Detailed Reviews
We stayed for a night in this lodge in a deluxe room. I got to be honest that we don't have any expectation for this lodge since we only came for the one and only Bromo view that other hotels cannot offer. Nevertheless, we did know the prior room conditions, as we have stayed at this lodge for about 3 or 4 times before. We already knew that the room was not worth the price we needed to pay, but the view is.
It astonished me that the deluxe room we ordered is a new room. Although it is not fancy and all, it is sure much much cleaner than the older room. I couldn't emphasize how much cleaner it is than it used to be. As the lodge is considered a family-run lodge, there aren't many staffs, however they are very friendly and accomodating. The Buffet Breakfast was very decent and the scenery is still stunning as usual.
On a final note, although the price is still considered expensive, I saw a huge improvement from the management in terms of rooms and service as compared to the last time I stayed here.

Its a no-frill budget hotel right at the end of Mountain with beautiful view of Bromo. Room we stayed in was not good in terms of cleanliness but was decently spacious.
This is guess one of the best option in this location
Food was cold and not very good.

While the location of the hotel is great, the rooms are basic. Although it gets quite cold at night, there is no heating. I had to double up the quilt on my bed to keep warm. The shower managed to arrive at lukewarm and when I arrived there was no toilet paper. I did appreciate the porch to the east and the drying rack it held. The room was basic ... did the job, but the management would do well to add heat and more reliable hot water.
Because it is closest to the view point for Bromo, they stay full. It would be good if they put more energy into helping guests be more comfortable.

This hotel provided the best to the Mount Bromo maybe due to the close distance. It is a very old hotel however the condition is consider average in the mountain as there are not many big hotel up there. The hotel room is huge as we booked a double queen bed room. There is no fan inside the room but it is cold enough in the room. The only complain is the water heater that not functioning well and the water coming out is weak. Not many facility available and we also don't have time to enjoy for just a night stay. There is a restaurant serve quite nice food. The hotel rate did include the breakfast and dinner.

The hotel has a spectacular view of the caldera, sea of sand and Mt Bromo.
The breakfast was also quite varied and tasty. We were able to have nice coffee there and go outside and appreciate the view.
The rooms were pretty basic but clean. No shower curtain in the bathroom which resulted in water going all over the place.
Other than that, the basic rooms were overshadowed by the beautiful view and great location.

Stay was good, staff was also good. You need to have international adaptor for this room. Corners of room was not clean. They had spider webs over there. Its close to mount bromo. Evening was charming over here. Breakfast was okay too. Can stay for 2 days.
They have gas geysers.

I know reviews are diverse but we just stayed here and i will try to give an honest opinion. The view from the lodge cannot be beaten, that is first and foremost what you need to know! The rooms are quite okay and so is the food. Is is spectacular? No but it is really decent quality! If the sun comes up you witness an awesome view and the rest really does not matter. Personnel is very friendly and we had a really nice stay.

Nice accommodation on the A-spot near Bromo. Spacious room with wonderful view. Ate good food in the restaurant; dinner as well as breakfast after the sunrise tour. Only the shower is dusty and not so nice but okay for a quick shower. Village is nice too, you can drink a beer and have something to eat.

This place offer a bird eye view of Mount Bromo, Mount Batok and Mount Semeya. You can catch the sunrise & sunset here. It also offer the nearest route by car or by horse to & from a day tour of Bromo.
As usual, these mountain hotel here does not upkeep their rooms, facilities and cleanliness. Treat it as a night stay over.
The restaurant food is good for both Asian and Western tourist.

Having read all these reviews it seems there are probably some rooms that are better than others. Ours was adequate, a bit dowdy and unappealing but clean enough and everything worked. The restaurant food at dinner was quite nice and breakfast was as described in other reviews - it did not make us sick, that's for sure. WIFI (free) was available in the restaurant and it worked reasonably well. We found the staff very helpful - there were some very good English speakers there (but see some reservations mentioned later).
We booked the hotel via email - it was confusing as the hotel seems to be booked via an adventure tour company - and they insisted in payment upfront by payPal to secure the booking. We weren't able to activate our PayPal account and they were then very reasonable in still holding a room for us on our promise to really arrive. There was also some confusion prior to arriving - we asked about a "guide" really meaning a tour, I suppose, and they responded saying they'd run out of English speaking guides - this left us almost booking one of the door hang abouts because we arrived late and wanted to get a jeep and so forth in place for the next morning. Upon asking inside however, there were plenty of jeeps and no need for a guide except for specialist hiking and so forth. The jeep and horse ride up the mountain for early morning viewing all went very well - we had two children with us and they were very careful with my three year old son on his own horse, a man either side to ensure he didn't fall. We forgot our own torches - DONT FORGET! the guides hired theirs to us at a steep, but not so horrible price. One of the great advantages of Lava View lodge is actually after your've seen the volcano. It is perched right on the edge of the crater and the two hours we spent writing in diaries on the crater's edge at the hotel were very relaxed and special - well worth it just for that alone.
My final comments concerns the tour out that we purchased through the Lava View Lodge to Ijen Crater. I think a better job could have been done explaining what was involved, especially as we were travelling with young children. Despite leaving at 9.30am from our hotel, with delays, waiting about, a long lunch stop (nice food) and a horrendous drive on some of the worst road a minibus has ever negotiated, we did not arrive until 7pm that night - a very long day for small kids. The hotel we stayed in then was a bit of a shambles. About 100 guests arrived all at once, but someone had forgotten that beer drinkers like their beer cold... Plus there was no ice anywhere on the premises. The beds came with a bottom sheet and a blanket - no top sheet. There is no way blankets are washed between guests and we were not backpacking with sleep sheets etc - it was a tad grim. I also took photos of the mouldy bathroom to remind me that my days of roughing it are not entirely over. The set breakfast was probably the worst breakfast I've ever had in my entire life. A hard boiled egg. No salt and pepper available. No soy sauce available. Could not get it to go down. And a sandwich with chocolate sprinkles that even my kids would not eat. And then when we arrive at Ijen, for the first time we are told we have a three kilometre walk straight up hill. Glad we weren't told before, to be honest, because we eventually made it, kids and all and it was amazing, but people need to be aware of that - it was pretty hard work and many would not cope (should have done better research I know!) Anyway, enough blabbing from me! Hope this helps someone.

hai tessa, the tranfer in and out from and to airport during our time cost as 500 Usd and from lava view to the crater cost us 500 usd as well for round trip or half day trip with jeep, l
ittle suggestion you may ask breakfast on the box one day before the trip, they will prepare for you at the reception before trip start.
We called them and then they provided a reservation confirmation via email. We also arranged transport to and from Surabaya with them.
Try to reserve it wtih local travel agency (I think better Malang or Surabaya) via Internet. We did so.
hi there,
nope. but there are one or two small flying beetles around.
not a big issue because flying cockroaches are more scary.
worthy exchange for the great view.
Lava View has 3 cottages that has very nice view: View of Metigen for sunset and sun rise and View of Penanjakkan 2 where u can see the sun rise. the President of Indonesia (SBY) stayed at the cottage which has Metgen View. Other tha cottages the lodge only offer a decent stay with The Lava View within walking distance. to me it's the best choice in Mount Bromo area. Also the food is not extravagant but it has good taste, it is like Indonesian home food.
