Morii-san and Yoko-san are the most hospitable hosts. The included breakfasts are varied, substantial and served at either 7.30 or 8am. Cooked by Yoko. Dinner by Morii is 7 courses - traditional and delicious- prior bookings required but not served Sunday. Free clothes washing. Ample drying room. Best of all bathrooms for 2 persons with wonderful hot tub. Manako will drive you the short distance 3mins to the ski slopes shops restaurants etc. Free Wifi. Beautiful views from our spacious bedrooms which are cosy and comfortable. Small bar fridge in room and larger fridge to share beside the free tea coffee choc etc. 10 out of 10 and would definitely stay again.
We only stayed one night but immediately wished we had booked to stay longer. Mori and Yoko are wonderful hosts and welcomed us like family. Our room was comfortable for 5 guests and the breakfast was delicious including broccoli a scarce sight when in Japan! I would recommend to stay here for the welcoming experience and the attractive price. Will be back here whenever visiting rusutsu in future.
We spent 6 nights in Pension Clydesdale in late December 2017. We have skied in Japan a number of times but this was our first trip to Rusutsu and we were so glad we chose to stay here; overall it was a great experience. Morii and Yoko and their staff are the most wonderful and warm hosts, they went out of their way to make sure we had a great time with them. The pension is absolutely spotlessly clean and super warm and comfortable. The food is great and the Italian course dinner we had prepared by Morii was delicious. Getting around is super easy and the team are always happy to drop you off and pick you up from skiing, dinner or other trips into town - which is less than 3 mins in the van or a 15 minute walk, the location is about as good as you get in Rusutsu unless you stay in one of the two large chain hotels which are not for us…
All the good comments that we read about the place are true! The owners, Morii and Yoko, are super and make you feel very welcome. We stayed for 7 nights with two teenage boys and everyone loved the place. We had some worries how the shared bathroom and toilet facilities would work, but everything was great (even as all 5 guest rooms were occupied). The room was smallish but it was well compensated by the authentic and warm atmosphere. Food was really good, both breakfast and dinners which are Italian style cooking with local ingredients (you have to order dinner in advance). It is an easy 15 minutes walk to the resort with restaurants and convenience stores. In the mornings they had a van waiting outside when we wanted to leave for the slopes and they came to pick us up after the ski day when we just called. Everything worked well and with a smile - we can really recommend this place!…
Great place with very friendly and extremely helpful hosts. Big house, managed by a Japanese family with 5 rooms. Bathrooms are shared but are kept very clean - there are 5 toilets and 2 very large shower/bath rooms (huge bath easily fits 2 people, great after skiing). Rooms are also very clean and with great views of mountains. The hosts are amazing cooks, would recommend eating there if you don't mind strict timing - they cook for everyone at the same time so start time is set. The hosts also provide a driving service to slopes or restaurants at almost any time of the day. There is also a 10% discount on ski rentals through clydesdale, ask the hosts ahead of time. Amazing value, would highly recommend this place!
We were a group of 5 adults 50-63 years old from Australia. We have been to Japan skiing a number of times at Niseko and Furano, This was our first experience at Rusutsu. Morrie and his wife are the most outstanding hosts you could hope for. The accomodation and facilities are clean and comfortable. The one and only downside is that our agent booked this for us as a twin room, and another twin room stairs leading to a twin loft. In fact the loft was a straight up wooden ladder into a tiny loft with a mattress on the floor. It would possibly be fine for a couple of young kids or perhaps a couple of young blokes. No power points just a floor with mattress. I stress that apart from that it is outstanding. A little distance from the resort and lifts but Morrie drops everything at a moments notice and drives you in and picks you up.…
This was my fourth visit to Rusutsu but my first to Clydesdale and what a difference. Previously I had stayed at the big kitch resort down the road previously but noted this year prices there had become ridiculous, so I looked elsewhere. I can only say I wish I'd found Clydesdale earlier. Based on others reviews here on TA I booked but was sceptical about the distance from the main hub of Rusutsu and I do prefer a room with a bathroom normally. In the end this wasn't an issue. Our host Mori (whose English is fantastic) was never more than 5 minutes away in the little silver rocket Nissan bus. Honestly we found ourselves at places quicker as Mori literally was a very efficient and fast door/door service. When you finished skiing you rang Mori and 3-5 minutes later...BOOM he was there. Not once in 7 days did we have to wait! The rooms were more akin to staying at grandmas house than a hotel, and they were clean, warm and comfortable. Showers were only a short walk downstairs and they were always available. Clydesdale only has 10-12 guests. Mori and his lovely wife Yoko made superb meals, Italian Japanese style and we ate 3 dinners in our 7 nights and of course breakfast every day. Clydesdale is truly a hidden gem and I recommend it beyond 100% to anyone looking for something more authentic and quiet. But dont tell too many...I want to be able to get a room in the future!…
My 4th time staying with Morri and Yoko. Sure it is great skiing in the winter, exquisite food and beautiful comfortable lodging all year round....But is is this beautiful family that keeps me coming back. This time it was a summer holiday and I wish we had stayed longer. It is a perfect base to hot air balloon with Morii and also visit Lake Toya region which is only 20 mins away. Please give our hosts your respect and enjoy their amazing hospitality.
What a little gem this pace is. The hosts look after you like you are part of their own family, its cosy, warm and feels like you are staying in someones home and we loved it. BOOK THE DINNERS EVERY NIGHT!!!! They are fantastic. 7 course meals and just prepared with so much love and skill. A beautiful start to our trip.
This really is the best place to stay in Rusutsu! Morri and Yoko are the best hosts that you could ask for, so attentive and available at a moments notice if you need a lift to the slopes, the restaurants or need anything at all. The house it incredible, it is so homely, with lots of space in the rooms. The facilities within the pension are second to none, with huge bathrooms as well as baths (kind of like a hot tub), which is perfect after a day of skiing. Morri and Yoko also put on an excellent breakfast making it the perfect way to start your day. Initially, I was sceptical about the pension being slightly out of town, but I was proved entirely wrong as Morri is constantly available to give you a ride. Rusutsu is very small place anyway, so everything is within a 2 minute drive. We also worked out that we could walk back to the Pension if need be, as it would only be a 10 minute walk from the main resort complex back to the Pension. All in all, I would 100% recommend Pension Clydesdale!…
