Wonderful place to stay for a weeks skiing. The 'Captain', his family and employees are lovely and extremely helpful. Can ski from the door and can access all other ski areas in the region without shuttle bus if you want. Comfortable rooms with clean bathroom facilities. Great onsen. Fabulous lounge with open fire and bar with views out on to...

Captain Nobuo and his wif were fantastic! Couldn't have been more helpful. The meals, particularly dinner, were great. The wasn't much variety with breakfast - scrambled eggs (very nice though) every day. The bar is great with terrific views of the slopes - had some very pleasant evenings in there chatting to guests. From the front door you can ski...

The captain and his son were wonderful! My sister and I did not have enough cash to pay for our stay but they allowed us to do a bank transfer after leaving the place. The food was great too. I took a ski lesson from the captain's son and he was exceedingly patient.

This is the seventh time in ten years that we've stayed at Villa Alpen and it continues to improve with age. Every year, we try another ski resort such as Hakuba and Nozawa Onsen for variety but we always end up coming"home" to Villa Alpen for a few days. The interiors are not sexy and styled up as in a...

I visited and stayed at this hotel with my wife and my Swedish friend for three nights at the beginning of this March. I highly recommend this hotel by several reasons. As others have mentioned and also the captain who is the owner of the hotel has admitted, this hotel is not among most fashionable but it is old; however...

Me and 3 other frds went for a 5 night stay at shiga kogen targeting to hunt some powder snow. Service is great! As mentioned on other reviews Food was excellent! Location allows me to either ski in ski out, or take the early direct bus to yakibityama for some long runs. I have the understanding of shiga kogen as...

I booked this hotel at the last minute after I decided to head up to Shiga Kogen to go skiing and also visit the snow monkeys at Yamanouchi-onsen (Jigokudani Monkey Park). This hotel is really convenient for both. It is located at right in front of the Sun Valley part of the Shiga Kogen ski area, making for an easy...

Villa Alpen is a great place to ski from in Shigakogen. The Captain and his son Ken speak great English and always try to oblige any requests promptly. The 'Real Captain" Hiroko is a wonderful cook and kept us guessing every night with new dishes. Real Japanese home cooking! The access to the slopes could not be easier and the...

We recently stayed at Villa Alpen and really enjoyed our stay. The hospitality was fantastic, the captain and his team are more than happy to help where they can. The food was great, we had no complaints at all. The location was fantastic for ski-ing but as you will read there is no night life in the area but after...
