We came down from London for an overnight visit, due to a family party. What we found was a little gem in this location. From arrival to departure nothing was too much trouble, on check in John checked us in and led the way to our room dressed head to toe in tartan and he certainly made a fab impression on us both. The Room was so well designed, the bathroom too had all your needs available just felt very cosy we was in the main house. Breakfast super choice of juice, croissants, toast and full English.. vegans too are catered for so again thought all food options covered. Checkout was met by the house house pooch wen we descended downstairs, and was on our way with in a few mins of dropping the key in reception. Happy to most defo recommend and we are even looking forward to when we can return. Value for money, seems like plenty to do and the hotel are even happy to assist with recommendations especially for Xmas markets and the such like! Thank you soooo much Room 7 arrival 4/12/21.

We had remarkable food and had great service from really friendly and helpful staff, and nothing was too much trouble for them. Thanks to them we had one of the best receptions. A very memorable occasion, many thanks.

A superb night away with my hubby. We were welcomed into the beautiful setting by the wonderful owners. Felt as though we had known them for years. Our room was comfortable, clean and the refurb has paid off. The food was outstanding. We will definitely return 😁

A superb country house hotel in a lovely quiet part of the countryside in easy reach of the airport and the South West..... Delightful rooms with food to match. Alan, Caroline and staff could not be more welcoming... I took my 83 year old mother and she loved it! We will be back!

Before lock down, me and a few friends used to visit the Holcombe, a few times a week whilst out cycling. Never the most welcoming of pubs but the cider was nice and it was on our route. Last year, in a gap in lock down, I paid for a couple of nights in one of their lodges and had a pleasant weekend. It was an end of treatment (chemotherapy) treat for my girlfriend, so I was prepared to pay their high prices for a local (same tier) treat away, and was trying to book the same for this year as a celebration of a good prognosis and a positive year. Unfortunately, the same lodge wasn't free but I was hoping to book a room instead. But a few weeks ago, me and a friend were cycling by and thought we'd stop for a couple of pints. The car park was virtually empty and the bar/restaurant was completely empty, so when I walked in, my first question the the owner was "are you open?" We were then asked if we just wanted a drink, which we did, and were told he had a full hotel and if we wanted a drink we would have to sit outside. Okay, we're enjoying a mild autumn, but effectively being told that you're not good enough to drink inside is a bit of an insult, especially after the money I've spent there over several years. I can understand if I was wearing lycra shorts (that would put anyone off their food) or if we were covered in mud after some serious off-roading but we weren't. Has he never seen the film pretty women? I don't have the spending power of Richard Gere but I do enjoy spending money on weekends away, nice meals and more than an occasional cider, but I won't be spending a penny here again. I notice there is now a sign saying quests and diners only, I have been both in the past but it appears that counts for nothing. If you fancy high end food, I would suggest the Talbot at Mells (also, on our cycling route but more than happy to lower themselves to serve us 3 days a week) or if a traditional pub grub is more your thing, the White Post is always ready to give a warm country pub welcome. Surely, the appeal of coming to Somerset and staying at a country pub, is to experience a country pub. But, if the sight of a couple of cyclists offends you or seeing someone drink a pint with friends at a bar, fills you with disgust, then this is probably the place for you, but I for one will be spending my money elsewhere.

Dear Kevin, Thank you for your review. We were pleased to hear you enjoyed a pleasant stay in one of our lodges, particularly for such an important occasion, last year however, we are sorry to learn you miss how The Holcombe used to be. As you may be aware, we purchased The Holcombe in November 2019 and during the course of lockdown we renovated the Inn and revised the previous offering. As we are no longer a pub our inside bar is now open for hotel guests and restaurant diners only, however everyone is welcome to join us for a drink in the garden. We do hope you may consider giving us another try in the future.
