We stayed for 2 nights. Food and service were absolutely 1st class. The hotel is an old house so is not flash but is full of character. There is not a lot to do but it is a perfect place for a quiet stay and Dunblane, Bridge of Allan & Stirling are all close for a visit.

This is not our first stay at Cromlix so It is fair to say that I write this review in the full knowledge of what the hotel has to offer and that it has always been a favourite of ours. So what elevates this hotel above others in this sector. Firstly, if you are travelling in or through Scotland, the location is superb, situated in its own grounds in beautiful countryside a couple of miles from the A9 in Kinbuck, close to Dunblane and Stirling. It’s an excellent base from which to explore the Trossachs, Gleneagles golf resort, Perthshire and gives easy access to the west coast. It’s also a great stopping-off point if you are travelling further afield. The welcome is second to none…This time Loren met us with a smile, Frazer offered help with the luggage and our dogs received a warm welcome as well. There was no rush to go to the room so we settled in one of the lounges with the dogs and enjoyed a pot of tea. The best way I can describe Cromlix is ….well it’s like putting your feet in a comfy pair of slippers, it just feels right. Our room, as always, was spotless, with a clear label on the door that the room had been thoroughly cleaned ready for us (think Covid security measures). Spacious room, huge bathroom, super comfy bed, flat screen TV, dog bed and bowls, fresh fruit, etc. We’d booked an evening meal in the airy restaurant where you can see the chefs at work. The food on both nights was beautifully presented and very tasty. We enjoyed chatting, albeit briefly, with Euan who was "front of house". The menu changes daily and caters for all tastes. After the evening meal we retired to the lounge and settled in front of the fire with the dogs. Breakfast is a relaxed affair….no rush here…..and why rush, there is a wide selection of juices, cereals, fruit, porridge and freshly cooked hot food to set you up for the day ahead. (Thank you Betty). Cromlix has a character all of its own, informal but professional and very efficient. Nothing is too much trouble and all of the staff obviously love working here and it shows in the way they interact with the guests. We love it…well done Graeme and the team.

We stayed in Cromlix for two nights, and we wished we could have stayed longer. The Covid arrangements were faultless, with hand sanitisers strategically placed, and signs urging guests to use them. All staff and guests wore masks constantly and there were signs in the corridors requesting sensible social distancing, which everyone observed. When we arrived, our room had been sanitised beforehand, and our luggage was sanitised before being delivered to the room after just a few minutes. The room we had was the Conan Doyle room, which was quiet and very comfortable, with a really nice bathroom. We had views over the surrounding woodlands We used the lounges quite a lot, and found them warm, welcoming and comfortable. The open fires were frequently tended. Staff would drop in and check whether we needed anything. Something we really appreciated was when the staff took time to chat, and we found each one of them interesting, friendly, and efficient. There is an excellent atmosphere amongst the staff, and they all seem to enjoy working part of the Cromlix team. As you might expect, the food in the restaurant was excellent, as was the service, with the tables well spaced out. The kitchen area is open to the restaurant, which provided some additional culinary theatre at mealtimes. The breakfasts are particularly nice, and I really enjoyed the delicious porridge brulee, which I'm going to try and replicate at home. This was our first visit to Cromlix, and we'll certainly be booking for a return visit. One word of caution. There are around 20 steps to climb from the car park to the reception level. If you have a lot of luggage, you may want to ask for some help with your luggage. There is an alternative entrance available which has ramp access, if required.

Claiming bragging rights to staying/being married at Sir Andy Murray's Hotel may be the motivation for many guests but its a lovely well restored historic building with interesting places to visit within the vicinity - such as the Japanese Gardens at Cowden and the Kelpies at Falkirk (with great views of Stirling Castle en route).
