Detailed Reviews
We dined here in the afternoon yesterday.
There were tables outside and inside but due to the British wet summer we chose inside.
The waitress was really friendly and helpful.
Their menu is accessed via scanning a barcode on your iPhone / Android and it takes you to their website.
Saves cleaning menus down between customers and far more hygienic.
One way system in and out of restaurant to assist with social distancing.
The food was fairly expensive for what is good pub food, but it was good and fresh.
This is part of a chain of restaurants so if you’re looking for a quaint Devon restaurant you’ll be disappointed.
Pie and lasagna were good and fresh.
Decent portion size meant we didn’t try the desserts as it was a late lunch.
If you’re hungry and driving past this should tick the boxes.

2 night stay over the August bank holiday at Sawmills with a dog in tow, no problems or any hassle from the hosts, they were always very friendly and although we had no specific requests, I always had the feeling that they would do their best to accomodate. Room #2 was pleasant and big enough for the 2 of us and a dog bed, bathroom is small(ish) but everything you need (decent shower, sink, toilet) and probably most important it was very clean. Hard flooring throughout the room which all dog owners will know, is not the best for dogs or for noise levels, however it never bothered us and nobody else mentioned anything. There is a 2nd level access point which can be used to come and go if the dog needs to go to the toilet late at night or early morning so you don't have to traipse through the pub constantly. Breakfast is excellent, and in fact all food we had there was to a good standard which you can tell by how busy the pub is for evening dinners. The local camp sites always have a willing customer base for dinner so you may have to book in advance to get a decent time slot.
One downside is that we have a fully electric car and there are no electric car chargers at this location, and indeed they are few and far between in this part of the world so you may have to plan ahead if you are out and about sightseeing.
This location has easy access to the great beaches at Woolacombe, Saunton, and Croyde and also lots of picturesque villages and dramatic cliff scenery.
I would recommend the Sawmills for any length of stay if you are visiting this part of the world.

We called so many places to find a restaurant open on NY’s day evening and almost gave up hope but we’re so glad we found Sawmills.
The staff were friendly and welcoming (despite having to work on NYD). The fish and chips were excellent, just what I needed and my partner and I both ordered and both were beautifully cooked and served. Our friends ordered soup and loaded nacho’s and were also very happy with both. Thanks Sawmills for saving us on a wet, miserable New Year’s Day evening, we’ll be back I’m sure!

We visited for lunch and drinks we shared the nacho plate and halloumi fries, both delicious so nice that we went back for dinner that same evening as we were staying at the camp site opposite. We had the burrito bowl and the beef burger both meals very delicious and would happily recommend eating here. Staff at lunch (Frankie) was very friendly she made us giggle and was very attentive and put us at ease she was a true delight.

We were staying at mill park campsite and it was our last night . We decided to come here as it is very close and easy to get to. It was amazing service and they straight away took our drinks order. Then we ordered food and it came in about 10 mins! So good saying there is 4 of us! Food was delicious would definitely recommend! The only thing is is that it’s not open on mondays and opens at 4pm!

Food was ok, chips were poor thou, bit cardboard like.
Missus cut her hand on the new chairs that had a piece of metal sticking out of it. Never even saw a manager about this incident. Which we found very strange.
Nobody told us we had to go up the bar to order food. So the 30mins sat waiting was pointless.
It also seemed some of the staff were more interested in chatting to a large group of friends at a birthday celebration.
Won't be returning here unless we had to.

We called here for our lunch today and wasn't that impressed. The food was good pub food but not restaurant quality but the surroundings were very poor. When we approached the entrance I wasn't sure it was open and didn't even change my mind once in. The place is very dark with empty beer bottles on the sides as displays, sticky tables and an old carpet lifting up in various places. I wouldn't mind if the prices reflected this but the menu was priced very expensive. This is a real shame as the pub is a good size, in a good location but needs a good 100k spending on it to bring it back up to scratch.

Beautiful location but that's where it ends, inside is dreary and unloved, service is non existent, it smells awful, and the food was disgusting. Actually inedible and looked like someone else had had a go first! Poor old place needs some TLC.

Totally tasteless, whole meal not worth bothering with. Fresh fish caught local? Somehow I don't think so.
Not once were we asked how the meal was, they never even questioned the food left on the plates when we paid the bill
Considering the prices they charge I bet they couldn't care less.
There are plenty of other places to choose or have a sandwich
Avoid

I phoned to book a table for a carvery on Sunday. I was told that they don't do carvery since they have reopened but only do a plate roast. They automatically went to book me in and I had to interrupt them to say that if they didn't do a carvery I would rather go somewhere else.
the response was "Ok...whatever!"
