Overnighter with dinner bed and breakfast at this lovely old hotel. Room was well positioned with a view over open countryside. Food was excellent and well presented. Friendly helpul staff. Set in lovely countryside with walks along the river. A great place for fishermen as the hotel has its own stretch of river.

My husband and I spend two nights at Friars Carse in February which we really enjoyed. We stayed in the Redwood Suite and loved the space and décor. The Jacuzzi bath was amazing. We had a deal with a three course dinner included on the first night with a glass of Prosecco which was very good. We ate in the...

We stayed for three nights as a birthday treat. The Redwood Suite surpassed our expectations with regard to comfort, warmth, views and the fabulous whirlpool bath. It was a delight to sit in the comfortable lounge in front of the fire. Loved the 'rotating' menu, which meant that it was perfectly enjoyable to eat in the restaurant for three nights...

We have stayed at this hotel many times previously and are never let down. We had booked our favourite room – the Redwood Suite – for us the best in the hotel. The room looks out over the River Nith and the grounds. The bathroom is absolutely huge and has the largest Jacuzzi bath I have ever seen actually inside...

Good comfortable room and bed hotel may be haunted as dog was spooked during the night jury out on this one. Beautiful grounds to walk in and large field for dogs to run in (check for sheep first). Food vey good good bar and great sitting by fire.

We had two nights and breakfasts plus one nights dinner with a glass of fizz for two people for £150. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere but is in the middle of some lovely countryside. The river Nith flows right by it and you can see why it's a favourite place for fishermen. Yes, the place is in...

Saw a bargain offer for this hotel and decided to take advantage. I expected it to be old fashioned inside and whilst it is an old building it just gave the impression of a warm, welcoming house, with lots of lovely features. Our room was large, bright and comfortable, with beautiful views through the amazing bay window. Bathroom was fresh...

This was a typical country house retreat and although furnishings were a little tired looking, staff were very welcoming and ambience was good. Slight warm turn in weather must have caught them out as I found the dining room and bedrooms uncomfortably hot. Food was excellent - a good choice using some fresh and well cooked local produce. No soggy...
