#4 of 35 Specialty lodging in Don Det
The Last Resort is a travelling community located on the Sunset Side of Don Det, in the majestic Sipandon region of Laos. Nestled astride the Mekong river, The Last Resort is made up of a handful of beautiful teepees, constructed using only locally sourced materials, in keeping with the age old tradition of the island. More than just a guest house, The Last Resort attracts like minded individuals who are seeking a more natural and communal alternative to the other accommodation available on the island. The teepees are positioned serenely between working, traditional Laos gardens where herbs, fruits and vegetables are grown and used to prepare daily food, a nightly fire with surrounding benches for relaxing in the evening and a rock oven used to make fresh bread and sweet treats! In addition to regular cinema nights on our big screen on the beach, the Last Resort Beach Bar also hosts weekly parties and is open daily for food and drinks to be enjoyed whilst sunbathing and swimming in the Mekong river.

Treat yourself and stay in a teepee at The Last Resort. Growing up on Don Det, Ken is the man to speak to although there’s always a helping hand. Warning - you will stay longer than initially planned.

What a wonderful time we had at Last Resort - we loved the back-to-nature-feeling, it absolutely calms us down (shared river-shower, basic Tipis, no Wifi at the accomodation ...). We spent about 7 nights in the Tipis, extended and extended and still didn´t want to leave (but have to because our visa run out). Although it was pretty hot at the end of February, the wooden-tents remained pretty cool. We loved the relaxing atmosphere at the river (you can swim in it), the beach bar, the sundown, the gentle talks with other guests and the "staff" (the guys were more like friends). The party at friday, the movie nights and the yoga classes were our absolute highlights. We will definitely come back!! Thanks so much Martin and John!!

Stayed there two nights. The first night was great. But the second turned to be the worst. It rained pretty heavy. Two tipis stayed dry but 2 including ouers got totally wet. The owner was the whole night not around. So we had to help ourselves. At least we just had to pay one night.

We arrived at the last resort for a party that they were having on the beach, we loved it so much we came back first thing the next day to get ourselves a tipi, we intended on staying for two nights but ended up staying for 8 nights and found it really hard to leave. The tipis were very comfy and a lot bigger inside than I thought they would be. The tipis were nice and cool inside both during the day and at night. The party's on the Friday nights are brilliant. The film nights were great, sat on the the beach with a burger and a beer, it's definitely the best cinema I have been to. Breakfast on the beach was a great way to start the day, and the sunsets on the beach are the perfect way to wind down. Jon and Martin are great hosts, they made us feel right at home straight away and helped us if we needed anything. They also gave us some great tips and advice for traveling the rest of Laos. Sorry this review is soo late guys. Big love Sam and Brooke

If you cant walk or just want to sit under a tree, reading, drinking and talk to people anyway, this is the place to stay. (Even better if you can, i think)Also offers a natural swimming machine in the refreshing river. I guess i could have enjoyed the beach party more if i've been able to dance to the surprisingly good electronic music. Still, the people made up for it. Besides that you'll be offered a different, very good style of western food. If you dont care about all this, just watch the sunset! Just a great place to stay! Thanks to Martin and John and also the "staff" Miko, Flo, Lilo and Ash, for taking care of me. Hope to See you again.

We stayed for 3 nights in a teepee and it was pretty cool! You have to share a bathroom and there is a chill out area where everybody meets and talks with an familiar atmosphere. We really liked it there and wanted to stay longer but we had to go on with our travel because the time is limited. The stuff is super friendly! Nothing to complain about!!

Booked a room via facebook & from lonely planet saw it was south of the island. I walked 20 mins south to be told it's on a different road..back I go and not an easy walk in the mud...another 20 mins...signs or directions would have been useful. Arrived there to blaring music & 4 young Laos guys drinking at laughing when I was trying to say I had teepee booked. Not happy to stay there anyway being a girl on my own....had been warned by other expats on the island not to go there but wanted to check it out for myself. Lucky there was easygo hostel next door with great cabanas so worth the extra 20 second walk. The people I met on the boat coming across stayed more in the hub of things but I thought last resort sounded different but ended up feeling very disappointed.

Its the place I was looking for so long while travelling. Travelling can be exhausting after a while, and The Last Resort is just the perfect place to take a break, a long break, or even a longer break. There is nothing else like that on the Island and havent seen anything like this anywhere else I have been. The Teepees are awesom and very comfy, feels like a small home right away, the owner Jon is a lad and the atmosphere is amazing, people grow together to a nice community, felt like a family! Open air cinema nights, communal bbq´s, we even build a bamboo raft together and went down the Mekong. Best part, Jon and his Lao mate named Thai took us out to dive for snails in the Mekong, felt a bit funny the first time, but great experience and realy realy tasty, loved it, was hard to leave and impossible to NOT come back, so I did and will again! Thanks for everything

We stayed here for 2 weeks and loved it. The teepees are a great size and really clean. There is a communal area where they have film nights and you can chill out in the day. The price was really good and they even had adorable puppies. It is a 20 minute walk to the main part of the island but you can rent bikes from the guy across the road for a small price but I wouldn't recommend getting laundry or boat trips with him I'm sure you could find better elsewhere on the island. You have to walk a little way up to find anywhere to eat but the people that work there are friendly and are always happy to recommend places. I would definitely stay here again if I was in Don det.
