Really fun onsen with many buildings full of all kinds of antiques- chests of drawers, art, dyed fabrics, toys, coins, guns and more. They have a wedding package also. Three baths - although the herb bath smelled bad to us. Food was good but not amazing.

In the total site of 7 thousand 'tubo' (apprximately 6 acres), there are seven or eight old Japanese houses which are completely renovated for the hotel in 1999, they said. Yes it is. Arriving at the main gate which are really gorgeous, stepping down stairs, passing through nice soba-restaurant, and there a museum house for old japanese closets. This collection... More

This is a relatively new place compared to many of the ryokans in Japan which have been around for decades if not centuries. I'm most impressed with the fine collection of antiques and exhibitions, large compound to explore, beautifully crafted surrounding, and the outdoor Onsen. This is without a doubt the best Ryokan Onsen ( hotspring ) to which I have ever been . It has the whole package. Ambiance - Historical Japan. We really impressed all of everything here from first step. This place made us feel like stay in very romantic dream together. It offers spacious Japanese-style accommodations with antique furniture, some boasting a private open-air hot spring bath. A free shuttle is available from JR Nakanojo Station. Guests at Hatago can unwind in a soothing private or public hot spring bath with tranquil nature views, enjoy a massage or browse the shop for souvenirs. Pets can stay free of charge, if a reservation is made in advance. Free Wi-Fi is provided at the lobby. Rooms feature a serene Japanese-Style interior with some antique pieces of furniture, 2 flat-screen TVs and a small fridge. Some rooms have an irori fireplace, 2 rooms or a wooden open-air bath with a terrace. Guests sleep in traditional futon bedding on the tatami (woven mat) floor. Japanese-style hot spring hotel Hatago is a 40-minute drive from the Kusatsu Kokusai Ski Resort and the Agatsuma Waterfall. JR Nakanojo Train Station is a 60-minute drive away.
