We stayed at the Kur Plaza Pirika by accident. We really wanted to stay at the mountain hut Yamanoie, but it has been closed. The Kur Plaza is on highway 230 by the Pirika Lake. It is the only large place to stay in the area. It looks castle-esque, is pinkish, and we were not sure about it until we went inside. It is a fine place to stay; the Japanese-style rooms are clean and recently renovated. The ￥7530 a person price, including supper and breakfast, is reasonable. The price is ￥4750 without meals. We enjoyed the evening meal. Breakfast was unremarkable. There is a ski slope and lift behind the inn, and this may explain the funky exterior design. The inn has a wonderful hot spring area that is open for those who are not staying overnight, and the restaurant also caters to outside visitors. Given that there is not much around the inn and no real reason to come to the area, I asked at the front about the clientele. I was told that many people who stay are business travelers, including seasonal road workers. We would stay again if we were in the area. Visited 9/13/2017…
