The Nozawa Onsen was truly one of the best hotel experiences I've had. Mainly because, as noted by several reviewers, the owners are more like family than owners. To share, I fractured my ankle while staying at Utopia. In the morning, the owner insisted that I go to the doctor and drove me there and back personally 2 days in...

We stayed for a few days in the Utopia B&B and had a great time in Nozawa. The authentic japanese style rooms are very charming and we enjoyed our stay very much. The Utopia is downtown Nozawa and just a few minutes walk up to the Gondola Station.

The hotel appeared very simple on our first impression, but we were soon feeling very thankful and impressed by the warmth of the host and staff, the cleanliness of the room, the location of hotel: about 8-10 minutes walk on ski boots to ski station, 2 min's dash across the tiny road to opposite where onsen is located, simply in...

The owners and staff are amazing here... super friendly and welcoming. Although the snow was below par this year when we visited the staff offered plenty of alternatives. The rooms are basic... but they are as the japanese have so it is worth experiencing. With an onsen at the hotel and another 20m from the front door you can't go...

My wife and I just spent 4 wonderful days at Utopia. Kaori and Tomi were very helpful and provided many special tips on general inforormation about Nozawa Onsen. Kaori also helped organise a snow monkey trip for us and knew that we were going to Kyoto and helped us find the quickest way there and provided us a timetable in...

At first sight, we felt a bit uncomfortable for it's stuffiness, the run-down look, the not very inviting halls, shared bathrooms and the fact, that there are hotel-wide announcements to get up at 7.15 am (!). But, in the course of our 4-nights-stay, it changed 100% and we can recommend the place for the western-style breakfast option, the convenient location...

The Really Good: Japanese breakfasts were hearty, varied and tasty! They provided a good start each morning before we hit the slopes. Torii and husband were wonderful and their support staff were experienced and helpful as well. Japan-style bathroom facilities were well maintained, and we looked forward to the in-house onsen at the end of each day skiing. But Take...

On our second visit to Nozawaonsen we had the pleasure of staying at this wonderful ryokan. Not only is Utopia in a great location with a public Onsen at the end of the street a mere 20m from the front door and a 2 min walk to the Main Street, the hosts are absolutely delightful. They are extemely helpful and...

We booked this hotel based on Tripadvisor's review. Nozawa Onsen is a charming onsen / skiresort and the hotel is in a good location. It is a traditionel hotel with shared bathroom, that some may need to get used too. However, if you emerse yourself in the onsen culture, sleeping on futon and eating the Japanese breakfast you will be...

Our family of five stayed at Utopia in mid-January based on positive TripAdvisor reviews and we weren't disappointed. Utopia is a simple, traditional Japanese inn. We stayed in their superior room which was large enough to accommodate all of us. As other reviewers have noted, mattresses are laid on the tatami mat floors. You have the choice of leaving them...
