After 7 weeks touring Australia & New Zealand the 2 bedroom villa called Blowfish 2 was just perfect.

We wanted 5 days of doing very little and that is what we got, the views are stunning, the interior lovely & the private pool was amazing. Due to the heat the wood in the outside areas are in need of a recoat but that didn't bother us.

The servicing of the villa was fantastic and the people so helpful, the mini bar was restocked free of charge which is a nice touch. The buggy was great fun & we really enjoyed zipping around the resort - which is huge so the buggy was a welcome addition.

We made use of the complimentary Kayaking and massage but never found the time for the bowling - too busy enjoying our pool!

For us the best food was in the Spice Restaurant, consistently great with a really good choice.

One of the best things here is the people, everyone is so welcoming and nothing was too much trouble.

I would definitely recommend staying here and we will return should we find ourselves in this area.

One thing to note - it really is seclusion & privacy with entertainment on a Saturday. If you're after a busy, late social experience this may not be for you, but if you are after perfect relaxation in a wonderful place then look no further. Plus only an hour ferry from Singapore.

My wife and two boys aged 7 and 2 have just returned from 8 wonderful nights at the Indra Maya Villas. Although not cheap we were prepared to pay a premium to have the luxury of our own private swimming pool so that our 2 year old son could have an afternoon sleep and our holiday was not interrupted. Although the pool (infinity pool) is right outside the villa, safety (for the 2 year old) was not an issue. The location was perfect - overlooking a beach (although no swimming allowed) and a couple of small islands. The small courtyard with the fountain is an interesting feature.

There is no bath tub. However, there is an outside sunken bath which the boys loved. Unfortunately there wasn't enough hot water to fill it competely for the adults.

The electric buggy was extremely useful as it was hot and humid and made the holiday that bit more interesting, especially for the kids. We travelled around the resort quite a lot (e.g the main pool at the Nirwana Resort which is fantastic, and the Mana Mana bech for watersports and the various restaurants).

The resort is child friendly; the staff were very friendly and helpful - it made a nice change.

We didn't have any real complaints - the television had poor reception (not a big issue, no washing machine, Hi-Fi or DVD player (VCD player only which isn't helpful if you live in England). Fortunately we had an i-pod with speakers.

Our overall impression was extremely positive and would certainly recommend the Indra Maya Villas to families and those looking for something special. Our only regret is that we live so far away, otherwise we would love to stay there more often.

As promised we returned to Indra Maya - the first time we have returned to a specific holiday destination. The villa was as good as before and the service at Mana Mana Beach Club was superb - the water sports were the main reason for our return and they did not disappoint. The staff are so helpful - my sons had a great time. Waterski-ing simply great and a highlight was a catamaran trip!

It seems that Nirwana Gardens, the connected resort is now predominantly welcoming guests from Korea and Japan, so much that there is now a dedicated outdoor restaurant for those cuisines which has replaced a western type venue. So it was a bit harder to feed the 12 year old and it has to be said that the quality and range of the buffet was not as good, from a western point of view. This time did the Mangrove swamp tour, which is very good.

The villa and its pool were spotless and immaculately but inobtrusively maintained throughout our stay. No washing machine yet, but the laundry service is relatively cheap and quick.

All in all still a wonderful place to visit, and yes we will go again in a couple of years. We particularly liked the fact that there were virtually no Brits at the villas or the hotel which really adds to the experience. In comparison Bangkok, which we also visited again on this trip was swarming with them which takes the edge of somewhat!

Very average resort, the Indra Maya pool villas are in need of an upgrade, furniture is quite dated, with chairs stained, damp smell in the rooms etc. Within Nirwana Gardens itself the bowling alley is defunct, run-down and delapitated. Slates falling off the roof.

We stayed at Indra Maya for just over a week. The villa was superb, the only thing missing was a washing machine. The golf buggy to get round the complex was absolutely necessary and a great favourite with the children (10 and 11) Water sports at Mana Mana, just down the road are superb. Jet ski's, banana boats and snorkelling, and more if you wanted them such as wind surfing, water ski's and such friendly staff. Food good, esp the buffet at the main Nirwana Gardens hotel. Plenty of entertainment available. The villas are not cheap but they are worth saving up for! We will be back!!

