I did like the Tiki Lodge. Location is great, the staff is friendly and the dorm and bathrooms were always clean. It is a bit sad that reception opens so late in the mornings and I found it weird that our bathrooms were also the bathrooms of the restaurant's guests. They could watch us brushing our teeth while having their dinner. A bit strange. But if you don't mind that, the place is great. I would stay here again. You can also rent surf gear from them and they help you book tours.
I stayed at Tiki Lodge for around 3 weeks last year. My sister and I were first staying in one of the cabins, which is good if you want privacy, and to be surrounded by nature. After a few days, when the dorm was available for the two of us we moved there and I actually liked it better there. There were very nice and comfortable wooden bunk beds, which seemed to be larger than most hostel bunk beds. They all had an individual light, plug, small nightstand and a curtain for privacy. Plus, you have a locker in the dorm which is always good for keeping your most valuable things. I ended up staying two more weeks than we had first planned! Yann, the owner, is a super nice guy, who fluently speaks English, French and Spanish (probably even other languages too). He would be there most of the time -except at night- and always happy to help, provide anything we needed and make sure that everything runs smoothly. He would spend many hours a day fixing and re-building some of the common areas, which were highly improved after he had worked on them. So I assume that by now (a year later), everything is renewed and looking great. They also offer delicious food at the restaurant, although not the cheapest in town... Veggie burgers are delicious!!! By the time I left they were building a bar besides the restaurant, and it seemed like it would be a cool place too for snacks and drinks. I think the place was really good in terms of quality-price, but like most places there were some things that could be improved and I'm sure they must have already worked on it or they will soon. Since I was backpacking and travelling for a long time, I was looking for places where I could cook. Tiki Lodge has a kitchen, with -very- basic utensils. So you could cook and prep some basic meals, but it would many times be not so clean, there was really poor light in the kitchen, and it was just not a very nice area to hang around. But I'm sure it has been upgraded!!! For those looking for great WIFI all over the place, just keep in mind that most of the times you would only have access to Wifi in the main area, the restaurant, and it wasn't a super great connection. Anyway, it's quite hard to find good Wifi in town. It's just best to go out and enjoy the beautiful diving in Coiba and going Surfing and playa Arrimadero! :) I VERY MUCH RECOMMEND TIKI LODGE IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A NICE PLACE TO STAY, WHERE YOU'D FEEL LIKE HOME, AT A FAIR PRICE, AND WITH DELICIOUS FOOD AVAILABLE!…
Food was decent. Waited about 30min before we got approached, ordered and they brought half the drinks but not the rest. We weren’t impatient and kept playing cards but at some point requested for the rest of our drinks. Then we waited another hour or so for our food. By that time our drinks had been empty forever and the server didn’t ask for refills and it took so long we didn’t even bother. If you go, prepare to order quick, don’t be shy to request again and again to get your stuff and if you have young kids or hungry people in the group bring some snacks to calm their appetite. Otherwise our food was good and it’s pretty open and nice atmosphere !
We didn't stay here but I will say there hand-made nectars and ingredients in their cocktails were top-notch. We went back multiple nights for mojitos. The drinks take a while to make but they are worth it!
We were supposed to stay only for 2 nights and decided to extend. The hostel offers little bungalows and a very nice and clean dorm with AC. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay: nice mattress, curtains on both sides for privacy, a lamp, plug and a locker. Showers and bathroom always clean. A kitchen with all you need. He also has a restaurant with great food, highly recommended for their so tasty vegetarian hamburger!!! just YUMMY!! The owner, Yann, a French guy and real traveler, has been always helping us. He also rents surf boards! The place to stay in Santa Catalina with any doubt!
