The hotel is made up of two parts which reflect the history of the site:

In the 18th century, one of the wings was made up of 15 rooms. This old part housed a convent, which later became a Hôtel-Dieu, then a post house. Transformed into a hotel in the 1920s, this establishment continued to grow and flourish.

In 1960, the construction of an adjacent wing made it possible to increase its potential by 8 rooms, including 2 for PRM “people with reduced mobility”.

To this was added an apartment consisting of two bedrooms, a dining room and American kitchen, a bathroom and separate WC.

Located in the heart of Périgord Vert, less than an hour from Angoulême and Périgueux, our hotel offers spacious and comfortable rooms.

We stayed for 3 nights. Enjoyed dinner one evening and had breakfast each morning. Our room was close to elevator and we were located on 3rd floor. The evening meal and service was good. Not too formal. Breakfast was pre order and our selection was provided on trays each morning under current practice at the hotel. Staff were friendly. We used the parking free of charge at the rear of hotel and relatively secure for motorcycle and or car. There was a number of cats in and around the property. A touring motorcycle parked at the rear of the hotel was covered in cat fur etc as it was used by cats during its stay. This required cleaning to remove stains and fur. While eating dinner a cat parked itself on the top of high cupboard in the dining room. All a little distracting and somewhat interesting. The staff efficient and courteous. Perhaps those who do not favour cats may find them a possible distraction. The hotel is central and easily accessable. The hotel has its own
character.

What strikes you when you stay at the Grand Hotel in Nontron is that all of a sudden you feel as though you have travelled back in time tens of years but still you are browsing through your favourite newspaper website on WiFi. The hotel has belonged to the Pélisson family for many years and they keep up with the old world traditions of proper food, excellent restaurant food and service, reasonably warm (by which I mean nice and honest) welcome, and old, partially brought up to date building and rooms (no hook for shower head and old world central heating a bit short of expectations being the only drawbacks). I may have stayed at better hotels but I try to stop at this one whenever in the area as both it and the town of Nontron (in times of yore famous for its knife industry) continue to charm and attract me. Car park is accessed driving through an old world stagecoach stop style archway and there are proper fireplaces crackling with logs and embers, Limoges and Staffordshire crockery, little known but delicious, refined Bergerac red wines - it all adds up to a great experience. Highly recommended to 3 and 4 star hotel regulars who would not mind giving and old world, decent 2 star hotel a chance.

We were on a tour holiday and had not pre-booked . Arrived at about 4.00 pm and were greeted by a very efficient and friendly receptionist (excellent English was a bonus). After putting our car in the private car park at the rear of the hotel it was time for a drink on the veranda at the front to indulge in some people watching over a beer. Our dinner was served on the rear veranda overlooking the pool - the service was attentive and friendly and the food was excellent. The breakfast was plentiful but nothing outstanding.
Our stay was concluded with the efficient receptionist who wanted to make sure our bill was correct and concluded with some recommendations for places to visit in the area. Would certainly visit again.

We have dined at the Pelisson on many occasions, the service and the food are excellent, the dining room also cosy and pretty. We had to stay there to the first time and were disappointed with the rooms. They were I suppose typically French. The bed was comfortable, the curtains were colourful and expensive but the furniture was old and tatty , the carpet was dirty and stained. The bathroom in particular was a mish -mash of 50's fittings and assorted tiles. The welcome was abrupt and I didn't feel that they were bothered whether we were there or not. The breakfast was basic for the price compared to the dinners.
A great shame that the rooms have not been updated as a meal sitting around the pool on a hot night in summer is just a lovely experience here.

This hotel is really inadequate. The rooms were not kept clean. No WiFi. The front desk staff were unavailable when we arrived. Unfortunately we would not recommend Grand Pelisson. Learn from our mistake and book elsewhere.

Very disappointed by our stay at the Grand Pelisson. Poor service, uncleanly rooms, limited WiFi. Front desk were unhelpful. Unfortunately I would not recommend. The surrounding area is beautiful, in future we would certainly stay elsewhere.

We have visited the restaurant at the Pelisson ever summer for the past twelve years and found the food and service to be of excellent quality and reasonable value.

Visited again this year and ownership has changed and so has the quality. The place looked dull and some long serving staff have left. The menu prices have increased without showing increased quality or choice.

The Pelisson had sparkle but it has lost it now. I will need some convincing to return.

We stayed here for a few days back in 2015 and the restaurant was in a smaller room in the hotel. Our last two visits were in a much larger rather atmospheric free zone. The menu is typically perigordian with plenty of duck etc. Good service and wine list. Reasonable value for money and still the best place to eat in this rather dull town.

Many years ago, my late parents stumbled upon this hotel whilst seeking accommodation, away from the hurly-burly tourist magnet that is Brantome. Then, it was a family run affair having been handed down through the generations; the walls bedecked with sepia photographs of local troops mustering for the Franco-German War in the Square outside.
Over the years, the Grand Pelisson Hotel became part of our family's pilgrimage to South West France - excellent local food, warming log fires in the winter and dining on the shaded terrace in the hot summer months.
Two years ago, the ownership changed hands and some in my family thought the sky had fallen in. However, the new owner has worked hard to slowly update the hotel, both decore and menu and have done so in a way sensitive to the locals who still enjoy the treat of dining there on a Sunday. The fact that the locals DO still come is testimony to their success.
I know not if the log fires are lit in the winter, but I am pleased to report that one can still enjoy an excellent meal on the terrace. As to the quality of the rooms, I am unable to comment - I just love the place.

This hotel is old style typically French, the staff were very friendly and helpful but unobtrusive. The rooms are more than adequate and clean and we had a nice big room overlooking the square. The breakfast is basic but had everything we needed so I would recommend the hotel for its good location and nice staff.
