Detailed Reviews
The property was nice, everything seemed new. I have no complaints about the property. However becareful of the shark timeshare sales people. They seem to be affiliated with Terramar residence Club. As you check in they sign you up for the preentation.
The other weird thing is that I never saw anything that said Terramar Residence Club: no signs, no badges, no paraphenilia.
Other than that. I had a good time. Accomodations were nice and I really enjoyed Costa Rica. I would stay here again

We exchanged our timshare to stay for a week in Terramar Residence Club. We had spent a week on the Carribean side prior to arriving there. I wish I had something different to report, but sadly I don't. The check-in process was about getting you signed up for "the tour" which is a sales pitch for their residence club. We agreed to go as we have owned our timeshare for approximately 12 years and have had pretty good success with it and minimal issues. We have only stayed at our home resort once and trade every year. The breakfast was mediocore at best, the waitress seemed completely annoyed to have to wait tables and wasborderline rude. The Playas de Las Palmas Group covers your breakfast, but asks you to tip the rude staff! Maybe it's just me, but I found it odd that I had a bunch of Americans trying to sell me a "Residence Club Fractional Ownership" (since timeshare is an offensive word now) with not one Costa Rican sales person in sight. We didn't think the product was bad, but we are happy with what we have and did not want to put money out again. The staff were professional and once we said no, they didn't push us. They did quickly conclude "the tour" (never showed us anything except the inside of the Platinum Club!) and sent us back to El Pueblito Sur and introduced us to another guy who tried to sell us a vacation club membership for $2799 U.S. to guarantee hotel, rental car and airfare discounts. We didn't buy that either. We were interested in seeing what they had to offer, but that was where it ended for us. It's a personal choice. They did give us a discount on a couple tours we chose to do later in the week.
The Playas de Las Palmas Group put us into the Miramar (Jade) complex which is the older complex, next door. It is always nice to get what you pay/trade for and we did not feel we did. The suite and furnishings were run down, the sink leaked all over the floor and there were no tea towels to be had and no dishwasher. The description is misleading as it shows "common laundry facilities" which is not accurate. The on-site laundry is for OWNERS and long-term residents only, not short stay or timeshare. There is NO on site laundry and if you need it, you have to send it out to a laundry service which cost us about $16 U.S. for 2 bags. It was about an 8 hour turn around which was fairly decent.
There were plenty of amenities within the immediate area, which the staff told us nothing about. The airport shuttle was $60, same price as the taxi. Common sense tells me if you are trying to promote your area as a premier tourist destination, you may want to provide just a little bit of information about what the area has to offer. Business sense tells me if you want me to invest in your real estate product, show me the best you have to offer, not the worst in order to convince me it is worth buying. In both cases I believe they fell extremely short. I am in no hurry to return and I would recommend people stay in another location. Playa del Coco beach was windy and not very inviting so we spent most of the time in the pool. We did find the Pacific side of the country less expensive than the Carribean side and the food seemed better. If you are eating out, you can expect to spend $60-$100 on average for a family of 4.

My experience at Terramar residence club was great! I was there from the 22-29 of August. Our trip started coming out of the airport which were greeted by Matt who works for the resort. He warned us about not exchanging money at the airport because it is a ripoff! He also booked us on the hotel shuttle which is much cheaper then taking a 60 dollar taxi one way, contact Carolina (who is very knowledgeable and can answer any of your questions) before you come on vacation to get a cheap round trip shuttle, email her at info@cocoadventures.com. Upon arriving at the hotel we were greeted by friendly staff who helped us check in and locate our room. We actually got into the room early since check in was not till 4:00 pm. The room was very modern yet simple. The rooms are nothing fancy (not like our 5 star resort in Aruba) but definitely much nicer then expected and had everything we needed. For the week, I was here it was one of the nicest condos I found in the area. I did not like that there was no television in the bedroom, only a few english speaking channels, and no internet in the room. There are many pools through out the area you can use. The volcanic sand beach is not my favorite but really loved the small town and the bars! Really nice beaches nearby with white sand and great snorkeling! We also did lots of great tours! We got a good discount with going to the presentation, saved over 200 dollars with the tours we booked! Our favorites were Monteverde Ziplinning which is a must do, the Catamaran, and the full day Arenal tour. Overall my experience at Terramar was very good, my favorite thing was the people and the tours. A good place to stay. Make sure you check out the Sunsets in Coco they are amazing!

