My husband and I booked 2 nights at Hatago to get away from Tokyo on our honeymoon trip to Japan. We booked the Nagai-juku style room that included 2x breakfast and 2x dinner and this was the best hospitality we have ever been fortunate enough to experience. The hotel is actually set out like a small village. We caught the...

This hatago, which is like a heritage resort, consists of several traditional Japanese houses. You can escape from the city and enjoy the quiet and secluded environment. There are several museums with different themes. It is quite worth to take time to visit during your stay. We stayed in a room with private bath. The room is very big and...

I was impressed by a photo which is their onsen’s waterfall view in a green summer time so I stayed here for the first time in the snowy winter 4 years ago. Recently I visited here again in the early winter, though there were no green or snow, I was attracted by their antiques and pictures exhibitions which I overlooked...

My husband and I enjoyed our time tremendously. We stayed in 2 different rooms, both with attached bathroom. The seseragi-kan room had a lovely open air bath being near the waterfall. However the heating in the room was not as effective as the Yasugari-kan room. The 2 onsens, an outdoor one with a view of the waterfall and an indoor...

Location: This lovely onsen hatago located at the mid-hill outside tokyo city. We drove two hours from Karuizawa train station, and there are signages guiding you there when you almost arrive there, GPS is a must if you want to drive to the hatago. Buildings: We firstly impressed by the traditional building and entrance, when you walk into the area,...

Really fun onsen with many buildings full of all kinds of antiques- chests of drawers, art, dyed fabrics, toys, coins, guns and more. They have a wedding package also. Three baths - although the herb bath smelled bad to us. Food was good but not amazing.

In the total site of 7 thousand 'tubo' (apprximately 6 acres), there are seven or eight old Japanese houses which are completely renovated for the hotel in 1999, they said. Yes it is. Arriving at the main gate which are really gorgeous, stepping down stairs, passing through nice soba-restaurant, and there a museum house for old japanese closets. This collection...

This is a relatively new place compared to many of the ryokans in Japan which have been around for decades if not centuries. I'm most impressed with the fine collection of antiques and exhibitions, large compound to explore, beautifully crafted surrounding, and the outdoor Onsen. Service is impeccable and food are delicious. Definitely worth every cents. It's not easy to...

This is without a doubt the best Ryokan Onsen ( hotspring ) to which I have ever been . It has the whole package. Ambiance - Historical Japan. Rustic thatch roof farm houses arranged like a small village and you can freely explore each one. Feel your stress start to dissipate as you wander through each house savoring the historical...
