Our stay at this ryokan was the highlight of our new years Japan trip. The service was what made this place so special. They went above and beyond to help you in any way they could. The rooms are nice and big the futons are very comfortable and have really nice warm duvets. We had the Japanese breakfast everyday and...

we had wonderful time at Tokiwaya ryokan. The hosts are super discreet and super nice! We stayed 6 nights; day time on ski, late afternoon on walking in the village, and the highlight of this ryokan is its super ofuros; you got 5: 3 in a room and 2 others in an other. Very good quality of O-Yu & good...

Great hotel with fantastic onsen. I stayed with friends and the hotel could not be better situated. Maybe overpriced but I guess they all are in nozawa. They alternate between western and Japanese breakfasts, miso is always nice but fishy fish anytime is not for me but the breakfast is an experience in itself. Staff could not be more helpful...

Comfortable war beds rolled out daily on tatami floors. The staff had limited English but still provided excellent friendly service, could not be more helpful. Beautiful Japanese rooms. Lovely onsen, not too hot for beginners/ tourists, the public onsen next door and around Nozawa are extremely hot if you need more! Perfect location. Breakfast was an amazing experience, in a...

We can throughly recommend this accommodation if you would like to get a feeling for the traditions of Japan. Kimonos are worn throughout the hotel. The spa baths are fantastic, staff very friendly and helpful, food delicious and served in your own private dining room. Fantastic experience to stay here!

This Ryokan or Japanese inn, does everything to make you feel welcome. The service is impeccable but not intrusive. Beautifully decorated, with a shrine in the lobby, and an onsen with three baths and statues. The food is excellent, but Western breakfasts are not up to the same standard. At dinner we were given a private tatami dining room. Ski...

Not a lot of snow when we got here. But there is now a metre of snow over night and still snowing. Great spectacle watching the local men drag two trees through the streets yesterday for the fire festival on this weekend. Tokiwaya Ryokan is very comfortable and on the main village street. Just about every room booked by westerners....

I am actually conflicted in reviewing this Hotel because I don't want to criticize it in any way but...! Let me start in saying that the hospitality and service at this hotel is nothing short of exceptional (special mention to Kyoko) and the location is perfect! If you want to experience an authentic Japanese hotel go no further. Breakfast alone...

We stayed in this Ryokan, with its nearly 400 years history one night. Very friendly staff, exceptionally well located, a pleasant stay. You will be in the heart of this picturesque hot springs village.

Very hospitable, traditional accommodation, friendly, everything in order. We enjoyed the breakfasts and the clockwork timing of everything. It's a little old but has that special charm of a ryokan. Be prepared for minimalist accommodation, bedding that appears whilst you're out for dinner and disappears when at breakfast. The hotel also has its own onsen, though the town itself has...
