Good but not deluxe ski/out resort geared to families rather than couples. All rooms are duplexes I believe. They are not soundproof; on certain days, we had disruptive noise from the children from the higher floor till very late at night. We then decided to sleep in the less comfortable beds on the lower floor. Great views over mountains and volcanoes. Great daily seafood buffet, exceptionally well priced given the quality and quantity of offerings. Breakfast is very good as well, but tends to be very crowded, as most people wish to have breakfast at around 830/9am . The buffet closes at 10am in the main restaurant and 930am in the smaller restaurant. The on-site ski rental shop is messy and unsuitable for advanced skiers, as only basic skis are on offer, and they seem to lack longer skis required by tall skiers. If you are in this category, I recommend renting directly from the Salomon expert ski rental shop on the other side of the resort. The shop also erroneously billed me for 2 items, which were corrected upon check out after review by the staff, and the hotel apologized. The spa/onsen is dated and could be made a lot better, given the overall price range of this hotel. There is no pool. Marriott Platinum benefits are recognized and were very much appreciated. …
The resort is perfect for family skiing, given the range of terrain that it offers beginner to intermediate skiers. It allowed our kids to have loads of fun despite a variance of ski levels. The 5 person, bi-level room allowed us to have loads of space and the welcome gifts (local snacks) were a great touch. 2 small areas to consider: during the next big upgrade, can an in room washer and dryer be added, plus inform guests early to make dinner reservations so as to ensure that they have a hassle free time at the resort
First snow trip at Rusutsu and it was amazing with high snowfall and seeing the transformation from almost nothing to 1 meter snow around. Skiing was excellent with kids enjoying the same. Although there should be better options for lunch and dinner inside the hotel, it was manageable. Next door Rusutsu resort also has limited options though it says many restaurants on its website, many used to be still closed and isolated. We got upgraded to a high floor room and the view was beautiful. All are duplex rooms, clean and upto date but with only 1 bath/ toilet downstairs room. Restaurant service staff is very kind but a bit slow. May be there are still gearing up for the revived volume of guests after Covid. But no worries. Fantastic winter stay ! Will visit again. Thankyou Westin & Mariott 😊…
Looking for JAPOW and having explored Niseko and Nagano before we decided to give it a try. The hotel is a big hotel rather than a lodge for those who may be used to smaller places. Customer service was great, rooms were spotless, well cleaned, and big. We had a great view of the slopes. Loved having a small kitchenette. Onsen was great, separate men’s and women’s sides. Gym was terrible (it’s only a tiny room maybe 1x6 metres with hardly any resistance equipment. See photo), no club lounge BUT they allow elite members to use a special section of the bar by the restaurant and provide a free menu of items (see photo) that you can order as many of as you want. The service was friendly and fast initially, but follow up service is a bit slower. Breakfast was great and lots of options. We had dinner at the buffet 3 nights and it was good, lots of nice seafood and great to have crab legs - well worth the price. Ski lockers downstairs are good, and having a Seven Eleven near the front of the hotel makes getting snacks convenient. You have to walk from here about 200m to a ski lift, but that only takes you to a slightly higher area, from there you have to walk to other lifts. Not a particularly snowboard friendly set up. Definitely not ski in/ski out. Other options are taking the monorail from inside the hotel across the road to the other side of the mountain which requires less walking but it’s REALLY slow. Once on the mountain the runs are small and over pretty quick but the runs through the trees and side-pisting in the deep pow are loads of fun.…
Lots of good things which most people have already mentioned. Staff were great, and GM greeted us (we are newly Bonvoy Platinum). Nice lounge snacks. Upgraded to a top floor 5 bed room. Monorail a bit of a hassle with skis I imagine, but not essential. Access to nice new onsen in Resort side. Also a fun wave pool for kids. Westin fitness tiny. Golf is the main attraction outside the ski season. We had a good off-season/COVID rate, but gets pricey in winter.
