The stay at the Oon Lee Bungalow resort was magical for us. We are so grateful for the familiar and friendly welcome by Valerie, Oon, Joey and Alec, and we hope to be returning someday to this magical place! We stayed for two nights. Valerie helped us organize our travel to Koh Jum, as it's quite a secluded island, especially during the rain season. We came to the island with a speed boat from Koh Phi Phi; the most convenient, but also expensive, option. Valerie and her family are French-Thai, speak very good English and know the area and Thailand in general very well, as they're truly natives. They will gladly help you and share their knowledge and advice! As we arrived, we were picked up and welcomed by Joey, son of Oon and Valerie and our unofficial island guide. We're very glad that he showed us the island so thoroughly, as he truly cared about us as friends and guests, and it's very clear how much he and his family love this island. Driven by a 4x4 pickup truck, we arrived at the hotel, which is truly a gem in the middle of the jungle. The bungalows were very clean, with as many amenities as one could hope for in the middle of the jungle - clean sheets and pillows, beautifully decorated rooms, ventilators and warm showers (no A/C, but the cold breeze at night and the fans are more than enough!) One of the main attractions of the resort is the absolutely stellar cuisine. Advised by Valerie, we ate the very best Thai food we had so far in the entire country: Pad Thai, curries, stir fried, soups... And of course a selection of French food, such as flambéed Crepes. Absolutely incredible food - Even if you're not staying at the resort, we highly recommend eating there! Of course, not to be forgotten are Joey's delicious cocktails - highly recommend his Mai Thai! We liked the food so much we even took a cooking course from the original cook Tiew, who is now teaching Thai cooking full-time. We also recommend anyone to take that course and learn how to make traditional and tasty Thai dishes. The island itself is magical - almost untouched, with very, very few tourists. Very quiet, calm and authentic - we spent our days cycling and swimming at empty beaches, enjoying local food and playing football with the locals. Just don't forget to bring abundant mosquito spray! We would again like to thank the entire family for a lovely stay and would warmly recommend anyone to visit Koh Jum and the Oon Lee Bungalow resort - we will hopefully be back someday soon.

Stayed at Oon Lee Bungalows for 3 night. The resort itself was lovely, set up on the hill with the bungalows in the front with sea views and the back ones with garden views. They have a resturant which serves both French and Thai foods. As an FYI they do take credit cards. To get to the resort the ferry comes in and is met by long boats which you than transfer with your luggage to the boats (on the water) and are taken to the resort. For people who are thinking of staying you must have a moderate level of fitness, as you have to climb to and from the boat, you have to climb up to the resturant first to check in and than depending on where you are staying either back down or up to get to your bungalows. The part that was frustrating for us and was never really expressed in reviews was how far away it is from everything. If you are there just to stay at the resort and not explore it's lovely, but to really explore the area you need to rent a motorbike, however the road from the resort is a dirt road with pot holes and very uneven surfaces so you have to be able to ride with a certain amount of comfort. Please consider the rainy season and night time as well. To reach the first bit of paved roads you could google map the stone bar which is situated next to the paved part. Renting motorbikes was an event, please be very careful as they do not offer insurance and may charge you for damage that you didn't even do which happened to us.

This trip was booked by my friend, I have no choice to stay somewhere else due to fully booked. Luckily, I got a room here and I have been warned upon making the reservation that the room is very small but it is better than no room to stay. Upon arrival, I walked to the resort from the beach and need to get to the top of the resort with lot of high steps to the reception... I knew at that time I need more excercise! This resort is not recommend for elderly person or disability. Room: since I booked their last room with less price (about 1,xxx THB per night, quiet cheap for staying during new year) then there is no TV, no air-cond, no hot water...but I can survive, no need them at all if you stay the whole day outside the room. Don't ask for the room key, you will not get it. No room key here. Beach: rocky beach in front of resort but no worry, just few walk to get the beach. Restaurant: good taste, nice presentation, big portion! My favorited breakfast is Healthy set (muesli, yoghurt and fruit salad), all breakfast set will come with orange juice and coffee or chocolate (my hubby does not recommend for coffee, he said another resort on the beach is much better). Host: I met all of their family, they are very friendly and made I feel like stay at my friend's home. Oon with nature of Southern Thai guy, loud speak with smile. Lee has her warm welcome with Thai speaking, lovely touch. Alec and Joey, their boys who run this small resort. Thank Joey for free beer on our first met as new year gift! Be careful: dog on the beach, some are not friendly, so just walk pass even they bark on you. Dogs in the resort are friendly, I found 3 dogs here but not sure how many they have. Another thing to aware is monkey, please keep the door closed if you left the room. You never knew when they will come. If anyone plan to visit Koh Jum, highly recommend this place. It is better than my expectation! 3 night is not enough.

A lot of reviews about the hike up to reception and the wildlife in the rooms in the evening, ignore them! The walk up to reception is made easy by the gentleman who carries your bags all the way up for you. The only other time we went up to the top was for food, which was amazing so the worked up appetite was welcome. This is the nicest island bungalows we have stayed in yet. Valerie and Oon are lovely people to deal with, they remember you by name and are honestly the most helpful people ever. The beach is rocky however if you head out directly infront of the bungalows when the tide is in you can easily swim out past the rocks to cool down in the afternoon heat. The pop up bar by the beach is perfect for a few cheap cocktails whilst watching the sunset before heading upstairs for dinner. We strongly reccommend this for staying if you're a couple travelling the island and don't fancy one of the beaches that are to lively. This is the perfect balance!

