A lovely stay (unfortunately only for 1 night) at this gorgeous old house which has been lovingly and tastefully brought into the 21st century. The staff were great, the room gave us ample space to spread out and relax and cam with all the extras we would expect from a high end hotel. Didnt use the spa (not our thing) so can't comment on that but, overall, our stay could not be faulted. A great breakfast as well!

This is a return visit to the Gaia Spa for a Hot Stone Massage for an Anniversary treat. As always we were warmly welcomed at the reception arriving earlier to make use of the other facilities this tasteful and luxurious spa has to offer. Both Emma and Emily made us feel special, thank you both. It’s so lovely to take time out to unwind, de-stress and totally relax especially after the restrictions we have all had to adjust to during this pandemic. Just slipping into a freshly laundered toweling robe and sliding your feet into a pair of flip flops, you instantly shed any weight of the world you maybe carrying at the entrance. The pool is an idyllic size, depth and temperature. Would like to see more loungers indoors especially if the weather restricts access to the outside patio areas. However, there is restricted space around the pool area. Maybe a further extension in years to come may facilitate this as there is room to extend outwards towards the sloped grass area. The day we went there were obviously restricted numbers, and we had to share one lounger which only became available a while after we were there. The steam and sauna rooms were being used and we felt if we had used them , social distancing would have proved a problem. People tended not to move around in these, but stayed for extended amounts of time which is their choice, however others like us may not have got to use these, which is disappointing. Our couples hot stone massage was amazing. Thank you so very much to Amy and Alicia. Two extremely friendly professional therapists that despite working to strict guidelines made our day. I’d had this massage before but my husband had not. We both benefited immensely from both the technique and essential oils this incredibly relaxing massage achieves. It’s a nice touch to further chill in the post massage lounge, and we were lucky enough to have the couples room. As a couple it was nice to be together, relax and absorb the essential oils and hydrate with cups of water provided. This spa is my ‘Happy Place’. It’s a little pricey and we use it for special occasions, and so pleased when family buy us gift vouchers too. Would highly recommend Gaia Spa, you will get hooked, it’s a first class sanctuary with first class therapists.

We stayed over for one night as we were going for a show in the evening. When we arrived at the hotel we had a warm welcome, then was asked to pay , but we had already pre paid. Asked to pre booked a taxi and Reception confirmed. After a nice dip in the pool and exploring the sauna. Came to Reception as ready to go for a meal, but unfortunately the taxi never arrived. So had to drive it to the city. Breakfast was really nice and staff we not talking in English, so bit uncomfortable on what they are talking about as we had an early Breakfast. Overall a good stay, lots of new staff and they dont have much knowledge about the history of the building or the poor cat which has sadly passed away.

Some friends and I I stayed here for a couple of days. It was absolute bliss from the service to the spa. The hidden room through the bookcase was magical and bubbles in the outside jacuzzi were a delight. They tended to my dietary requirements with ease, considered sustainability, and enabled us to leave fully refreshed as if we had been away for longer. An incredible find and a must for those in Devon who need a bit of down/me time.

My partner treated me to a pregnancy/birthday get away for one night at this hotel I would like to firstly say we enjoyed our high tea and spa experience/treatments but then when going to use showers in the changing rooms there was no water… so we then went to our room to shower and get ready for our evening meal, my partner who had a shower first was disgusted at the colour of the water that come out on him whilst showering. As I am pregnant I did not want to risk washing in the dirty water so we went to tell the reception…. Who said have we not been warned about this, witch we hadn’t and all they did was apologise. So I therefore had to go to my evening meal with wet chlorine smelling hair. The next day the water was still dirty so we still could not wash or clean our teeth or nothing the manager did apologise and refunded us a small amount of money off our bill. But then to our horror a day after staying we both come down with a awful sickness for 3 days leaving me very ill whilst pregnant I have tried to contact the hotel but they have been no help and said they will return my call but still waiting! Therefore we will definitely not be returning we are very angry and upset with how much money we paid for us to just become very poorly due to the hotels dirty water!
