I cannot fault this trip. The hotel is beautiful. Set in the countryside but a quick 20 min taxi will take you in to Dumfries. Room was very nice, views to the river were gorgeous. Staff were excellent, nothing was too much. Cosy lounge, loved having drinks by the fire. Food was lovely too.

my wife and I stayed here in December for one night. we have stayed several times before and have always found this place to be very cosy as well as having an interesting history. check-in was good and straightforward with Covid measures in place. our room was nice - the redwood suite which is a large room with a 4 poster bed and a large Jacuzzi bath in a large bathroom with a double sink. our evening meal was nice and the service was good. I especially enjoyed sitting in the cosy lounge by the fire with a drink after our meal the only one minor issue was when we were given the bill - they had charged us the DBB rate then added the cost of our evening meal on top, however, I noticed this and they corrected it straight away. overall a nice quiet stay in a lovely place

We stayed in a self catering cottage called Dun Mohr , it was beyond filthy. The fridge has meat blood left in it. Crumbs and general grime. The cutlery drawers were full of dried food, both on utensils and gathered inside the drawers. The cupboards and door handles has food on them. The cooker hood was filthy. The wine glasses in cupboard still has red wine in them along with lipstick and a filthy hand print. The shower cubicle had brown matter on the tiles. There is mould and mildew all over tiles. The place needs a Heath Inspector there before somebody Before someone gets seriously ill.

The externally attractive hotel is in a great location close to the river Nith and ideally situated for driving some of the great and almost empty roads in the area, with superb scenery. The hotel is well away from the road and we had no worries about security of cars. The staff were very friendly, helpful and keen to ensure that we enjoyed our stay, which we did. Our room was very pleasant with an excellent bathroom and the bed was comfortable. Wifi was sketchy in parts of the hotel but fine just outside the entrance. The food was adequate but there is room for improvement. A new chef joined the hotel a week ago and is keen to raise the standard. £95 for dinner, bed & breakfast is pretty good value in 2021. We will be happy to stay at this hotel again and hope to do so in 2022.
