We have created Oonlee Bungalows on the island of Koh Jum to be more than just another vacation resort amidst the others. It's a family affair. Simple, yet luxurious, beautiful and exotic, charming wooden bungalows stand on stilts, scattered around a shaded, tropical garden. Master craftsman, Oon carefully managed the construction of the bungalows and Lee the design details which proved to be a enjoyable and successful division of labor. The price of the bungalows range from 800 Thai Baht to 3000 Thai Baht at high season.

I was here with a group of friends at the end of January. Valerie and her husband were incredible hosts and were very accommodating to all our demands, nothing was too much to ask. Thanks again for putting up with us Valerie! The bungalows at Oon Lee are located in tropical gardens and located far apart from each other - it’s a very peaceful place to spend some time, with views over the Andaman ocean and to Phi-Phi on the horizon. The bungalows are spotlessly clean, with very comfortable beds and fresh linen. All the bungalows we were staying in were fan only, but this should not concern any future visitors, the bungalows were pleasantly cool at night and even with a big comforter on the bed nobody had any complaints or missed having aircon. The interior of the bungalows have loads of attention to detail, with nice furniture and decorations – it’s clear a lot of time has been spent on the bungalows, they really are a “home from home”. The food we ate was superb, this was my second trip to Oon Lee and it was just as good as the first time I visited many years ago. It is possible to get around the island and visit the small village on the island, or visit other beaches but our stay was so good we didn’t really want to go anywhere else. Highly recommended and I will definitely be returning!

We absolutely loved our stay at Oon Lee. Valerie and her staff is so welcoming and caring, making sure you have a great stay. Book a bungalow with sea view and you might not ever want to leave! We rented a scooter to easily access the rest of Koh Jum, an island that will make you totally relaxed. Can't wait to visit again!

Though the location is a tad hard to get to; you need to walk around 2km through the beach and on a dirt and hilly road to reach the main road or hire a taxi to come get you, what you will get in return is a truly secluded space and beach of your own. The bungalows are located on the hill side so you will enjoy Andaman sea scene with Phi Phi islands as background. Overall facilities are nice and the staff are super friendly. Would definitely recommend this place!

We loved our stay with Oonlee although it was too short. Valerie and her lovely family were very helpful with information prior to our stay and they could not do enough for us during our stay to make us comfortable and happy. They were also very helpful booking our onward journey for us and helping us move around. They have a done a great job with the place. The restaurant is very atmospheric and the food is fantastic. The bar is very nice and perfect for sunsets and night caps serving delicious cocktails made by Joey Valerie’s son. We had a very stylish and comfortable bungalow with a hammock I could have stayed in for hours watching the sea. Overall Jum is a unique, authentic and quieter island. There are some really good spots to discover on the island and you get to interact more with the locals which you don’t really get some much on the busier islands. Thanks you Valerie and Oon for being such top hosts. Jay & Dimitri x

Valerie and Oon are so friendly and helpful, going out of their way to make us feel welcome. They recommend some great things to do around the island for a perfect trip. Food was consistently delicious, and we had one of the most stunning ocean views I have ever seen.

Came here as a return visit. This time we were with my Mum and Dad. The Onlee complex is in a wonderful position overlooking the sea and the beach. Very peaceful, chilled out vibe. Good, reasonably priced food. I like the fact that it is a family run operation. Oon and Valerie are a husband and wife team who give the place an ambience that you simply don't get in grander, more expensive resorts. This place is great.

Just writing a thank you to the kind staff who arranged us a taxi back to our resort after we stranded ourselves, unable to walk back to our beach at might with a rising tide! He gave us excellent advice and as we didn't have enough cash for the taxi, the manager of the restaurant changed our £s into baht for us while we drank white wine and ate delicious tempura shrimp. He really turned a scary / bad situation into a lovely evening, genuinely fantastic hospitality. Next time we come to Ko Jum we will be sure to stay.

We found out about Oonlee through an article in The Guardian newspaper in which it was highly recommended. I was surprised in doing this review to come across some negative comments and can categorically say that this was not our experience. The owners Oon and Valerie are immensely proud of the paradise they have created in Koh Jum and we felt very much that we had been invited into their home. Oon is a chef who had a most cherished culinary education having been taught to cook from a young age by his mother. His dishes are authentic Thai created with passion and enthusiasm and this attitude is what prevails in the way that he looks after his guests. He prepared a wonderful fish menu for us caught fresh from the sea that day which was outstanding. Valerie has an eye for the details and is the perfect hostess - always checking to make sure that everything is just so. Oonlee is quite clearly close to her heart and she puts high energy into making guests feel welcome. My wife happened to be asking Oon how to make a papaya salad and he mentioned an implement used for the slicing. She asked where to get one from and the following day one was brought over to our table which he had purchased for us - how nice! We spent 3 nights there and the only reason it was not longer was that they were fully booked. Onlee Bungalows and its restaurant are the great antidote to a stressed life and cannot be too strongly recommended.

This place is extraordinary. The quiet resort is located at the end of a beach, but that gives you a lost paradise/jungle feeling. The beautiful garden setup is decorated with love. Our room was clean, spacious and had a balcony with seaview and a hammock to enjoy it. The open-space restaurant was very nice and Valerie and her team offered daily specials. The food has a high quality, slightly higher prices are therfore justified. Some of the table even provide seaview. There is also a bar at the beach. We loved enjoying the sunset down there, nipping on a cocktail. If you feel like, you can walk down the beach and visit other bars. The lonesome beach is stony, so you have to walk 100m to get better/sandy access. Valerie also helped us with booking tours (with their own longtails) and airport pickups and she was always very friendly and helpful. In the end you can feel that the resort is run by family and not by franchise company. It was not our first stay and it not going to be out last one.

We chose Koh Jum for an 'unspoiled island' experience, friends had recommended Oon Lee. A long-tail boat met us from the Krabi-Ko / Lanta ferry and took us to the property for a 4 days stay. A small estate of individual bungalows rises from the private beach, built into a steep hillside with spectacular and unencumbered views over the Andaman Sea. Surrounded by uncleared jungle, the only other access is via a forest bike track, which links to the island road system after a kilometer or so. Owners Valerie and Oon, and their capable team seemed able to make almost anything happen whether you want to stay put, or travel about/around the island. The main restaurant operates all hours (with a break of service 3-6pm). The all-day menu will appeal to Isaan/Thai/French fusion palates: we enjoyed the piquancy of Laab salads, Thai curries, along with perfectly prepared French variations. Bar food includes sandwiches and delicious tempura plates. There is a fresh, specials menu available at dinner each day. Food is always freshly prepared, and they generously accede to requests for variation/ substitution without fuss. Rarely for Thailand, drinkable vin de table by the carafe (red/white and rosé). The bungalows are each private, set in a wild garden with verandahs. Fans seemed adequate to balmy December weather. All the amenities and the beautiful, calm setting aside, the great charm of this resort is the unhesitating and personal concern of the staff to make every visitor comfortable throughout their stay. Genuinely / effortlessly enjoyable.