We stayed here for 7 days (this place is affiliated with Miramar, Bahia Turquesa, Coco Sunset, and Playas de la Palmas Developments). The condo itself is decent; brand new and updated, spacious, fully furnished and AC, with nice grounds and a pool. The front desk staff seem nice and helpful. That is, until they tried to steal over $10,000 from us. DO NOT attend the presentation they push you into - the group of scam artists involved have their mitts into half of Coco. It would appear everyone is involved in it....and we ran into a dozen tourists who all fell for it within a 1-week period (all losing from $3,000 to over $10,000). The unlucky suckers are also warned by these scammers not to talk about their "deal", as it is so good, and talking about it will void their contract (not true). This is why no one finds out until they get home from their vacation that they just gave a bogus company $5,000, and they receive no service or product for it. And surprise - all of a sudden you can't contact them! Watch out for Matt, Tom, Joe, Caroline, Amy, Brent, Deborah, Martin....they're all in on it.
Do yourself a favour...research "Playas del Coco scam" or "Playas de la Palmas scam" (or any other creative search) and you can read all about it. This whole situation made us leave Coco and we would never return...so sketchy and slimey. Just don't attend ANY presentation in this area....and please do help others - tell anyone that will listen the same, so they don't get sucked in. These jerks did not get one dollar from us (we cancelled our charges and cards immediately), but it was horrible watching so many others potentially lose their savings. Turns out they are good at what they do....many ppl who own lots of timeshares and have been through these presentations and were skeptical all got robbed. Smart ppl who got roped in.
I wouldn't even stay here.

The Terramar complex is a mix of time share guests and long term residences and the condo was clean, new and a 10 minute walk from town. The front desk staff were much more focused on getting you to sign up for the time share breakfast than greeting us for our week long stay. The whole check-in seemed unwelcoming, shady and felt like checking in to a dorm room with a inventory list of items.
Basics like washcloths, beach towels, dish soap and hair dryers were hard to come by or simply not available. The uncomfortably firm mattress with box springs you couldn't ignore, the lack of a hand rail on the staircase and no tub in either the bathroom were all adjustments we had to make. Workers outside painting and welding made it feel like a complex that was under a mass renovation.
We did meet some great people from US, Canada and Spain in our complex by the pool. Guests had similar complaints about the mattresses, musty smell in rooms, the lack of a hotel reception feel, shady time share talk and no restaurant or bar by any of the pools.
Costa Rica was absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed each day trip to see different parts of the country. We went on a sunset sailing tour with Coco Tours and saw whales, sting rays and dolphins and stopped at a small beach to go snorkeling. Guancaste Viejas Tours picked us up at the airport and we hired them for the Palo Verde river tour and for a beach tour of Playa Portrero, Flamingo and Tamarindo. We enjoyed lots of great seafood (red snapper, mahi mahi and lobster). The town has lots of trinket shops and restaurants.

Just returned home from my awesome vacation at Terramar Residence club in Playas del Coco, Costa Rica. It is a new facilty, so everything still had that "New" feel to it. My room was nice and clean with everything I needed. Pool was right outside my door with chairs to lay on, which was nice and relaxing. The staff their were so helpful and answered all my questions I had throughout my week and even helped me with directions to other nice beaches around the area...Coco beach is dark sand isn't the nicest and cleanest beach around, but there are beautiful white sand beaches close by (Playa Flamingo, Playa Conchal, Tamarindo). I went on a great tour up to Monteverde, where I got to walk around through the cloud/rain forest on hanging bridges and do some extreme zip-lining. They told me it was the best zip lining in all of Costa Rica and now I can see why! It's definitely a must do.
I'd recommend this resort, but also I suggest seeing some of the beautiful country by taking the excursions they have to offer. If you're hesitant about taking this trip, DON'T BE! Costa Rica is one of the best countries I have traveled to.

