I notice the presence of a split for the air conditioning from which a deafening noise came. The following morning I point out all this to the staff who proposes a room change. Upon our return to the hotel, in the afternoon, the reception staff gave me the keys to the same room assigned to me the day before. Faced with my disappointment, he justifies himself by saying that he was not informed of the change. I would say without words!!!!!!!!!! I was assigned what according to them was supposed to be a suite but which in reality wasn't a suite because it always consisted of a room and a bathroom. The hygienic conditions have remained unchanged compared to the previous room and therefore I must appreciate the consistency in the filth!!!!!!!!! Breakfast couldn't be defined as such because it was rather a rush for supplies because if you didn't show up at the buffet at 7.30 you risked finding the table completely devoid of everything.
Conclusion: the structure certainly cannot be a four star and therefore I strongly advise against it to anyone wishing to stay at the Argentario

Don’t stay in this hotel.

Looks like missed opportunity: good location with nice view on a sea & bay, spacious room with huge terrace. Recognizable brand.

After arrival at 2pm we were asked to wait 2 hours for the room, next day room was not cleaned without explanations.  Swimming pool is additionally paid 15 euro per person. Same for sea platform where you can rest on sunbeds. Rooms don’t have basics capabilities like mini bar or even glasses for water. Safes as well. Breakfast is a separate experience: very, very limited selection powered by slow service, which is unusual even for COVID times, because in other hotels we visited it didn’t happen.

Hotel is abandoned by its owners/management.  This is place to sleep, but certainly not to spend your time.

Response from Fabrizio Gabrielli, Direttore generale at Mercure Argentario Hotel Filippo II

Dear Navigator509167, thank you for finding time to write this review. I agree with you we had some troubles in letting you check-in in regular time: we were in delay and we can't hide the problems with housekeeping during your stay. Every seaside facility is on payment: this is clearly explained and indicated in any website and platforms, even if couldn't be nice in your opinion. Rooms have minibar, indeed, even if they're empty because of COVID restrictions, and bar in the reception is open 24h per day. As for breakfast, I don't agree with you about limited selection; I can accept service wasn't the fastest. Lastly, I'm sorry we didn't have the opportunity to discuss about the troubles you had during your stay personally. I remain at your complete disposal in case you would like to go further, Best Regards Fabrizio Gabrielli Hotel Manager

Might be a good hotel in an excellent location but greatly mismanaged. The food at the restaurant is terrible. For the breakfast you gave to wait in a queue 20 minutes while the waiter puts limited food on your plate. They clearly do not think about adding another guy to speed up. The selection at breakfast is terrible - the cheese is a shame for Italy as they save money and buy cheapest instead of Pecorino. The same with everything - not even boiled eggs, you have to ask and wait and wait. At dinner the local chef makes mediocre food. However the most terrible thing is the noise from air conditioners, which are gigantic machines and work like tractors. Forget about decent sleep and rest. Truly shameful for Mercury and the management because even one single guest stay would give them more than enough money to put silent devices.

Sorry I just saw your question. So my answer is probably coming way too late. Our room had a sea view but you have to ask for it. We got too rooms for our party of four. I suggest doing that if you can afford it.

We are in our 70s and found it was a pleasant 20 minute walk to the great restaurants in town--at night. Only a short distance on the main road where you needed to be careful