We only stayed 2 nights with Valerie, Oon and their team but we wished we were staying longer. The bungalows were lovely- yes you have a few bugs, and ants however their is a net over the bed which is perfectly fine. We stayed in island accommodation in Cambodia paying much more and the standards were much lower!! The shower is hot..result! Some of our mainland showers haven’t been. The breakfast was delicious so definitely add it to your booking! The food in the evening was also lovely and the service and atmosphere was very nice. Valerie and Oon clearly take great pride and this is passed on to their team and the sons who we met. There is a beach bar at the bottom that gives you a great chill zone 5pm onwards and a beautiful sunset! 100baht cocktails also :) The only thing to note is if you have mobility issues there is a lot of stairs up to the top, I myself have hyper mobile joints and just needed to take it a little slower! - the guys are more than helpful with taking your heavy bags!! There are lots of activities for you to do if you wish, we just wanted a full chill out few days. People have noted that the beach in front is rocky, yes it is but if you walk a few metres to the left you hit beach! Thank you to the whole team, we really enjoyed our stay on the island and will be recommending it to anyone who is considering travelling Thailand.

It didn't start well from the beginning. Because we came there in low season the ferries did not work. I emailed the owners about options how to get there, got some, but they did not told me that they can organise free pick up from pier so we had to pay for that. Anyway once we got there we found out it is not a beach front hotel as they advertise. The view is nice, you will see the ocean but forget the beach - a lot of steps. The road to the hotel is extremly bad. If it rains it is very hard to collapse on the scooter - i did it twice. We were not able to rent scooters from the hotel, had to do it in some other place. Because I collapsed 2 times they charged me 1100 BHT on return, and than additional 400BHT when I was checking out from the hotel(weird hat the owner just decided to add up 400 BHT but I just wanted to leave..) Food at the restaurant is acceptable, ok but nothing great. Much better options on this island. Make sure to take watershoes - a lot of rocks. Rooms - nice, but prepare your self for meeting with cockroaches and other bugs. It is how it is. If you're lucky you will find a monkey on your porch once - it was a highlight of the visit. Be aware that they add 4% commision on every card payment - they do not write it on booking or other websites.

Firstly, if you don’t like geckos 🦎, snakes 🐍 cockroaches and spiders 🕷 ... this place is not for you. There are holes in the rooms so these creepy crawlers WILL be in your bedroom 🛌. No air con in rooms, just a fan. (We were absolutely fine with the fan, it was hot but your in Thailand so it’s to be expected!) The rooms were very clean with great maid service. There are monkeys 🐒 on the island so don’t leave your items laying around, they will get taken 😂There were a lot of stairs from the bar&beach to the bungalows and diner. (I was quite ill on the island because of the heat and I was bitten by mosquitoes and sandflies which resulted in awful itching on my legs). This is no fault of oon lee bungalows, I just want to give you an idea of how remote this place is. The restaurant is quite expensive, but the food is very nice. You can get cheaper food around the island though🌴. We hired mopeds 🏍 and drove around the island, would highly recommend coconut beach, lots of large starfish to see. We also did the boat trip and saw 4 different islands. We got to swim in the bluest water I’ve ever seen. The fish and coral was just breathtaking. Valerie and oon were incredible hosts, we couldn’t have asked for more. All the staff are so friendly, we would go back in a heartbeat if we could! Thank you for making our experience in Thailand so incredibly special. We hope to see you again soon! ❤️

We stayed at Oonlee for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon (we booked the Grand Seeaview Bungalow... which didn't have a Seaview). Our transfer dropped us at the top of a hill and we had to walk the last section with all our luggage which was not ideal. The resort itself was very pretty, and quite unique in that it is built up a hillside from a very rocky beach. Our room was near the restaurant and didn't feel very private. To go down to the bar or the beach you have to battle almost 100 steps. We didn't mind this so much but not great if you're unfit or suffering with any disabilities. Valerie and the staff were very pleasant and helpful, though we didn't spend much time at the resort. Unfortunately there is no swimming pool which is a must in that heat & no aircon in the rooms making it virtually impossible to sleep. The food was tasty, if a little overpriced. We therefore spent most of our time eating & swimming at one of the other resorts along the beach. We rented 2 scooters from the resort to explore the island which was nice, but a bit of a surprise that we had to walk a few kilometres into town to collect them. For the same price there are more appealing options on the island.

Probably the most relaxing place I know. The food is great (Thai style, but you can get a sandwich, too), beside the normal menu they offer a special of the day. The restaurant is up the hill and offers a nice view whilst enjoying your meal. The open bungalows are clean, having a terrace and some of them offer seaview. In the night you can hear the animals of the jungle around you. The resort itself is built into the hill and is beautifully arranged with a lot of plants and flowers, huge butterflies are flying around you. Be aware that this is not a standardized hotel resort, you are in the nature and nature is around you. Stairs are steep, sometimes you see monkeys and the street is a bit crazy. If you don't like that you'd go to a standard franchise hotel. The team is friendly and open minded. Valerie takes care of arrival/departure arrangements and tour booking. The bar at the sea is great for a sundowner (or two). The beach in front of the resort is covered with rocks, you have to walk 150m to get easy access to the sea. Long story made short, if you like a silent place to relax in the middle of the nature with good food, here you are.

The hospitality of Valerie and Mr Lee is amazing, the bungalows are beatiful, clean and very comfortable, though it is a bit tricky to get there (4x4 Taxi). The food is superb, not thai as usual, bit pricy, but some of the best i had durin my holidays!! Guess best mamy be the place in Koh kum to stay.