we were recently in Del Coco at the above accommodations. The accommodations were not the greatest but my reason for writing was to mention what happened to me on the beach in broad daylight. I was mugged by two young Costa Ricans and had my Nexus 7 tablet stolen from me. We had been told it was a safe area. wrong so beware of you decide to go to Del Coco. Plus the beach is basically volcanic ash and full of rocks, not a nice beach at all.

We exchanged our timeshare with RCI for our first trip to Costa Rica! We stayed at Terramar and had a great trip! The unit was brand new, so it was very clean. We stayed in a two bedroom and two bathroom townhouse. The master bedroom and bathroom are located upstairs with a small balcony which over looks the pool. The guest bedroom and bathroom are located downstairs which was perfect for my children who had there own space. The kitchen was small but had everything you need to cook for yourself even though we went out most of the time. We felt very safe in the area, there were many security guards on the premise during the whole trip. The people who worked at the resort were really great! They had great tour suggestions and very knowledgable about the area! Carolina and Amy were great! We really recommended to do the Monteverde zip-linning tour, Nicaragua tour, and the sunset sailing! The town of Coco is very small but it has great shopping and some fun bars. On our down days, we enjoyed the beach club and just lounging by the pools. Our only complaint was that we had some small bugs in our room the first two mornings. We were told it was because it is rainy season and the ants try to come in after it rains. We told the reception and they came and sprayed outside the condo and we had no bug problems for the remainder of the week. Overall we had a fantastic trip and loved Costa Rica! We will defiantly be returning again next year!

Poor place to say. I would recommend trying another place. There was no water in the mornings until around 10am. The AC in the master bedroom did not work for 3 day and they never fixed it during our stay. The bed mattress was in very poor condition.
On the brighter side, the staff was very nice and the food at the restaurant was great.
We can recommend an outstanding tour company: Mardigi Tours.
Below is our review of Mardigi:
Wonderful staff and fantastic tours! They provided outstanding service on all tours and even provided transportation to and from the airport with stops for grocery shopping. Mark and Marvin are amazing tour guides who are extremely knowledgeable about all of the animal and plants throughout Costa Rica. They are very friendly and easy to talk to, I felt comfortable asking them questions. I cannot say enough good things about them and Mardigi Tours.
We went on the following tours, Rincon De La Vieja Adventure Tour , Discover Nicaragua, Palo Verde National Parks, and a two day tour of Monteverde Skywalk and Arenal Volcano, which included an additional tour of the rainforest at night. The tours were unbelievably beautiful, fun, and exciting; it was like experiencing a nature documentary in real life.
Thanks to them, everyone in our family (both teenagers and adults) had an outstanding vacation in Costa Rica.

We just returned home from our trip to Playas del Coco in Costa Rica. We arrived in the evening and had a little bit of trouble finding the reception area but were able to ask for directions from the locals who were very helpful. Our room was a good fit for our family of four, we had a good size kitchen and a small patio right in front of the pool whwich was perfect for our kids. The employees at the reception office were a great help with all of our different questions and our concierge, Amy I believe her name was, helped us book all of our excursions for the week. I would definitely suggest the Guacipelin (sp?) tour, my husband, kids and I had a great time. The tour included horseback riding, watertubing in the river and ziplining. Also, they served a typical Costa Rican lunch with included fresh fruit, salads and the typical Costa Rican dish, casada. We were asked to attend the timeshare presentation so that we could have acces to the beach club and discounts to the restaurants. The presentation was a typical timeshare presentation, lasted about an hour and half, was worth it to use the beach club for the week. Overall we had a good experience, good people, great time with the family!
