The Maruni family is very friendly and helpful! They recommended a snowboarding rental place to me, which gave me a discount because I was recommended by the ryokan. They also offer discounted lift tickets, which were quite a bargain. Room and onsen are basic but functionally and rather tastefully decorated. Best surprise was the dinners! Which is optional, but such...

I have stayed at a number of places in this region and this place was the best - by far!! The family run Ryokan is located in the centre of Happo - not far from the travel centre. The family members spoke little English - but this added to the fun. They literally could not do enough for us. We...

My family and I had a great experience staying at this family run Ryoken. The room was well appointed in the traditional style, the staff set up the beds at night, and the hearty breakfast (Japanese and Western; your choice) was prepared with great care and hospitality. Wonderful view of the snow covered mountains from the room! The family owners...

This was a wonderful ryokan. Shino and her family do a great job in making you feel welcome and at home in their ryokan. The onsen is nice, and the rooms are traditional Japanese rooms with a comfortable bed and nice views of the mountain. The morning I left, Shino prepared a bento box for me because she knew I...

This family-owned ryokan is a true representation of omotenashi! Situated just 5 min walk from the Happo Bus Terminal, this is an excellent place to stay in Hakuba if you are looking to ski around this area. We had initially planned to walk from the bus terminal to the ryokan on arrival but as it was cold and snowing heavily...

The hospitality of the ryokan owners blew us away! We arrived at happo bus terminal without a connecting bus to maruni ryokan and it was snowing heavily. Made a call to the ryokan and the ojisan drove to pick us up! Besides that, they were very hospitable, and made us feel at home with the complimentary Christmas cake on Christmas...

We travelled as a family of 4 first-time skiiers not knowing exactly what to expect. Maruyama-san and his family at this wonderful little family-run inn did a fantastic job of looking after us. Apart from picking us up from the bus terminal on arrival and dropping us back when we were leaving, there were multiple occasions when they (Maruyama-san, his...

The family and staff here went above and beyond for us during our 4 night stay, running us to and from the station, calling and checking snow lifts for us, and always being willing to have a friendly chat. The accom itself was exceedingly comfortable, and having the onsen after a hard day on the slopes was a dream! 10...

To start, let me just say that staying at this ryokan should a no-brainer for the majority of people. The only exception may be those expecting a 4- or 5-star Western-style hotel, and aren't open to alternatives: if that's you, then give this a skip. Everyone else, read on... I was skiing/snowboarding with my brother, and we were in Hakuba...

This hotel is well situated five mins walk from the bottom of happo-one slopes. The staff are charming and attentive, and kindly offered to drive us to and from Hakuba station either side of our stay. The rooms are spacious and the futon mattresses are quite soft compared with some Ryokans in Japan! Only suggestion would be a choice of...
