We hadn't pre booked anywhere to stay and after checking out a few of the cabin-esque guesthouses we ended up walking past here and thought we would just find out the price. It was 250,000 kip a night which worked out about £21.50 so not dramatically over our budget but definitely higher than we had planned to spend. But the swimming pool won us over and the air conned rooms! Shower was warm, beds reasonably comfy for Asia. We used the laundry service 1kg for 8,000 kip and it was done to a good standard. Breakfast was quite simple but we enjoyed it. Food otherwise wasnt as great but there are nicer places to have lunch and dinner on the island (check out Mama Tanon's and Kea's backpackers restaurant). Our big concern was the door to the room, it was quite easy to open without a key as we found out when we accidentally locked the key in the room. And the room had no safe so we ended up taking all our valuables everywhere with us which was a bit of a nuisance. Overall would reccomend this place. Oh and it has beautiful sunset views!

Perfect place to just chill around the pool and take in the lovely view of the Mekong River. Don Dhet is a little island with dust tracks and many bars and restaurants. It is aimed at pack packers and people who appreciate the laid back vibe....its not for those wanting a luxury, all inclusive holiday. We totally fell in love with the place, the lovely people and the amazing food. The breakfast at the hotel was really good with a great menu choice, and the rooms big, clean and comfortable. The swimming pool was much appreciated in the extremely hot weather! My husband, son and I are already planning a return visit as 2 days was just not enough!

We flew from Luang Prabang to Pakse where we had already reserved a transfer to Nakasong with Miss Vong. Miss Vong was substantially cheaper than any other quote we received and speaks fluent English (contact on Facebook - Vong Laotours). All went very smoothly. On arrival at the pier you turn right and walk about 50 metres to the ticket office and pay 15 000kip pp. The boat trip over is very smooth as you are on the Mekong, amazing to see all the little islands on the way. On arrival to Don Det we found it a little difficult to find the Hotel. Walk through the main street until you come to a laneway on the right. There is a pub on one corner and a minimart on the other that rents motorbikes. The hotel itself was fab. We paid USD $120 for a waterfront bungalow for 2 nights (paid on arrival, breakfast included). The room was lovely with views, from inside the room and the balcony setting, looking across the Mekong. Fascinating to watch river life with boats zipping around, fishermen tending their nets and kids playing in the river. The air conditioner was not the best but cool enough, particularly at night to allow for a good nights sleep (very hot and humid in late April/ May). There was a flat screen TV with 300 TV channels but very limited English channels, with a little sitting area. Plenty of room to store your luggage too. Both the owner Mr Mo and his wife speak English well and bend over backwards to assist with any questions or issues. The second day we hired a motorbike for 80 000kip (we have an international motor bike license which wasn’t required, however please be aware that unless you have the appropriate license your insurance will not cover you if you have an accident). We went to the falls which were very pretty even at this time of the year just before the wet season (35 000 kip). Tuk tuks are also available if you wish to visit. We saw people riding pushbikes that looked totally exhausted. There is a restaurant/hotel to the right as you cross the bridge which had a good range of food for lunch (turn right after you pass the locomotive instead of left which takes you to the falls). You can also drive to the tip of the island from where you can see across to Cambodia. Didn’t seem to be much more out there though but nice seeing the countryside on the way. Finally, back to the Hotel… the sunsets are unbelievable! Would I stay there again? Definitely at this time of year when I would find it hard to go without A/C, at other times there are some pretty cool river front bungalows scattered all over the place for a very reasonable price (Please note: similar review placed on booking.com).

It was extremely hot in Don det. Took this hotel, double standard room. About 25 dollars a night including breakfast. Both the fan and aircon were terrible. The toilet kept blocking up continuously after every flush. The shower toilet area became so slippery after showers it was dangerous. The breakfasts were cooked early and food was not kept hot. So fried eggs were covered in grease and cold. The pool is a fine swimming pool but a lot of umberrelas are broken or tied to the seats and you cannot move them for shade. One thing it has beautiful sunsets but very much overpriced and not good value. Would not return.

The perfect « package » to enjoy your trip in Don Det !! 👌🏼 A really nice hotel with a big swimming pool to chill all day long; one of the best place to see the famous sunset on 4000 islands. And good start for the day with a big and fresh breakfast on border of Mekong !!! A lovely place that we recommended !!! 😍 Grainesdebio ✌🏻
