Five keen skiers from Australia stayed for a week in this lovely inn. The warm greeting and wonderful service made our Hakuba holiday perfect. The family who own and run the inn are delightful and ever helpful The food delicious with great breakfasts and the evening meals were a treat. I can't recommend it highly enough.

I could not rate this place highly enough. Skala is a beautiful guesthouse that is incredibly welcoming. It really does feel like a home away from home. Our hosts were amazing. They made us feel so at home and helped us with any queries we had. They offered us lifts to town to collect ski gear from the hire shop...

We stayed at Skala as part of a general self guided tour of Japan, and of all the places we stayed Skala stands head and shoulders above the rest. As westerners in Japan, we knew that high service levels are normal. Skala raised the standard, with impeccable, friendly service, great facilities and amazing food. Everyone, from the Japanese family that...

Osamu & family is the heart of this setup. Their sincere hospitality & helpfulness is priceless in today's world. Great dinner every night only for hotel guests. Lodge is basic, but has a cozy feel like home. Nice public bath to ease your aches end of the day. Short walk to echo land & shuttle bus stops. To sum it...

Excellent lodge set-up for snow sports with easy access to dry room, which connects to the main house. Rooms are clean and temperature of the house is kept very comfortable, even on a cold snow-storming night. The fire place made the hall a great venue for friends to hang out for drinks every night, while the Friday nights jamming sessions...

After a great deal of Trip Advisor research we settled on Grove Inn Skala, particularly because of the food reviews and friendly, helpful service that was frequently mentioned. We run a ski lodge ourselves in Falls Creek, Victoria, Australia so our expectations were high. We were not disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed our week's stay here. It was a pleasant surprise...

We only stayed at Grove in Skala two nights between Christmas and New Years, for a day trip to see Snow Monkeys, and we totally loved the place. Owners and staff were so warm and welcoming, we really felt looked after. We were soooo sad to leave because we were really feeling at home in this lovely place. :)

If you would rather not read a lengthy story about my experience at Skala, and are wondering whether you should stay there, you can stop now and jump on whatever booking platform you are using and go ahead and book it. I really can't recommend Skala enough. From the moment we set foot out of the Hakuba station when Osamu...
