We have stayed on business six times at this hotel over the last 6 years. It is clean, the rooms are nice, the staff pleasant. However it is in the middle of nowhere we arrived at 19.30 hrs to find they no longer do evening food. Breakfast used to start at 7.O'clock it is now at eight. We went to... More

We discovered this castle by coincidence when climbing in Calcena this September. It is an amazing place, a real castle, fully renovated and offering great value for money. It is a bit like staying in a museum. We loved the place and the view from any room is unbeatable. Highly recommend it!

Getting there was half the fun. Our GPS directed us to a back street which narrowed into a path occupied by an old Spanish man and a donkey. Neither looked too impressed. There was no way forward so with great difficulty a challenging reversing manoeuvre saw us back to a 'main' street and onwards towards the hill on which stood... More

After spending 20 mins trying to find the hotel getting more depressed about the town and where we might be staying we eventually found the large castle on the hill (Stupid us!!). We were pleasantly surprised by the architecture, friendly greeting and basic but comfortable rooms. The receptionist/barman/waiter/porter was extremely helpful especially when we got stuck in the lift! The... More

was looking for a romantic weekend, the castle has been totally revamped, most of the detail you would expect from a 13th century castle has gone. All very basic now - so what we made it. We did try to alter our stay, but the reception never had anybody that could speak English - frustraining but saying that, although we... More

We stayed here on a Travelzoo two night deal on the 23rd and 24th October 2011. The town Illueca, being (with a detour) about half way from our Spainiah property to the ferry Port of Santander. Another British couple staying here had flown into Barcelona Airport about a 3 hour drive away and hired a car. There's not a lot... More

We stayed here for 2 nights in September, travelling up from the coast. To be frank, I doubt very much if we'd have done this if it hadn't been a special offer. Glad we did as it allowed us to discover a very different bit of the country. Illueca itself is nothing special, the hotel being easily the most outstanding... More

I stayed here for one night with my girlfriend, hoping for a romantic experience in a beautiful castle. Unfortunately, despite the very beautiful exterior and lovely surrounding hills, the hotel itself is a real letdown. There were strange black stains on the bedsheets, the double bed was very small, the airconditioner didn´t work, the shower leaked badly and flooded the... More

First the good news. This is a hotel in a beautiful castle (XIV-XVII centuries) with great views over the village of Illueca and surrounding attractive hills of Zaragoza province. It has it´s own bar and restaurant which serves decent evening meals (with red wine from nearby Cariñena), and the half board price is a good deal. It lies about halfway... More

At first we were surprised to find out this hotel was not in the city of Zaragoza, but in the Spanish province of Zaragoza. Then our GPS led us up a narrow, steep, unpaved back road at night. But with our first view of the front of this former papal palace, lit up and overlooking the valley below, we loved... More
