This hotel is in the building of the former Russian embassy. It is old fashionable, a little kitsch, but still comfortable. The rooms are spacious, clean, AC, with a nice bathroom (soap and towels included; condoms available, but it costs 10 yuans). The bed is comfortable, allowing a nice resting night! The staff doesn´t speak English. You must be patient...

I'd been returned on June this year, She was used to be one of the beautiful hotel on the Ancient Silk Road, but now too old and no longer qualified for foreign guest. The courtyard were once nicely designed 10 years ago, due to rebuilt and function change, the design were ruined. The No.2 building were used to designed for...

The interior of the building is impressive. The rooms are average size, with ornate walls and ceilings. The carpets were dirty. Good Wifi connection in the rooms. Small outdated bathrooms. No breakfast on premises, but John's restaurant next door provides breakfast, lunch & dinners but don't expect good service. The hotel staff did not speak English, and allowed smoking in...

If you want to avoid budget hotel blandness, this is the place. Use one entrance and you pass through then sual electronic scanner that is ubiquitous in Xinjiang. Use the other and walk in unchallenged, it's that sort of place. Formerly the Russian Consulate , the corridors and rooms are (over)decorated in local style, all pastel coloured panels, Moorish arches...

The good: awesome decor and historical building. Great location. John's cafe next door a lovely oasis. The bad: I'm not sure they know what a vacuum cleaner is or a duster. Just don't look behind any furniture! Toilet paper is scant so have to keep asking for more. Electrical sockets don't all work. Breakfast insufficient. Careful with your laundry. We...

Rather impersonal atmosphere, and indifferent staff. But the location is quiet and convenient, and very reasonable cost, On the site of the original Russian consulate, built in 1890. Rooms and standards vary, so check them out first, Rooms in the oldest wing are decorated in Uyghur style. I was intrigued by the dozen or more lavatories , which were neatly...

This is an interesting hotel. We are attracted by its historical background, Russian Consulate in Uyghur style. However, according to modern day's standard, this hotel is a bit old and tired. When sitting in the lobby, many people will approach you asking you if you need someone to take you around. When walking to the room, the bus boy will...

I've spent a total of three nights in this hotel as part of a tour I booked with Old Road Tours. The best thing about this hotel is the location, it's in the city centre and you can walk pretty much everywhere. It's a cheap hotel so don't expect too much - I stayed in the building at the back...

We travelled end May and beginning June 2014 through the Xinjiang region. If you take the heightened security measures for granted and respect the authorities (as we did), you can have a very interesting journey in this region (Urumqi, Khotan, Yarkand and Kashgar. Although it is possible to travel without knowledge of Uyghur or some basic Chinese, we would not...
