Marukin Ryokan is family owned very friendly. Even thought it is named "Ryokan" but actually have both Japanese style room with Tatami and western style room with bed, it is kind of hybrid of Japanese Ryokan and western hotel. In winter season, Marukin ryokan is great base to enjoy skiing, about 5 minutes walk to Nakiyama lift and 10 minutes...

I would say the hotel is just normal. Clean of course, with free Wi-Fi everywhere. The food was not great. The hotel is within walking distance to one of the chairlift of the Happo ski resort. However, if you need to visit others ski fields like Goryu or Iwatake, you need to walk 10 minutes to catch the shuttle buses...

This is the first time I ski in Hakuba, a brillant small village famous of skiing. I booked the hotel via a Hong Kong travelling agency specialized in skiing trips. The hotel, with two wings and 5 storey, is solely run by one family, and you can see the family members work very hard day and night to manage around...