Our family of four - myself, husband and two teenagers aged 16 and 14 - stayed at the Indra Maya Villas for three nights early in July 2007. This was the "beach resort" part of our holiday to Singapore and we just loved it! After sight seeing in Singapore for four days, this relaxing and luxurious treat was very welcome.

We stayed in a three bedroom, sea view villa - it was right on the beachfront (although you can't swim in the ocean at this part of the resort due to sharp rocks being too close) with a private horizon pool. As the children and myself are keen swimmers this was heaven on a stick! I swam every morning before anyone else was awake in the warm air surrounded by tropical jungle - completely private, skinny dipping no problem! The high price (approx AU$880 incl taxes per night) was worth it for us - we prefer the space and privacy and didn't mind paying for it on this occasion. It was a special trip for us and staying at Indra Maya was the icing on the cake.

A golf bugy was included in the price as was breakfast. We actually preferred the Coffee Shop restaurant for breakfast rather than the open air cafe at Mayang Sari (even though its closer to Villa). But the food is nothing special at any of the resort restaurants (especially after being spoiled by the standard of the food in Singapore). The only place we really did all enjoy was the Kelong Restaurant - not far from the Villa out on the end of a jetty. (Just a note here - we did bring some long-life food items with us from Singapore for snacks etc as there is a full kitchen in the Villa which was also stocked with some drinks but no milk).

We were able to indulge in the facilities of the whole Nirwana Gardens Resort (which covers quite a few square hecatres) - so we also swam in the ocean both at the Mayang Sari and Beach Club area (where kids did snorkelling and jetski riding - at an extra cost), and used the lagoon pool at the main Nirwana Gardens Resort complete with swim up bar (my son and I enjoyed a fruit smoothie here late one afternoon!). My daughter and I used the Kedaton spa a couple of times - firstly for a full body massage (at spa prices cheaper than those in Singapore), and the next day at their hair salon in main Nirwana Garsdens area where I indulged in a cream hair scalp massage and treatment - just divine! My daughter had a mani and pedi.

I won't describe the villa too much here as you can see from the photos on the Nirwana Gardens Resort website how special they are.

The only downer to the Villa was an invasion of quite large black ants in one of the ensuites (each of the three bedrooms has a bathroom attached) on ouyr first night. We rang reception and a service man was there within 10 minutes with insect spray and did what he could. However the situation didn't improve and we called them again and two men came and also treated an area outside the villa. But for the rest of the three days this was a problem with many dead ants on the floor in that ensuite each day - even though they then did get cleaned up by housekeeping. I suppose it's the price you pay for being essentially smack bang in the middle of jungle. Other downer was a couple of issues with a toilet that got blocked - however, once again, the service people were there within 10 minutes of the call to fix the problem. I think we werre there at a fairly quiet time (also mid-week) so the service we received was first class.

All-in-all it was a beautiful three days and if you enjoy serenity then Indra Maya Villas are for you. Please don't hesitate to PM me if there are any other questions you may have.

We stayed at the Indra Maya Villas with two friends for five days in June 2007. We had a Hilltop-Villa with a fantastic view to the sea. Check-In takes place at Mayang Sari Beach Resort, but not at the regular check-in-desk, but in a special air-conditioned lounge only for Indra Maya guests.

The villa was spacious, two large bedrooms, the first one with regular shower and additional outdoor sunken bath/shower, the other one with regular bathroom/shower, a large living area with dining-table, a seperate kitchen and an extra bathroom with another shower.

As you enter the villa you first step into a small patio with a well, the sound of the dripping water is just music in your ears.

Directly behind the living area, and also reachable from both bedrooms, you will find the terrace with private pool. At some villas the pool is behind the building, at others you will find the pool at the side, directly next to the second bedroom. In every case there is a small pavillon - Bali-style - as well as garden furniture, two deckchairs and a sunshade.

Our pool was at the side of the building, which was okay. It was cleaned every day, the villa service came twice a day to take a look if everything is fine.

To make it short: the accomodation is perfect, privacy guaranteed, very luxurious, clean and safe.

