I stayed at this hotel with my family for two nights back in July. Firstly, when I arrived I was really impressed by the quality of the food. Breakfast and dinner were included. The food was simply marvellous- the tomatoes were sweet and everything was cooked to perfection. For breakfast, there was a lot of hot, freshly baked bread to...

This is one of the best lodging we have stayed in all our visits to Japan. The place is homely and the food is superb! Breakfast comprises bread basket, unlimited coffee/tea/juice/milk, ultra fresh salad....and Dinner is even more impressive! You can double main courses of fish and beef in addition to soup, salad and a dessert platter! We enjoyed our...

This small family-run pension has been my wife's and my 'go to' spot ever since we got married, and we must have returned there over a dozen times. We've taken friends, family, even students, and they've all been blown away by it. The location is superb, with Mt Aso towering in the background, and the quaint township of Takamori is...

My husband and I are Americans living in Japan. We visited the Minami Aso area to take in the natural beauty, hike the mountains in and around the caldera, and experience some new food. Pension Angelica was the answer. Our train came in very late at night, but the pension owner met us at the train station so we wouldn't...

I have been visiting this pension for 3 years in a row. Each time, I am impressed by renewed discoveries - be it the nice bath with hot spring water, the hospitality of the family, the new menus of the delicious dishes. This time, I learned that the natural hotspring water is transported to be placed in the bath. The...

A lovely place with truly outstanding food and service. The hosts could not have been more accommodating. There is real wi-fi, everyone is friendly, and it was a restful time. Be careful with the Japanese GPS. It doesn't have the road that the hotel is on, in our case, we had to ask someone, who pointed to the Pension, which...

My friend can't stop raving about Angelica. We think if might be worth the expense and the effort just to fly to Fukuoka again, hop onto 3 changes in trains just to get to Angelica to relax, chill-out and be well-fed. The Pension is lovely and well-kept. The dining room is spacious, and its high ceiling and windows make it...

A Western style house in the fields at the southern foothills of the Aso volcano area - a good base for climbing. Flower gardens and cutesy brickwork views from the windows on one side of the house, the mountains on the other. The Shimokawa family go all out to make you so welcome, and it is a genuine welcome which...

Amazing Inn! See their website: [--] We booked through hostelworld.com on a whim and we were WOWed. Wow. Remote area, quiet, relaxing, great value. We were treated like royalty. They picked us up from the train station within minutes of our call. We arrived to the site of the inn and we started taking pictures right away. They offered to...
