I booked this hotel because the price was cheap for one night, it looked clean on the pictures and some good reviews (big mistake) the man in reception was lovely and greeted us with a warm welcome. We got the keys to our room, the carpet was filthy on the way to the rooms, there were windows and doors boarded up, the tap in the bathroom wasn’t working, the toilet wouldn’t flush, the chair was filthy. I’m not a stuck up person and as long as somewhere is clean, I don’t mind staying. I didn’t feel safe, and knew I wouldn’t have a good night sleep. We left the hotel and checked in somewhere else, we’re lucky we received a refund but my open and honest opinion is to avoid this hotel and book something more expensive in a nicer area. The hotel could be lovely, I feel sorry for the staff having to work in somewhere that is so dark and unwelcoming. The hotel needs investment.

I will continue to keep posting on this disgraceful place as my experience a few years ago. And the reason is the reviews that have been posted since. I cancelled as soon as I walked through the hotel doors WHY IS THIS HOTEL ALLOWED TO SELL ROOMS TO PEOPLE The only possible way that you rate this hotel more than one is if you got it mixed up with a BIN Stop selling rooms to people this is not right

This place is a joke. You pay for a service yet get given something totally unasked for. I booked through Hotel.com, and this being part of the OYO group of hotels is totally disappointing..and I could say alot more..

Gona keep this short and sweet. Place is a dump. Possibly one of the biggest let downs in expectations, as far as hotels go, as I've ever experienced. I can't believe an international company has the cheek to charge a single pound/dollar a night. Pictures to follow

Do NOT under any circumstances stay at this hotel. It is little more than a doss house. Broken windows. Rotten window frames. No apparent access. Rubbish all round the building. There’s even been a fire in the place. Surprised the AA hasn’t made it clear that it is no longer AA Three Star listed..

OYO George Hotel Burslem Such a Terrible Shame... 860532728 Last time I stayed at the George Hotel, Burslem, was nigh on two score years ago when I was down for my Uncle Jack's funeral. I have to say the room, complete with hardwood four-poster bed, was exactly as I remembered. EXACTLY. As in, it appeared, like the rest of what was one of the finest neoclassical local buildings, superb from the outside, but on entering patently obvious that it hadn't seen a lick of paint in those two score years nor had wallpaper been hung, or even patched - there are wads of the stuff which looked as if it had been peeling for 25+ yrs. At least the cost was honest - cheap and cheerful. They generally couldn't be bothered to open the bar, and I was sorry to see that the formerly well appointed restaurant, which used to be in the hands of a top French Chef, no longer opens at all, even for brekkie. Thank the Lord for the breakfast bap/roll/coffee shop directly over the road. I find it so, so sad that an institution like the George appears to be being left to fade into disrepair - deliberately?? - when for the majority of the 20th Century it was THE place to stay in the Potteries. Finally, I ask the semi-rhetorical question - does the George recruit its Reception staff from ex-Prison Officers who have been sacked from that position for "over- enthusiasm"??!

Hotel very tired. Very grubby. Carpets threadbare. Had a twin room with what looked like narrow metal framed beds. ( like army barrack beds). The mattress was no more than 3 inches deep and the springs were poking through( it must have been 10 yrs old or more) Terrible nights sleep The room was incredibly small and the bathroom was barely cleaned very very old and tired and dated. Yes, it is a budget hotel, but my god, it was awful . The whole place was grubby and dirty. The threadbare carpets had never been vacuumed in weeks, and there is no lift. Do not go there, it is terrible

Reviews and photos seen seemed OK, booked deluxe room. On day of travel got message to say there was a problem with room. On arrival exterior looked tired & rundown but even worse inside. Room double booked so offered standard room with refund. Hoped that room was better than corridors but no - sticky laminate, filthy broken furniture, wall lights broken or no way of turning on, sink coming away from wall, barhroom walls dirty, mattress in bed probably cheapest available, same with 2 pillows (wire wool!) but one had huge stain & what looked like dried vomit. Have never been in a room where we knew we couldn't take our clothes off! Plusses? - clean linen & towels and very pleasant receptionist. Pictures on ALL sites are false and don't show truth plus NO cooked breakfast available just cereal & toast - all for £8!

The moment I parked up in the private car park in this place, I had some doubts about this hotel- there was a large heap of rubbish, bottles and cigarette buds on the ground. The front door (old) of the hotel was bolted and locked during the broad daylight of 5pm in this heatwave. Check in was ok. The entire carpet and wallpapers were old, tattered and peeling off. But when I entered my room (room 208), my jaw dropped in huge disbelief. It was unbelievably old, filthy and broken. The bed was plain old simple and used. The mirror and dressing table was broken and old with missing knobs. The wardrobe was just as old as anyone's grandmother. There was pubic hair on the corner of the floor tile suggesting the housekeeping is not thorough and satisfactory. There was still water in the kettle which meant someone was in this room recently and housekeeping didnt even clean the kettle which is disgusting. The toilet is so so so old and filthy and there was no shower head or hose. Just old fashioned bath. I dared not even lie on the bed or use the bathroom. The wifi didnt even work. I only spent 20 mins this room looking for another hotel nearby- paid more money to that hotel, returned the key and left the hotel. THis hotel is simply disgusting, filthy and should be closed for deep cleaning and sterlisation. I am NHS senior doctor and it is unbelievable that this hotel is still running its business. Someone should call the health inspection coz room 208 looks like a haunted room to me where the occupants stay in and have nightmares living in it. I left this hotel within the hour after booking another hotel room- paying more money. I was so keen to give my room to the young chap at the reception as charity to allow him to experience my disgust and horror. This hotel should be closed for deep cleaning, complete refurbishment and modernisation or just remained closed without its license. Oh my gosh! Someone should call Gordon Ramsay or Hollywood- we found the perfect venue in George Hotel for a horror film to take place as it completely put me off my mood even though I was dehydrated, tired and hungry from work and heatwave. I left this hotel within the hour in disgust. One of the worst hotels ever in 2022 for a price of £44- it is not charity and it charges me this much for this piece of filth. Very very angry customer- if I could, I would alert the health inspectors to check on your hotel hygiene.