The room is very clean and quiet, mattress is super comfortable and the room is very big with awesome view. Been there 3 times already and has become my favourite hotel. Food quality is excellent and you can also choose to eat at Rusutsu Resort Hotel & Convention (there is a free monorail train connecting it to Westin Rusutsu) which is excellent for buffet dinner and kids activities. The golf courses there are also awesome, especially the wood course and the river course.
Loved our stay at the Westin Rusutsu. This is a beautiful property set within a scenic winter wonderland. Special thank you to the General Manager Atsushi Miyazaki who offers sincere greetings and a warm welcome to each guest every morning. Thanks for making us feel special. Also, I appreciate Ria for the great service offered at the main restaurant. Ria is a great credit to the Westin. The meals are lovely, plenty of adventure activities on the property, and rooms are 2 levels and roomy. Service is splendid. Thanks Westin management and staff for making our holiday memorable.
We had five nights at the Westin. The location is fantastic. Grab your skis from the locker and walk outside into the snow. Or catch the monorail to the other resort and ski at night. Wonderful views, big rooms, helpful and friendly staff. You can charge everything back to your room, including at the other resort (take your room details with you). There's a good mix of skiing available. It is a ski in/out hotel, and you pay for that privilege, but it's value for money. The free shuttle from Sapporo is good too. The onsen is great. It was my second time to an onsen and I'm learning to really enjoy them.
Nice hotel , excellent service, very clean and comfortable. The breakfast also excellent. The Onzen are amazing place for relaxing after skiing with indoor and outdoor view to the snowy mountain. The Japanese Restaurant is also nice for dinner with excellent taste and fresh sashimi. We try their teppanyaki this is so super yummy
We’ve been to Niseko since 2009 and it’s become unbearably busy. The queues on powder days are ridiculously long (30 mins for the Ace Quad). Rusutsu is so much quieter (4000 maximum occupancy in hotels compared to what feels like almost 400 hotels in Hirafu alone). Runs are long and wide, and mostly intermediate. Also no idiots out here on the slopes. We were there for 8 days and I only saw 2 selfie sticks on the slopes. You can tell the skiers and boarders are serious about their sport here, not just trying to get the best selfie (cannot say the same for Hirafu now). Everyone is skiing and snowboarding responsibly. However, the Westin is old. It’s really old. The lobby is grand but the bathrooms, carpets, and decor are circa 1990. Bed is fortunately comfortable. It’s time for a real upgrade considering the price point. Food is also mediocre. Breakfast standard fare, pastries excellent. But almost no options for lunch except the fast food dining hall. For dinner we had to repeat sukiyaki and shabu shabu a few nights because the resort lacks choices. Kitchen is not equipped for cooking nor are there grocery stores nearby. We’ll always land back in Niseko for the restaurants but Rusutsu has proven itself a great competitor. Hopefully more dining options will open up with Vale joining. The staff is very young, mostly local, Chinese and Southeast Asian, and not very well-trained. They struggled to deal upfront with simple questions and often had to scurry away to ask for help. Customer service is not at the same level you expect from a Westin. We were also not greeted by the front staff despite staying here for 8 days - not a real problem but it’s almost unheard of in Japan. The concierge was the only one who stood out, Maeda-san, was helpful before and during the trip. Personally came to greet us when we arrived. General manager of the hotel also sought us out on our second last day (we are Marriott Bonvoy ambassador members), which was appreciated. The monorail was fun for our toddler. A bit annoying for us to get a child dressed up in full gear to go for dinner every time. I would not consider this really ski-in ski-out accomodation, and I don’t think it’s very clear on the website. To me, this is lift accessible, meaning from the Westin you need to go about 5-7 minutes on flat ground with your skis (it’s really flat) to a complimentary chair lift ride (another 5 mins) that takes you to the actual ski lift or you can ride the monorail to a different mountain. But you don’t actually ski down the slope into the hotel. You can ski into the Rusutsu Resort hotel.…