There is a golf-cart provided, included in the rate, for sure. The cart is extremely helpful, for it was hot and humid and the premises of Nirwana Gardens Resort are very spacious.

We visited some resort-restaurants, especially the Thai restaurant 'Baan Aarya', which belongs to Indra Maya Villas can be highly recommended as well as the Kelong Seafood Restaurant. We had breakfast at the Spice Restaurant which belongs to the Mayang Sari Resort, friendly service and great food! Only the large 'Coffee-Shop-Restaurant' which belongs to the Nirwana Gardens main resort, was poor - in food and service.

We also had a spa treatment at the Kedaton Spa (Mayang Sari Resort) with a complementary upgrade to the garden pavillon. This is a must! Not cheap but absolutely worth it!

The staff in all parts of the resort is extremely polite, friendly and helpful.

To say it in a few words: we surely will return to Indra Maya someday, prices for accomodation are high, but absolutely worth it. The Villas are beautiful, the beaches are fantastic and the service is imperceptible but extremely attentive.

Just returned from a 4D3N trip with our family of 3 adults and 2 children (4 and 5) at a total cost of Rp 33,105,600 which averaged SGD1,141 per night. For this price we expected our holiday to deliver what was stated in our booking:

"Modern and luxurious, this villa with a private entrance features a private pool overlooking the sea. A flat-screen cable TV and DVD player are provided in the living room. The kitchen comes with a stove, toaster and tea/coffee-making facilities."

Where to begin?!

The air conditioning was old and rattled.

The kitchen was run down. (See pic). Cupboards with no handles. Ants galore. Rotting wood around the sink which meant water leaked all over the floor whenever the tap was turned on in the sink.

The pool was not out the front of the villa, rather it was on the side, which meant we couldn't observe the kids from the inside or patio. More worrisome though was discovering that the kids were diving down into the pool playing with the pool light that was hanging loose by a cord in the water of the pool!!! To their credit, when we complained at the reception desk it had already been fixed by housekeeping.

The outdoor bath/shower was not something we wanted to bath in. (See pic).

This was certainly NOT worth $1,100+ per night and it certainly was NOT modern, like was stated or suggested by the pictures in the website.

We have stayed at many places around Asia for this price and even less, and have not been disappointed until now.

The restaurants were average. The Thai was 'ok'. We were hoping the seafood restaurant would be better but it was just 'ok'. We had to ask 5 times for our steamed buns which arrived once we'd almost finished our meal. We opted to stay home the 3rd night and eat our own leftovers that we'd brought from Singapore. Breakfast each day was awful. We would have rathered eat toast at our villa but the kids are allowed to eat coco pops on holidays so we went to the buffet. They did accommodate my request for a poached egg every day though which saved me going without. They charged extra for coffee (latte).

The beach had jellyfish (we saw them washed up and someone was stung when we arrived). There weren't many people swimming as a result. We mostly went crab hunting with the kids or built sand castles. Each time we left the beach we had to scrape tar off our feet due to ships dumping oil into the sea!!! Yes, there was a sign to warn of this! (See pics)

The 'beach bar' was mostly closed. We were there before sunset one evening and it took ages to have our order filled: a pineapple juice (which had to be made inside) and 2 tiger beers poured from a can at SGD9 each.

All in all, I would not recommend this place at the price they charge as it is inappropriate. You are better off booking 2 rooms at the W on Sentosa in Singapore for the same price and you will not be disappointed with food, quality, comfort, service. In fact any hotel room in Singapore is better value. Such a shame as we work hard and enjoy our holidays and do t mind spending our hard earned cash on them. But we do mind when we spend that type of money and end up as severely disappointed as we are from this one.

The positives? The staff were friendly and our villa came with its own golf buggy which was convenient, with 2 kids and a mother who recently had surgery, to get around as the facilities were quite spread out.

Marketed as the best accommodation, the Indra Maya Pool villas seek to impress with its fusion of exotic Indonesia, Thai and Chinese architectural elements. However, I feel that the the villas are long past their prime and cannot be considered luxurious unless something is done to spruce them up to bring them back to their old glory.

