Detailed Reviews
This hotel is up on a mountain. Skiing in the winter and golf otherwise. Very nice place, fresh air and fun. The hotel has lots of nice things for kinds to do, family friendly staff and policies. The building is rather old though. Nicely maintained, small but clean room. The indoor hotspring was not so nice. The outside one is pretty good.
1st floor restaurant was nice, buffet breakfast and dinner. Serves lunch too. The top floor restaurant didn't feel that comfortable to us, although I guess people like to view.
Minakami Kogen Hotel 200 was fun, but line-ups for elevators were painful at times.
Also when we arrive the dinner time presented to us was 19:30. The clerk asked us if that was OK, but when I said no there was no other option, so he asked us if that was OK again, which I replied no, but there was no option. So why ask us if it is OK? 19:30 is late for children. We were even there at check-in time so not sure why there was such a late option only.
When in the area I suggest visiting Takaragawa Onsen. Really nice onsen experience.

We had a wonderful stay at Minakami Kogen and our children keep asking when we can go back!
We stayed 4 nights midweek in ski season with a 5 and 8yo.
Hotel staff helpful and responsive to emails. Booking the shuttle from Jomo Kogen station was fast and easy. Staff were lovely and helpful in person too, most spoke English and they had translate as well.
Connecting corner room was spacious by Japanese standards (we locked the corridor door which gave us a large suitcase space and room to get snow gear on and off).
Food (buffet restaurant) was excellent. Lots of variety and each food had clearly marked allergens which made selection easy (we are pescetarian and don't eat meat and there were lots of delicious options). We didn't have problems with availability of early dinner times except on our first day.
Both indoor and outdoor onsen were great. We didn't find the walk across the carpark to the outdoor onsen a problem and it was usually very quiet, sometimes we had the bath to ourselves. My children find some onsen too hot, but the outdoor one was perfect because it had two sections, one hotter and one cooler.
Snow activities were excellent. We could generally choose an activity, walk up to the desk and book to do it right away. One of the days we bought a lift pass and used the long 500m sled run which was excellent and it was fun to be able to ride the chairlift even though we didn't ski or board. The kids parks were great too, the tubing and sledding was good fun and never crowded.
We did the Takaragawa onsen excursion through the hotel and enjoyed it. (Mixed gender, clothed bath along a scenic river).
Overall, this hotel far exceeded our expectations and we really enjoyed our stay. Would stay here again.

My family and I stayed here every winter. The rooms were not clean, but the main reason we stayed here was because there was a nursery. The kids enjoyed the buffet, and it was very convenient to be connected to the ski resort. We thought this would become an annual event, but we were told that the nursery can only be used by children up to 4 years old, so now that our child is 5 years old, we can't use it. It seems that preschool children who can't ski are not eligible to stay. Goodbye to hotels that can only provide mechanical service.

+1
I stayed at this hotel for a tour of Ozegahara, and it was very convenient and friendly. We thought the trekking to Ozegahara would be canceled because of the rain, but it was light rain in the morning, so we decided to go ahead with it. We traveled from the hotel by minibus, and by the end of the tour, we were completely exhausted, and even our trekking shoes and the inside of our backpacks under our raincoats were soaked, but it was very helpful that we could use the hot springs at the hotel on the way back. The buffet-style meals were also varied, and dinner included sushi, steak, tempura, sashimi, curry, and Chinese food, so much that we couldn't finish it all. Breakfast was also satisfying for both me, who prefers bread and Western food, and my wife, who prefers Japanese food.

Great stay at this resort - I learned to ski along with my two daughters in elementary school. We did a full day lesson and the instructors were fantastic. We parked our van and took the shuttle from the Jomo Kogen shinkansen station. The drive up to the resort was quite beautiful. The room had a really nice view of the mountains and the outdoor onsen was beautiful. The buffet dinner and breakfast were great; there is also an a la carte ramen restaurant.

When we arrived, no one at the front desk spoke any English at all. They fumbled through explaining in Japanese and the other three people working giggled at us for not understanding. The room is pretty average. When choosing dinner you have two options, both terrible - ¥6500 for Italian food (who goes to Japan for Italian food...) or ¥4600 for a buffet each person. The buffet was the worst food I have ever had in Japan and was highly disappointing as it was the most I have paid for a meal. Everything was old and tasteless, there was a large selection of terrible food, even the Japanese food was under-flavoured and made us both feel sick.
No one spoke a word of English, so why we were able to book in English, I guess is just for them to make money.
I won't stay here again

Travel_Luver_89 like Thank you for coming. First, about the front desk. We are really sorry. We gave you the unpleasant feeling at the front desk because of our staff. You thought our staff giggled at you, but we were not doing that. It is because we teach all of staff that the most important thing as a hotel staff is smile, so staffs are always smiling. In this time, we think you feel so because our staffs couldn't speak English. Primary, at the hotel, it must not happen like this problem about language. We have only few forreigners a year, so our education about communication with English is really behind. Therefore, we happened this problem, so we apologize to give you the unpleasant feeling. Second, about the restaurant. In this time, our restaurant's meal wasn't suit your taste, we apologize. Our restaurant's meal is made by Japanese chefs both restaurant. That mean, taste is fitted Japanese people. the food of Kanto area is the strongest taste in Japan. Our hotel is also in Kanto, so the taste is strong for Japanese. However, Australian food has stronger taste than Japanese food, so you feel no taste, we think. Would you please understand about it? However, if you come again, we will cook the food which you emjoy eating. In this time, we doesn't explain these things before you come, so you shocked our service. We are sorry. Lastly, we have really few foreign customers, so we don't improve education about globalization. In this time, we feel inexperienced strongly. We reeducate all of staffs and we promise not to happen like same problem and we should improve our service quality higher. We are glad you'll come again. We are looking forward to seeing you again. Travelled during winter with family (2 kids). Corner family room provides a very good mountain views. Heater in the room helped us during a cold windy snowy night.
Restaurant have provided good variety of meals and taste delicious.
Snow activities are plenty with affordable prices. Don't forget to try the onsen, nice experience. Shuttle bus to station is really helpful.
Only missed out is there's no in-room wifi, please be prepared of your own cellphone signal.

We have stayed here regularly for years and years. It just keeps getting better. I see negative comments on the buffet that I would completely reject. It is a Japanese hotel so I would not expect a lot of english being spoken. Not sure that's a negative as everyone is absolutely there to sincerely help. There is a huge diversity of buffet choices and responsive, welcoming service. We have used the Italian restaurant up top on multiple occasions. All the food is locally sourced. The Japanese influence on the food is wonderful and we are always taking pictures as it's so beautifully presented.
Ski tickets, rentals and lessons are reasonably priced. Equipment is good. Lift lines are nonexistent and the instructors are some of the friendliest I've ever encountered. Our 4 kids learned to ski here and love it. There are also 2 outdoor play areas for kids including sleigh riding/tubing and magic carpets to carry you back up.
The skiing area is small but the terrain is quite varied and includes a sleigh riding trail running aside the beginner trail. The lift operators help kids get on and off with great care.
In the summer the list of activities only starts at golf and tennis. There are also sorts of activities for kids plus a pool in August and hiking galore everywhere. There is no interruption of site lines by anything manmade (aside from the hotel) in any direction. It's truly an escape.
In any season the focus on kids and service is just wonderful.
If there is one issue it would be there is a limited program for dropping kids for the day. There is a nursery for babies (up to 6 but really not much use past age 2). The resort is largely designed for families who plan to be with their kids playing all day.
Apres ski is also limited as the again the focus in really on families.
