We stayed a week at the Bahia Turquesa. Our first concern was that the name of the resort had changed prior to our arrival which raised some concerns. Upon arrival we were rudely greeted by staff. Apparently the two staff had a quarrel, and one stormed out as we were walking in and the other was still fussing. And even told us at one point that "I don't have time for this" . Immediately we were on the phone with interval attempting to book another location. We ended up staying because Interval told us other resorts were booked for the days we were staying. We had to wait for our concierge to check us in, which took him an hour to arrive. Afterwards we were invited to a "free" breakfast to get discounts on our excursions. Upon arriving to the room it was neat and clean, but the safe was locked. We were informed that they would send someone back up to fix the safe that day (he did not return for 2 days). I noticed that my bed was broken, we attempted to contact staff, as did Interval, and was not able to contact them until the next day, despite them not closing until 9pm. We attended the breakfast which was a timeshare presentation, which we had already been warned about. through previous reviews we learned it was a scam, and they have been telling guest they were going to build this resort since about 2013. We were not given a discount on our excursions as promised, which further agitated us. We talked with our concierge who informed us that he would have the bed fixed, and the safe opened. The person did not come to fix the bed until the last night we were there, and reported he did not have the tools to fix the bed until after we left. Thank goodness they had a couch bed. Our third day there we went over to the concierge, and informed them that our AC was leaking. Woke up to a big puddle of water. That was not fixed until day 4 at about 7 in the evening. And despite them saying that you have free WIFI, it is only available when you sit at the pool. Despite all the issues with accommodations, We were located near the beach, and had a great opportunity to experience the culture within the locale community. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this resort to anyone as you would spend more time worrying about accommodations than enjoying yourself. They really have to do better.

Perhaps previous years were under different ownership or management, but I we did not have the same experience in August 2015 as other travelers. Although the offer to have a 'free breakfast' for a $20 refundable fee was pushed, we simply turned it down realizing it was a sales pitch typical of all time-shares stateside. The 2 bedroom/2 story condo was very clean, exactly what we needed. We didn't spend much time there, and when we did it was on the huge upstairs porch that overlooked the hillsides. The pool was refreshing and clean. The staff at the main office was WONDERFUL (thank you Elisa). They helped call taxi's, offered restaurant suggestions (the LOOKOUT!!), free wifi spot, and with use of their phone when we had to contact our airline. If you are looking for posh luxury (fluffy towel, spa's, turn down service), you probably would appreciate an upscale hotel directly on the beach more. For those looking for a great home-base for when you return from exciting adventures in Costa Rica, this place and town is perfect.

Timeshare room was nice but not on the beach or was access easy. Construction noise was unbearable. The worst part was the agent for RCI who met us and got us our key, set us up for a vacation rental purchase scam. Please please do not get caught in this.

Poor place to say. I would recommend trying another place. There was no water in the mornings until around 10am. The AC in the master bedroom did not work for 3 day and they never fixed it during our stay. The bed mattress was in very poor condition. On the brighter side, the staff was very nice and the food at the restaurant was great. We can recommend an outstanding tour company: Mardigi Tours. Below is our review of Mardigi: Wonderful staff and fantastic tours! They provided outstanding service on all tours and even provided transportation to and from the airport with stops for grocery shopping. Mark and Marvin are amazing tour guides who are extremely knowledgeable about all of the animal and plants throughout Costa Rica. They are very friendly and easy to talk to, I felt comfortable asking them questions. I cannot say enough good things about them and Mardigi Tours. We went on the following tours, Rincon De La Vieja Adventure Tour , Discover Nicaragua, Palo Verde National Parks, and a two day tour of Monteverde Skywalk and Arenal Volcano, which included an additional tour of the rainforest at night. The tours were unbelievably beautiful, fun, and exciting; it was like experiencing a nature documentary in real life. Thanks to them, everyone in our family (both teenagers and adults) had an outstanding vacation in Costa Rica. Visited July 2014

We exchanged our timshare to stay for a week in Terramar Residence Club. We had spent a week on the Carribean side prior to arriving there. I wish I had something different to report, but sadly I don't. The check-in process was about getting you signed up for "the tour" which is a sales pitch for their residence club. We agreed to go as we have owned our timeshare for approximately 12 years and have had pretty good success with it and minimal issues. We have only stayed at our home resort once and trade every year. The breakfast was mediocore at best, the waitress seemed completely annoyed to have to wait tables and wasborderline rude. The Playas de Las Palmas Group covers your breakfast, but asks you to tip the rude staff! Maybe it's just me, but I found it odd that I had a bunch of Americans trying to sell me a "Residence Club Fractional Ownership" (since timeshare is an offensive word now) with not one Costa Rican sales person in sight. We didn't think the product was bad, but we are happy with what we have and did not want to put money out again. The staff were professional and once we said no, they didn't push us. They did quickly conclude "the tour" (never showed us anything except the inside of the Platinum Club!) and sent us back to El Pueblito Sur and introduced us to another guy who tried to sell us a vacation club membership for $2799 U.S. to guarantee hotel, rental car and airfare discounts. We didn't buy that either. We were interested in seeing what they had to offer, but that was where it ended for us. It's a personal choice. They did give us a discount on a couple tours we chose to do later in the week. The Playas de Las Palmas Group put us into the Miramar (Jade) complex which is the older complex, next door. It is always nice to get what you pay/trade for and we did not feel we did. The suite and furnishings were run down, the sink leaked all over the floor and there were no tea towels to be had and no dishwasher. The description is misleading as it shows "common laundry facilities" which is not accurate. The on-site laundry is for OWNERS and long-term residents only, not short stay or timeshare. There is NO on site laundry and if you need it, you have to send it out to a laundry service which cost us about $16 U.S. for 2 bags. It was about an 8 hour turn around which was fairly decent. There were plenty of amenities within the immediate area, which the staff told us nothing about. The airport shuttle was $60, same price as the taxi. Common sense tells me if you are trying to promote your area as a premier tourist destination, you may want to provide just a little bit of information about what the area has to offer. Business sense tells me if you want me to invest in your real estate product, show me the best you have to offer, not the worst in order to convince me it is worth buying. In both cases I believe they fell extremely short. I am in no hurry to return and I would recommend people stay in another location. Playa del Coco beach was windy and not very inviting so we spent most of the time in the pool. We did find the Pacific side of the country less expensive than the Carribean side and the food seemed better. If you are eating out, you can expect to spend $60-$100 on average for a family of 4.