The best thing about the villa, to me, is its location. Overlooking the north-western coast of Bintan Island, the 3-bedroom villa that I stayed in had dazzling views of the tranquil sea complete with a tiny island in the distance. The beautiful image alone is enough to capture one's heart and take one's breath away. The private pool gives one the opportunity to while one's time away, and have one's eyes feast on the natural scenery. It is something stressed-up individuals can do with, to rejuvenate the soul. For yoga practitioners, do remember to bring your mat and practise at the courtyard next to the pool. I did just that for two mornings facing the sea, and the experience was awesome! The best part of my stay, in fact.

Unfortunately, our villa does not seem to have direct access to the clean inviting beach. We could see the beach but just could not get down to it from where we were. For those who desire direct access to the beach, perhaps the beach-front individual Mayang Sari Resort chalets (next to Indra Maya Villas) would be more appealing.

The villa itself is nothing to rave about. There are three bedrooms. The master bedroom with a king size bed and very huge bathroom. The other two rooms (one with a queen and the other with a twin) both have attached bathrooms. Quality toiletries are provided as well as freshly laundered clean whilte fluffy towels. There was another bathroom/toilet next to the kitchen which is supposedly fully equipped although the microwave oven in our villa was not functioning. Cooking is possible for those who find eating out at one of the numerous eating outlets more troublesome than fixing their own meals. As we were on holiday, none of us felt like cooking so we ate at Kelong restaurant (very near the villa), Makan-makan foodcourt (at the Nirwana Centre), Dino Bistro(at Nirwana Hotel) as well as at Idola Cafe&Resto (at Pasar Oleh-Oleh).

The 6-seater buggy that was provided not only gave us freedom to move about easily but also provided much thrill as the designated driver of our all-girls group manoeuvred over humps, went down slopes, and tackled sharp turns. The buggy is painfully slow most of the time but fun nevertheless. Do remember to charge it whenever possible though.

Those who intend to go to Pasar Oleh-Oleh can save on transportation cost by having a meal at Idola Cafe&Resto (+62 770 691 997). Quality of food is pretty good and the price reasonable. Plus they provide complimentary transportation to-and-fro with a minimum spent of S$50. Just call them to arrange for a pick-up time.

The spa at Nirwana Centre is good and relatively inexpensive (S$38 for an hour massage:S$48 for 1.5 hour). There is another outlet (under the same management) nearer the villa but much more expensive as it is marketed as a more exclusive establishment.

All-in-all, the Indra Maya villas are for those seeking to escape from the hustle-and-bustle of city life and would not be suitable for those looking for adventure and excitement. It is a good for a short and quick get-away from urban Singapore if one can manage to book a villa at a drastically discounted price.

We stayed at the 3 bedroom villa with 1 other couple. The villa is far from luxury and is 2.5 - 3 stars at best. From the moment you walk in you are overwhelmed by the smell of mould which is in fact everywhere. Our friends sleeping in the smaller queen room complained they could constantly smell faeces in their bathroom. Furnishings are dated and the kitchen and bathrooms are old and basic and the place is generally very run down (as per my posted photos). Security needs improvement as even if you lock the sliding doors (both the front doors and the back doors) they slide open at either end anyway. Our pillows in the master bedroom stunk of unwashed hair. We asked for new pillow covers but they still smelled unwashed. Our sheets and quilt had yellow stains on them as well as mould. The TV had bad reception and most channels were fuzzy. The wi-fi was frustratingly slow. Front desk service was poor, we had asked to change our ferry booking time for Singapore which should have been a simple thing to do but instead turned into a 6hr ordeal with us having to constantly chase up for updates and ultimately threaten with a complaint to the general manager to get sorted.
The only thing good about the villa itself is the private pool which is a good size and has water views. Good cheap massage is a short buggy ride away and you do get a buggy to use for free (essential for getting around the resort complex). Food at the resort restaurants we tried were better than expected. Mini zoo was interesting and watching the sunset at Calypso Bar was a highlight. However, for a villa that's meant to be 5 stars and the most luxurious in the Nirwana resort complex we were extremely disappointed. It's definitely not worth the S$800/night we paid let alone the S$1500/night rack rate. I would not recommend it to anyone who is after a 'luxurious' or mould-free experience.
