Enjoyed staying here for a week with family and friends. Mr. Yamada rarely cracks a smile but the service is good and the food variety excellent and good prices for our stay. Loved the onsen after a hard day of skiing in knee to thigh deep powder through the trees. Ride to the gondolas in the morning quick even for...

We have stayed at Yamada Pension the past two winters to snowboard at Rusutsu Resort. It is a family run traditional Japanese hotel that caters well to English-speakers. Examples of the traditional Japanese feel include: ability to use the bath (ofuro) next to the shower, tatami rooms with futons, Japanese meals for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast and dinner always change,...

Typical 2 star accommodation with shared bathroom, tatami rooms, futons and simple decor. But definitely worth coming here for the convenience to Rusutsu Resort, the great food and hospitality. The family that runs this pension has been doing it for years, but they haven't lost their warmth and energy. Recommended for a simple, Japanese home-stay type experience.

Our stay at Yamada Pension was perfect. The room was simple but nice, clean and comfortable. The family that runs Yamada is incredibly sweet. They made us feel so welcome - picked us up at the ski hill and dropped us off again there at the end of our stay. I will definitely be back.

Every once in a while you come across something truly special, a place that you almost instantly know you'll want to come back to. This was my first time staying at Pension Yamada but it absolutely won't be the last. Everything in the previous reviews is correct. This place is difficult to book unless you go through a travel agent,...

Two level pension with a small number of traditional bath rooms (think onsen on a small scale). Sleeping is on the floor on futon mattress. This allows them to be rolled up during the day to give more space in the rooms. Breakfast and dinner are great (and again traditional) which is good because there are very few shops in...

I wholeheartedly reccommend a stay at Pension Yamada. It is very traditional in the style of living, with futon sleeping on the floor, few furnishings in the room and a miniture onsen for washing. It is perfectly clean the whole time, and the service is incredible. We decided on not getting the dinners that Mrs Yamada cooks (as I worked...

We spent Christmas and New Year at Pension Yamada and had a wonderful time. Mr. & Mrs. Yamada did their best to make us comfortable and feel at home, they are such wonderful people! The pension is not big but very cozy and clean. The location as well is excellent. Mr. Yamada was kind enough to drive us each morning...

Less than 10 minutes walk to East Gondola station. I would say closer to lifts than most of Rusutsu resort. Yamada San will drive you to East Mt Central but most days I just walked to the Gondola station and caught the East Gondola 1 to East Mt. You can ski from top of West Mt Gondola direct to Pension...
