Fantastic 1 night stay with Kiwi Experience! Stayed in a 6 bunk room, comfiest bed I've stayed in for 6 weeks! Room was very clean with plenty of plug sockets, a long mirror and a mini fridge. Showers were hot and clean, toilets clean for the most part (unisex toilets and guys are messy when they're drunk!) and general area...

This is an excellent place to stay when in the North Island. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the accommodation is in an exceptional location, right on the river. Would 100% visit here again.

We were very surprised with our stay here as part of the Kiwi Experience. For a true experience of seclusion, you can't find a hostel better than River Valley Lodge. It sits alone, right in the middle of this beautiful valley. There's a pulley across the river where you can pull yourself across and walk up the hills surrounding the...

Everything here was just wonderful, easy check in and out, all the staff was very personable, and accommodating. The food was such a surprise, they gave you great portions, and it was so good. We went rafting two days, both guides were such fun to spend the day with, and when we did the adventure white water, Daniel made us...

The River Valley Lodge is AMAZING! From the moment you walk in the door everyone is so friendly and the atmosphere is comfy and welcoming. There's a short hike to a rapid from the property and outdoor games--such as volleyball and a huge life-size chess set. The food is phenomenal and the bar is affordable, especially during happy hour. I...

We stayed here as part of the Kiwi Experience, and it was a beautiful lodge, with a roaring log fire and lots of great games (giant jenga, table tennies etc) and we paid extra for the Roast Dinner available on arrival which was incredible, though the staff seemed to have a real issue with us needing more chairs (this wasn't...

Kia ora Maisie, Thank you for taking the time to review River Valley Lodge . I am glad that you had an enjoyable stay with us. Our roast dinners are based on a traditional lodge-style shared dinner, where all of the food is served to the middle of the tables and shared amongst the paying guests. Part of the 'charm'...

Visited River Valley Lodge in Feb, when we first arrived we were briefed by a member of staff, it felt a bit like school camp as we were told what we had to do while we there and weren't really given much choice and i felt a bit insulted, later we attended the roast dinner which was fantastic, incredible spread,...

Kia ora Jack, Thank you for taking the time to write your review. I am quite concerned with the experience you have had, as it is quite out of sorts with the usual enjoyable rafting experience our customers encounter and write about. I would really appreciate the opportunity to talk to you about your review further. You can reach me...

We stayed in a double lodge, which we found very very small. Upon arrival the staff addressed the group for a good 15 minutes and it was quite confusing as various members of staff spoke over each other with contrasting information which seemed a little odd. The bathrooms by the lodge were lovely and very clean, the shower blocks weren't...

Kia ora Gem, Thank you for taking the time to review River Valley Lodge. Kia ora, Thank you for taking the time to review our lodge. Sorry to hear that you had this experience in our customer kitchen. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The basis of the River Valley Experience is what happens outside the Lodge. River Valley started as a rafting company on a family farm, in the back blocks of Taihape. With one of the world's top half day Grade 5 rafting trips literally on the doorstep, it was a natural progression. A horse trekking stables was added over time, and it is these two adventurous activities, rafting the beautiful Rangitikei River, and exploring the magnificent hill country which is at core of River Valley. River Valley Lodge is an Adventure Lodge. It was built as a base for rafting and horse back riding, and this has not changed. What has changed is the clientele! The Lodge caters for young backpackers after an adrenaline fueled Grade 5 rafting trip, through to veteran mature adventurers, with an accommodation mix from bunk rooms to en-suited riverside suites. The Lodge restaurant and cafe serves a selection of fresh country style food, much not only prepared on site, but also grown in the extensive vegetable gardens. If shopping and cell phone reception are critical to your daily existence, then River Valley is certainly not the place for you. ... more   less
