The room had calming views of the gardens. Staying here is seemingly structured without the regimen feeling overbearing. It was wonderful to finish our dinner, have a bath and then find our futons set for us. The vegan Shojin Ryori meals are superb and the room was quiet. The shared bath facilities are basic but I hardly saw anyone using... More

Ekoin Temple offers a reasonably priced stay considering the costs of other accommodation in the area. For ¥12500/night, it was good that meals were included in the total cost as restaurants in the area are few and far between. Sadly, however, the meals weren’t particularly tasty or appealing. All food served is vegetarian, but I was not fussed on any... More

Wow. This was perfect. Everything about this location is exactly how we wanted it to be. The beauty of the temple stops you in your tracks. The monks who run the temple are so friendly. The food was amazing. The entire experience was the highlight of two weeks in Japan. Thank you eko in!!

A trip to Koyasan and temple stay is a must if you time and budget allow. The area is beautiful. Ekoin is an easy and helpful temple to stay at. The experience is very curated. The staff speaks great English and there are volunteers from around the world who may help staff things.

We stayed in Ekoin for one night after having travelled around Japan for 3 weeks. It takes few modes of transport to get to Koyasan itself but once you're there it's well worth the effort. Ekoin was one of many shukubo in the area (a temple that also offers accommodation)but it stood out for us when we booked it because... More

Going to Koya-San is in itself a highlight of a trip to Kansai region. This temple to stay in was really nice, the night time walk through the famous cemetary was amazing and our guide friendly and informative. The morning meditation and fire ceremony are special. We were in a room at the top and back. Sleeping on the floor,... More

Wow what a place. Beautiful Temple in the mountains. Room was very spacious with everything you need including TV. The Monks were so accommodating and couldn't do enough for you. We would recommend the night walk to the graveyard that is organised by the Temple. One of the most peaceful experiences I have every had. Crawford family

I stayed in Ekoin as it was part of a tour I took in Japan. To be honest, I didn't know anything about Koyasan as apparently it is not a very known destination. The hotel is very well located. You can walk anywhere in Koyasan. The monks that take care of the hotel are very kind and willing to serve... More

Our stay at Eko-in was a really special experience, and probably our highlight of Japan. The temple is run by young, really friendly monks who are happy to help. We were lucky enough to go on an evening when they were running an English speaking tour of the cemetery - this was amazing and I would highly recommend it. We... More

This place is very hard to Rate, because it's definitely not the Hilton but it's not suppose to be. It's a tradition temple lodging and your there for the experience. So you will be sleeping on a futon on the floor, the quality of the futon is ok but not of high quality so you can feel the floor underneath... More
