The bathroom, bedroom and communal areas were dirty. Old bedding with stains on the pillows and futons. The bathroom was downstairs through multiple doors and very dirty. I was a bit creeped out and got my boyfriend to guard the door every time I showered. Very cold in the bathroom and hallway which gets to be very uncomfortable when it's -10 Deg C outside, and one of the rules was you had to turn off the room heater when you went to sleep, so it got pretty cold. Close to mountain. Friendly host. Good price considering everywhere else nearby is so expensive. Really fast wifi. I didn't catch anything, and you too will survive, but would have preferred somewhere cleaner. I went with my boyfriend, I booked this place and he won't let me forget it-He now gets a "get out of jail free pass" next crappy place he books.

This place was pretty bad. I suspect it used to be better, but they just haven't kept up with the cleaning. Actual room and toilets are okay (ish), but the rest is not. Cat poo all through the entrance where you have to take off your shoes. No common area downstairs because it is full of the owner's junk. No hot water in the sinks (doesn't seem like a big deal until it is -10 celsius outside). One shower for the whole place that also isn't particularly clean (take shoes to wear in the shower). Bed is not a futon; it's just a cheap old, stained foam mattress. On the plus side, the location is great and the owner is friendly. Just needs a bit of care.

The Pension is very basic, cluttered with furniture and rubbish. The walls in bedrooms are wafer thin, so you can hear every conversation next door, and when a late party arrive, forget sleep. There is no hot water in the bathroom sinks. people smoke in the "common" area and there is a dirty micro-wave. OK, The bedrooms are clean, plenty of clean bedding. Worst of all through our stay was that the owner keeps a pathetic emaciated old dog chained up on 1 meter of line in the outdoor kennel in the freezing cold and ice; the dog's bedding was non-existing, a freezing icy wet piece of sack cloth. He badly needed medical attention, with one festering blind eye, and was severely underfed. The owner throws out a handful of kibble each morning ( which the ravens jump down and eat), frozen water as drink. He also keeps a sad old smelly cat in the lobby. I was pleased to be able to give the dog some food each day and happy to say that I cut up one of the owners blankets for the dog. We contacted authorities and rescue groups but unfortunately we don't have any information as to what has happened to this animal. This situation really upset me and spoiled my stay in Rusutsu as I cant stand animal cruelty and will never stay there again. It is as cheap as chips but recognise that If you stay here, you are condoning severe animal cruelty. Find somewhere else.

The room we stayed in at Sky Be was large and, while fairly Spartan, was quite comfortable. We were the only people in the pension for the first 2 days, but it suddenly filled up on our third. Smoking is allowed inside, which was a little unpleasant as I am not a smoker, but not an insurmountable issue. Limited cooking facilities, but again, not a major concern. Internet was free and fast. Bathroom was not especially clean, but not terrible. Only about a five-seven minute walk from the Pension to the Gondola at Rusutsu. While this pension was nothing special, the value for money was excellent.
